Jets-Eagles Halftime Report

Eric Allen Assess Team’s Performance Through 2 Quarters of Play

Raiders Week Begins: It is impossible not to think about the regular season tonight. With so many regulars out of action on both sides, health was paramount. In a matter of hours, the Jets can officially turn their attention to the Raiders. They trail the Eagles 13-0 here at Lincoln Financial Field.

Bellore Goes Down: Early in the second quarter, Nick Bellore hobbled off the field and had to be looked at by the medical staff on the sideline. He is a key special teams player for the Jets and their first backup at ILB. It was announced that Bellore suffered a calf injury and will not return.

Scratches: All of the Jets starters on offense and defense — minus LG Brian Winters and FB Tommy Bohanon — were not in the lineup. WR David Nelson and the following defenders — DL Kenrick Ellis, LBs Garrett McIntyre, Troy Davis & Ikemefuna Enemkpali, CB Kyle Wilson, S Calvin Pryor and OLB Antwan Barnes (PUP) also did not play.

Captain Vick: As expected, Jets head coach Rex Ryan sent out only one captain to the field for the coin toss. Mike Vick, who spent the previous four seasons with the Eagles and was the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2010, represented the Jets at midfield. He played one snap and exited to a nice ovation after a handoff to Daryl Richardson.

Up & Down Half For Lewis: Cornerback LeQuan Lewis, who signed with the Jets two weeks ago, prevented points early with an end zone interception of Matt Barkley. He followed that up with a nice tackle on punt coverage, but then was beat long by Arrelious Benn on a 43-yard Barkley scoring heave. Later in the opening stanza, Lewis swatted a Ryan Quigley punt down at the Philly seven-yard line. Then in the second quarter, Barkley again targeted Lewis and got 32 yards on a pass up the left sideline to WR Jeff Maehl.

Busy Night for Miles: The good news was Rontez Miles was in on a number of plays in the first half. But the bad news was the Eagles consistently got to the second level and the perimeter, while amassing more than 300 yards of total offense.

Saturday Looms:Prior to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, the Jets must reduce their roster to a maximum of 53 players on the active/inactive list.
