NFL Pundits Weigh-In on Green & White's Chances in 2014

If you are pumped for the season to begin and you are an optimistic Jets fan, you might just want to skip the various NFL Preseason Power Rankings.

Most pundits, who are assigned the impossible job of ranking all 32 teams and making postseason predictions, think the Green & White can start planning January vacations because they will miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive winter.

But as Rex Ryan says, the Jets get to prove it on the field. This is what some are saying off of it... Season Preview
Jets No. 26
Chris Wesseling, Around the NFL Writer
"What we’ll be saying in January
: General manager John Idzik moved with all the urgency of a glacier in finding Rex Ryan's replacement." Week 1 Power Rankings
Jets No. 17
Elliot Harrison, NFL Media Analyst
"Call this ranking a vote of confidence for Rex Ryan. With that out of the way, we have to ask, who is going to cover for him...literally? Cornerback Dee Milliner has been dinged up. Who knows where corner Dimitri Patterson -- who has since been released -- went when he was AWOL this preseason? (I'm going with Hurricane Harbor. It was one of the last weekends of summer, after all.) The safeties are so-so at best. We're used to the defense holding down the fort for the Jets, but that will be much tougher for this unit to do now." Week 1 Power Rankings

Jets No. 22

"Geno Smith looks to have taken a step forward in his sophomore season with help from free-agent addition Eric Decker. To the surprise of many, it is the defense that has given the Jets problems as injuries have beset their secondary." Week 1 Power Rankings
Jets No. 21

"After releasing Dimitri Patterson, who was signed to replace Antonio Cromartie, the only cornerbacks with at least 400 snaps last year on the roster are Dee Milliner and Kyle Wilson. (We should note that’s Rich Cimini forecasts a 9-7 campaign, but no playoff berth.)" Power Rankings
No. 21
Pete Prisco, Senior NFL Columnist
"Geno Smith has to come up big for the Jets to make a playoff push. The corners are a big concern on defense. Oh, for the days of Darrelle Revis."

Bleacher Report Power Rankings
Jets No. 18
Matt Miller, NFL Draft Lead Writer
"In case you missed it, quarterback Geno Smith looked really good running the offense in the preseason...The Jets are an interesting club and quietly a viable wild-card contender in the AFC." Season Predictions
Jets No. 2 Wild Card
