HS Coach of the Week: Chappy Moore, Notre Dame

Posted Nov 4, 2012

The New York Jets have announced that Chappy Moore of Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, N.J., has been named the recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, Moore will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program and will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 17th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Moore is in his 29th season as the head coach of the Irish. His teams have achieved 16 Colonial Valley Conference championships, posted CVC winning streaks of 32 and 50 games, and have won two New Jersey, and earned NJSIAA South Parochial Group A titles in 1983 and '89. He has been honored as one of America's outstanding scholastic football coaches by the National Football Foundation and the All-American Football Foundation and six times as CVC Coach of the Year.

Moore is a member of the Notre Dame, Bishop Kennedy-Kenrick (Pa.) and Msgr. Bonner (Pa.) high school halls of fame. He was named Most Valuable Player at Monsignor Bonner before attending Villanova on a football scholarship and earning three varsity letters.

On Friday, Oct. 26, the Irish defeated Allentown, 17-10, knocking the Redbirds from the ranks of the undefeated. Notre Dame’s next game will be at home Friday against Trenton Central.
