HS Coach of the Week: Terry Hanratty

Posted Nov 13, 2012

The New York Jets have announced that Terry Hanratty of Roselle Park (N.J.) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 17th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Hanratty is in his 16th season of coaching football. He previously served as the head coach of Governor Livingston High School for eight years, leading that program into the New Jersey state playoffs for six consecutive seasons from 2004-09, with a trip to the Meadowlands for the North II, Group 2 championship game in 2008.

Hanratty was an all-conference defensive back and captain of the No. 1-ranked, undefeated Elizabeth High School North II, Group 4 championship team in 1989. He went on to Kean University, playing defensive back for the football team and first base for the baseball team while earning his degree in health and physical education. Hanratty has taught physical education for the past 16 years and currently teaches at Governor Livingston.

On Saturday, Roselle Park defeated the New Providence Pioneers, 35-28, to improve to 6-2 on the season. This win gave the Panthers homefield advantage for their first playoff appearance since 2001. They play the Secaucus Patriots in the first round of the North II, Group 1 playoffs on Friday at 7 p.m.
