Coach of the Week: Rob Tynan, Joel Barlow HS

Posted Oct 23, 2012

The New York Jets announced today that Rob Tynan of Joel Barlow High School in Redding, Conn., has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 17th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Tynan is in his 21st season as the head coach of the Falcons. He played on the 1985 Trumbull High School state championship football team and garnered Connecticut Post second-team offensive and defensive tackle honors during the championship season. Tynan went on to play a season at the collegiate level before transferring to Sacred Heart University to earn his BA in business. In addition to his coaching duties, Tynan serves as the head of security and as winter and spring assistant athletics director at Joel Barlow.

On Friday, the Falcons defeated the Bunnell Bulldogs, 28-14, to improve their record to 6-0. This is the Falcons' best start in Coach Tynan’s 21-year head-coaching career and the best start for the football team in over 38 years. Joel Barlow's next game will be at home Saturday against the New Milford Green Wave.
