Dawan Landry on Return: ‘We Missed Each Other’

Posted Nov 11, 2013

Wondering what your New York Jets were up to during the bye week? Wonder no more. Family, friends and, of course, football, seemed to be the common themes among members of the Green & White.

CB Isaiah Trufant and S Dawan Landry stayed in North Jersey to spend some extra time with their families.

“I’m not really the type to get out too much,” Trufant said, “but spending time with the kids is always good. That’s exciting for me, especially because they had a couple of days off early last week.”

Guys like FB Tommy Bohanon and DT Leger Douzable flew down south to Winston-Salem, NC, and Orlando, FL, respectively to cheer on their former football teams. Tommy’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons didn’t do too well vs. No. 2 Florida State, but Leger’s Central Florida Knights moved up to No. 15 in the AP rankings after pulling out a 19-14 win over Houston.

“We win out, we go to a BCS game,” Douzable said of his alma mater. “It’s that simple. We control our own destiny … kind of like we do here.”

Meanwhile, players like CB Darrin Walls and TE Zach Sudfeld managed to overlap family with football.

Walls went home to Pittsburgh, where he saw his Notre Dame Fighting Irish lose to the Panthers, but that doesn’t mean he left with a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Having a home-cooked meal was nice,” he said. “I don’t get those too often.”

“I was able to go to my younger brother’s football game,” Sudfeld said. “He’s a sophomore quarterback at Indiana, and I hadn’t seen him play since he was a junior in high school. I was able to go to see him in his element and enjoy the entire fan experience with my twin brother and dad, which was great.”

For those wondering, Zach’s twin brother is fraternal, not even 6’0” tall, although Zach said he’s a better athlete than both Zach and his younger brother.

Even head coach Rex Ryan got in on the football and family action, visiting his twin brother Rob in New Orleans.

Now, however, the bye week’s in the past, the buildup for our rematch with Buffalo is brewing, and the team’s hoping to pick up right where it left off, with its 26-20 win over the Saints.

“Everybody was hungry today,” Landry said, “excited and just happy to be back in the locker room. We missed each other. It was good to get away, but we’re back at it now and it felt good out there today.”

“I felt that enthusiasm to be back in,” Rex said. "And that’s sometimes different, last year in particular. We were really struggling. I don’t know if I really felt that coming back in, just that ‘Wow, we’re excited to be back here.’ We know what our purpose is. Our purpose is getting ready for this football team and playing to the best of our abilities on Sunday.”
