Locker Room Sound Bites: Jets-Panthers

Bowles, McCown & Kearse on a Frustrating Loss, Anderson on Improvisation & 'Campaign' Criticism

Selected quotes from the Jets' and Panthers' MetLife Stadium locker rooms following the Jets' 35-27 loss this afternoon:

Jets head coach Todd Bowles on how to keep frustration from infecting the Jets' locker room following tough losses like today...
"Whether it's one game, two games, seven games — they all feel the same. We’re professionals. We have to line up and go to work. The NFL is a short week. You keep moping around about this past game, we won’t be ready for the next one. We’ll lick our wounds tonight and get ready to go tomorrow."

QB Josh McCown on his emotions following another close loss...
"It sucks, it’s frustrating. Everybody processes it differently, but when you go home, you fly in and out of, like, you’ll be watching the game tonight or something or whatever, and you’re flying out of normalcy and it’ll come back to you and you get really mad and frustrated. That’s part of playing this game. It hurts really badly, but it’s something that week in and week out you put yourself out there because that feeling of winning is so good. There’s nothing like it. But yes, this one stings."

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins on if he felt the loss was on him for dropping one touchdown catch early and having a TD catch late overturned on a booth review...
"I know these plays that we had in the red zone were great balls. I just dropped them. I take full responsibility. I know if I catch both of those, it's a different game. The guys played hard. All I'm going to do is work harder and be better. It definitely falls on my shoulders in the red zone."

DL Leonard Williams on the Jets continuing to struggle in the fourth quarter...
"What it really comes down to is, are we going to be the ones that make those plays in the fourth quarter or are we going to let them be the ones."

WR Jermaine Kearse on the task ahead for the Jets against the Chiefs next Sunday and the final four games after that...
"We've just got do our best to continue to believe and find ways to keep pushing forward, persevering. And if you can't find a way, you've got to find a way to find a way."

LB Demario Davis on defending against Carolina QB Cam Newton...
"I think our coaches did a job putting in a good game plan. We knew what they were wanting to do and we just tried to execute as best as possible. At the same time you've got to give them credit, they made plays when they needed to make them, enough to get a win. So we just got to keep working."

Robby Anderson on him and McCown improvising on the 54-yard TD pass...
"It was a scramble drill so I was trying to get in sync with him, but he sent me up the sideline. I had to keep my heels up because I was close. I was expecting him to throw a toe tap, but he directed me up the sideline, so that was all on him, just trusting him putting me in the best position to win."

Anderson on Fox's broadcasters knocking him for campaigning for the Pro Bowl after one of his touchdowns...
"I was just excited. I wasn't trying to come off in a bad way. Just excitement, spur of the moment. Everybody knows I'm all for this team in every aspect. I make my life decisions based off my teammates. Everything I do is about being the best I can for my teammates, so it wasn't anything malicious or trying to come off the wrong way. I was just excited in the moment."

Panthers S Mike Adams on if there was miscommunication in his secondary on Anderson's two long touchdown receptions...
"No, they made plays. Wasn't any miscommunication. No pointing fingers. It wasn't my fault, it wasn't Kurt [Coleman]'s fault. They made some plays. Eleven, Anderson, he's a special player, he's pretty good, so I don't want to take anything away from what they did and say they had a miscommunication or a breakdown. That's what it was. They made plays."

McCown on what happened on the fourth-quarter fumble returned by Carolina for a TD...
"I was just trying to throw the ball away. LT [Lawrence Thomas] was right there to my right and I was just trying to dirt it to him. We had a miscommunication in protection, a guy came free. We had several possessions behind the sticks and I wasn’t trying to take another third-and-long, a third-and-super-long. So I was trying to dirt it to LT and they got to me before I could get it out. Obviously, hindsight, I wish I would’ve tucked it and ate it."

Panthers LB Luke Kuechly on if he knew he had an open field to the end zone after recovering Josh McCown's fumble on the fourth-quarter strip sack...
"The one thing about Josh is he's fast. You saw it this game, he had the big run. We've played against him before. He had a couple of big runs earlier this season and he can run, man. He's a good athlete. He was here [with Carolina] and everyone talked about what a good basketball player he was. So I knew I had to run away from him the best I can because he can still move."

McCown on possibly playing next week against former Jets CB Darrelle Revis, who signed with the Chiefs...
"That’s so far down the road. We'll process this one and we’ll line up and play against whoever they put out there. ... With all due respect to Darrelle and those guys, we have to focus on what we're doing and get that done."
