Join the Jets for the NYC Walk With Us to Cure Lupus

Posted Oct 7, 2013

Co-captains Woody Johnson, Willie Colon and Austin Howard of the New York Jets need the greatest football fans in the country to help them TACKLE lupus at the 10th Anniversary New York City Walk with Us to Cure Lupus walkathon benefiting the Alliance for Lupus Research.

The Jets are proud to be a supporter of the New York City Walk and are inviting fans to join the New York Jets Team and reap the benefits:

Click here to register as part of the New York Jets Team. You’ll be joining the New York Jets and thousands of other walkers as we tackle lupus.

Check-in for the New York City Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, with opening ceremonies commencing at 9:30 a.m. This 5K (3.1 miles) walk starts and finishes at the spectacular Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and anyone interested in joining the team should proceed to 12th Avenue and 46th Street.

Raise $150 or more for the walk by gathering donations from friends, family members and co-workers and receive an Official Walk with Us to Cure Lupus T-shirt.

If you are unable to join us at the New York City Walk, then we encourage you to support the New York Jets and the best fans in the NFL in our quest to find a cure for lupus by clicking here.

Photo and autograph opportunities will be available prior to the start of the Walk.

Hang out in the park after the walk and enjoy Jets Fest activities, entertainment, and refreshments available to all walkers.

The Jets are proud to support the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) because it is one of the nation’s premier voluntary health organizations. The New York Jets are focused on winning football games; the ALR is focused on winning the fight against lupus! Together, we can find a cure.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which an individual’s immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissue. These attacks can cause life-threatening damage to major organs such as the kidneys, lungs, heart and central nervous system. Women are much more likely to get lupus than men, and lupus is the leading cause of death among women with autoimmune diseases who are in their childbearing years (15 -45).

Another major reason that the Jets are pleased to support the Alliance for Lupus Research is that 100 percent of the proceeds from the walk go where they are needed most: directly toward funding research into the prevention, treatment and cure of lupus.
