Jets Contribute to Hurricane Sandy Relief

Posted Nov 8, 2012

The New York Jets are donating $500,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts and dedicating their Thanksgiving game to helping and honoring all those affected by the storm.

The donation will be split among three organizations: The Mayor's Fund for NYC Hurricane Relief, the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and the Nassau and Suffolk County branches of the Salvation Army.

“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane Sandy,” said Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson. “The Jets hope that these donations will make a difference in the lives of those people. We will continue to find ways to assist those in need and encourage our fans to find ways to help with these efforts.”

The team will also honor 100 first responders during the Thanksgiving night game against the Patriots, asking them to participate in pregame duties, including holding a field-sized American flag for the playing of the National Anthem and forming the tunnel for the Jets players to pass through during introductions. The Jets will also honor those affected by Hurricane Sandy with a moment of silence before the opening kickoff.

Jets players have provided words of support and prayer to those who are struggling in a special video, "Players' Messages to Hurricane Victims", posted below.
