Posted Aug 9, 2011

The New York Jets have signed linebackers David Herron and Eddie Jones. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Herron (6'1", 239) has played 28 games with three starts over four NFL seasons. He has posted eight tackles on defense and 20 tackles on special teams. Last season he saw action in two games with San Diego before being waived on Nov. 22. He signed with the Chargers on Oct. 26, after being waived by Kansas City on Sept. 4.

Herron spent 2009 with Kansas City and 2008 with Minnesota. He entered the league in 2007 as an undrafted free agent of the Vikings and also spent time with New England that season.

Jones (6'3", 260) joins the Jets as an undrafted free agent. He saw action in 50 games at Texas, starting eight, and totaled 111 tackles and 13 sacks during his career. He was named All-Big-12 honorable mention as a senior in 2010 after he notched 52 tackles, six sacks, 10 tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

Jones was an All-American at Kilgore High School and participated in the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
