Jones Returns in Swap of Practice Squad LBs

Posted Nov 21, 2011

The New York Jets have signed linebacker Eddie Jones to the practice squad and released linebacker Ricky Sapp from the practice squad. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Jones (6'3", 260) spent training camp with the Jets and joined the practice squad Sept. 28 before being signed to the active roster Oct. 8 and making his NFL debut at New England the next day. He was then waived Oct. 11, signed to the practice squad two days later and released Oct. 31.

In 50 career games (eight starts) at the University of Texas, Jones totaled 111 tackles and 13 sacks. He was named All Big-12 honorable mention as a senior in 2010 after he notched 52 tackles, six sacks, 10 tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

Sapp (6'4", 252), released by the Eagles on Aug. 5 during training camp, was signed to the Jets practice squad Oct. 31. He was a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2010 before being placed on injured reserve Aug. 31, 2010. He started 36 of 50 games at Clemson, posting 17.5 sacks and 142 tackles during his career.
