Taking over for rookie
''We had the starting offense out there for three full quarters and I put Sanchez in, and unfortunately, the best play he makes probably all of preseason, he ends up getting hurt on it,'' said head coach Rex Ryan. ''We'll see the severity of the injury later, but it was a tremendous play by him. But that's football. You compete and you go out there and do your best, and obviously it's very unfortunate that he was injured.''
Sanchez, who owns a career mark of 33-29 as a regular season starter in addition to four playoff wins, has missed only one contest in his career. He completed 67% of his passes this preseason, hitting on 28 of 42 for 366 yards with 2 TD and 2 INT.
“He’s done as much and more than I’ve asked him to do,” said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg last week of Sanchez. “He’s done a nice job now. He’s had an excellent training camp. He’s played well, certainly in segments, during the preseason, so he’s had a good camp. You get better every day.”
Jets head coach Rex Ryan will have a Monday news conference at 2:15 p.m. here at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center and that will be broadcast live on NYJets.com and the Jets App.
