The New York Jets have named Eddie Santiago of Harding High School in Bridgeport, CT, this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award presented by Chase.
Through Chase’s partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school’s football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Santiago will be presented with a certificate and award ball In addition, he is invited to watch the Jets play the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 13 in Chase’s suite at MetLife Stadium.
In its 20th year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Santiago is in his 11th season of coaching the Harding Presidents and his second as head coach. The Harding alumnus was a state wrestling champion in 1999 and a two-time county champion in 1999 and 2000. The multisport athlete was also a two-time captain of the football and wrestling teams.
On Oct. 9, Harding defeated Abbott Tech–Immaculate, 40-35, to improve its record to 5-0 — the team's best start since 1996. The Presidents' next game is on the road against the Platt Tech Panthers in Milford, CT, on Saturday, Oct. 24.
