Green & White First Team to Launch Predictive Game in Their App

The Jets won the SportTechie Award for the most innovative sports team and it starts on gameday.

Fans can ask all of their questions to JOAN, an artificial intelligent chatbot. Fans can also play “I Called It,” an interactive play-along feature that lets fans predict the outcomes of the plays to win points in the app. The Jets are the first NFL team to launch a predictive game within their team app. The team also introduced an augmented reality digital T-shirt cannon in which you have to catch the T-shirt with your phone.

“Technology is important to the New York Jets,” said Seth Rabinowitz, the SVP of marketing and fan engagement for the Jets. “We have to make sure the experience is not only as good as an experience at home, but better. The first thing we have to do is make sure the fans here know everything at home know — injury reports, inactives, NFL Red Zone, out of town scores and fantasy stats. We have to use technology to bring all of that content to this building and distribute it to 80,000 fans.”

The Green & White also utilize Next Gen statistics at MetLife Stadium. Throughout the game, stats are constantly collected from Zebra chips in the players’ shoulder pads and the footballs on the field. Shortly thereafter, the data appears on the video boards.

“This is a visual sport and fans consume our content mostly through video,” Rabinowitz said.

The Jets have also been working with Apple to deploy GPS-like directions around MetLife Stadium that will allow fans to see exactly where they are inside the stadium. The Jets also became the first sports team to pilot a program with IdentoGo by IDEMIA, which is a TSA Pre✓ provider.

The Jets launched “Jets Boarding Pass” this season, the NFL’s first season-pass subscription that allows fans to sit in different seats for each home game. The team is constantly striving for ways to advance their technology. Next year, season ticket holders can enter MetLife Stadium using iPhone’s Apple Wallet.
