After a day off, the Jets came back and arguably had their worst workout of camp thus far. It was a ragged, laundry-filled session on a downright chilly morning here at SUNY Cortland.
“We came out of practice (and) we started pretty good,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “And then at the end of it, it kind of waned a little. Maybe not everybody — I think the defense was pretty sharp there at the end.”
The Jets are a little bit beat up. Safety Calvin Pryor, who suffered a concussion on Saturday, is progressing and worked to the side with trainers. Fellow rook Jace Amaro, who aggravated his right knee Sunday, was not able to go and Ryan said the TE has tendinitis. Veterans WR David Nelson (groin) and RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) suffered minor injuries. Cornerback Ras-I Dowling has a foot injury and got an X-ray while RB Alex Green was out with a chest injury. Rookie WR Quincy Enunwa took part in individuals and Zach Thompson, a Wake Forest product, is still working off to the side with a shoulder injury.
Player of the Day
How ‘bout some love for The Mentor? In a 7-on-7 drill, Mike Vick looked for a breaking Jeremy Kerley down the seam. But Dawan Landry diagnosed the play early and deftly stepped in front for an interception with clear sailing down the field. Then moments later in team, the defense brought the heat and Landry was in there for a would-be sack. Landry, who is working with Antonio Allen in there with the 1s, is always in good position. He is also a physical presence who has made some plays attacking the backfield in 9-on-7 work as well.
One section of team stood out in particular. Geno Smith locked in to Eric Decker on a slant and veteran Dimitri Patterson was all over it for a PD. Landry followed with a sack and then nickelback Kyle Wilson charged into the backfield for a stop behind the line on a run. Finally, WLB Demario Davis diagnosed beautifully to snuff out a WR screen to Eric Decker. In a team session later, CB Dee Miliner jumped a Geno pass intended for Stephen Hill up the sideline and almost picked it off. And the reserves got into the takeaway department as well.
Dialing Long Distance
In 7-on-7 work, Mike Vick hit Stephen Hill for a long score and Jacoby Ford (answering a previous drop) made a big-time adjustment on a heave from Smith for a huge gainer.
Folk Stays Hot
I saw K Nick Folk and P Ryan Quigley this morning and Folk said, "This weather isn’t good for us kickers." And even though it felt like autumn, the ball was still exploding off Folk’s foot.
