Bowles Does Not Reveal His No. 2 QB

Jets Have Four Players Listed as Doubtful Including C Nick Mangold & CB Buster Skrine

Todd Bowles knows who his backup quarterback will be vs. the Browns, but he did not elect to tell the media of his plans Friday. Bowles said his decision was made and both Bryce Petty and rookie Christian Hackenberg are ready to play.

"I feel good. I'm healthy and this week I was pretty much knocking dust off," said Petty, a second-year player who recently returned to practice after suffering a shoulder injury in the Jets' final preseason contest. "I've been involved as far as writing things down and going over film. That part hasn't changed, but now that I take more reps, that's better for me. I get to put what's on paper out on the field."

Earlier this week, Bowles said he would not dress three quarterbacks in Week 8. Petty, a two-year starter at Baylor who threw for 8,195 yards and 62 touchdowns, continues to keep his head down.

"What I think I have is reality and that's everything what I do off of. What that means is for me to come in here and be the best teammate I can be, positive and try to be consistent in the things I do every day," Petty said. "The whole game plan for me is to be a better quarterback than I was yesterday and wherever that leads, that leads."

Sanford Stepping UpThe Green & White won't dress a pair of inside linebackers as rookie Darron Lee (ankle) will sit for a second consecutive contest and veteran Bruce Carter (quad) was also ruled out for Sunday's contest. Julian Stanford, a third-year player from Wagner who tied Sheldon Richardson for the team-high in tackles with seven stops last Sunday, figures to make the start next to veteran David Harris.

"I definitely felt that I was pretty active. I credit the guys up front, it starts with the D-line," he said this week of the Jets' record-setting performance against the run. "They got up the field and got a lot of pressure. It was a good defensive day as a whole, so I just felt like I helped contribute to the defense."

The 6'1", 230-pound Stanford and the Jets No 2 ranked rush defense will contend with one of the better young backs in football in Isaiah Crowell, who is averaging 5.2 yards a carry.

"He's definitely a physical runner, he's a good back," Stanford said. "He's one of the top in the league in yards per carry, so definitely give him a lot of respect and a lot of credit. We have to study, prepare ourselves and get ready for a dog fight."

The Spirt of St. LouisPlaying exclusively along the defensive line last week, Richardson tallied seven tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. He is a versatile force who also has the athletic ability to handle OLB responsibilities when asked.

"I'm good at everything. I'm great at three technique and I'll just leave it at that," Richardson said. "I know where my home is and I know I'm more effective at three technique, but I hold my own playing anywhere in the box."

Stack 'Em UpWith his team 2-5 entering Week 8, Bowles is in no mood to look ahead.

"You don't look at the playoffs. We just look at it one game at a time and when it's time to look up and see where we are, we'll look up and see where we are," he said. "Right now, we're just trying to win a ball game. If we can stack them together, we'll go from there."

Final Jets' Injury ReportWhile Lee and Carter were ruled out, C Nick Mangold (knee), T Brent Qvale (neck), TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins and CB Buster Skrine (knee) did not practice Friday and all are listed as doubtful. LT Ryan Clady (shoulder) and DE Muhammad Wilkerson (ankle) were limited and received the questionable designation. If Clady is ruled out, veteran Ben Ijalana would slide over to LT.

"It's not that challenging. You just have to play the healthy bodies," Bowles said. "We have guys that have taken reps all week, so if they're ready to go, they'll be ready to go."

Both RT Breno Giacomini and WR Devin Smith remain on the PUP list, but the pair practiced this week and could be activated at any point.
