Sanchez: ‘All I Want is to Win Here’

Posted Nov 26, 2013

After undergoing shoulder surgery in early October, Mark Sanchez has kept a low profile.  But Sanchez delivered an update on his recovery today before he volunteered his time at the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, NJ.

“It’s going really well.  I’m at eight weeks today and moving at an incredible rate,” he told me.  “I’m feeling great. They’re almost holding me back.  They just want to be sure everything is healed in there and they’ll start pushing it.  But I’m excited and everything I’ve heard from the doctors and the therapists is I’ll be back better than ever.  It’s encouraging news and I’m excited about it.”

Sanchez, who was injured in a Week 3 preseason contest against the Giants, said that typically the timetable for a full recovery is 4-6 months.  He is still trying to contribute off the field, helping offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg with projects.  Sanchez thought he had his best training camp before the injury and was excited to work in Mornhinweg’s West Coast attack.

“That’s one of the toughest things to deal with.  Ya, you miss the players, you miss the game, but when a coordinator like that comes along — it’s just killing me that I’m not healthy,” he said.  “He was someone that really excited me, someone that helped me learn a lot this offseason and I just feel bad I can’t play for him.  Hopefully I’ll be back next year and we’ll pick up where we left off and keep rolling.”

While numerous media outlets have speculated about the future of Sanchez with the Green & White, the 27-year-old made it clear today that he doesn’t want to leave.

“This is everything I’ve ever dreamed of.  We’ve been so close to a Super Bowl here we could almost taste it,” he told me.  “That’s all I want is to win here, to be a part of this organization.  It’s been a dream come true.  I don’t want to go anywhere.  Hopefully things work out.”
