Braylon Edwards Back for 3rd Hitch with Jets

Posted Jul 25, 2013

It's time for a Jets summer sequel: Braylon Edwards 3.

Edwards, the bearded veteran wide receiver, joins the Green & White for the third time after passing his physical exam Wednesday. He joins a wideout group that will begin training camp without its most experienced player, Santonio Holmes, who was placed on the Jets' Active–Physically Unable to Perform list.

Edwards (6'3", 214) first arrived in an October 2009 trade with Cleveland, the team that drafted him third overall in the 2005 draft. In his first two seasons with the Jets, he compiled 88 catches for 1,445 yards (16.4-yard average) and 11 touchdowns.

He left as a free agent after the 2010 season and spent time with San Francisco in '11 and Seattle last year. When the Seahawks released him in December, the Jets acquired him on waivers and he added 10 receptions for 125 yards in the final three games.

After becoming a free agent again this offseason, he returns for his third hitch in green.

The Jets have also signed DL Leger Douzable (6'4", 284), who played in 43 games with seven starts for St. Louis in 2009 and Jacksonville in 2010-11. Douzable was invited to participate in the team's June full-squad minicamp, as were TE Kellen Winslow and WR Mike Sims-Walker. Winslow was signed right after the minicamp.
