ALICIA: 5 TV Shows to Watch This Fall

Posted Sep 25, 2012

In the exciting and unpredictable world of an NFL cheerleader, the start of fall means only one thing: football. But for me, a self-proclaimed television junkie, fall means more than just football. It means returning series, Emmy winners and highly anticipated fall premieres.

With such a busy schedule between work, Flight Crew rehearsals and games, there is very rarely an opportunity for me to catch primetime shows when they air live. Luckily for me, there is plenty of room on my DVR for those crucial moments during my off time when I’m in need of a mental escape. And with so many new primetime series under way, it’s hard to predict which ones will come out on top.

Here are the top five new shows that I’m most excited to watch this fall:

Most appealing — Elementary

"Elementary" is a fresh, new take on the timeless Sherlock Holmes fictional novel series. It depicts Sherlock in present-day New York City after he is mysteriously forced out of London. Dr. Watson, Sherlock’s illustrious partner-in-crime is played by Lucy Liu whose perceptive personality and emotional attachment are sure to keep audiences coming back for more.

Wittiest Sitcom — Ben & Kate

Good sitcoms are hard to come by these days. "Ben & Kate" represents an unconventional but original household combination: a brother, his sister and her daughter. The abundance of laugh-out-loud moments during the trailer was what gave this show a spot on my list. Ben is portrayed as Kate’s fun-loving brother whose innocence and quick wit is just enough to keep audiences entertained.

Most Captivating — Vegas

"Vegas" is a crime drama set in the Sixties about a real-life cowboy sheriff who tries desperately to save his town from an infamous Chicago mobster. As a period piece that’s both educational and alluring in nature, Vegas inspires us to act with integrity and stand up for what we believe in.

Guiltiest Pleasure — Nashville

ABC knows its soaps. After eight successful seasons of "Desperate Housewives," the network brings us "Nashville," a musical drama about a country legend who is forced by her record label to go on tour with an up-and-coming teen country pop star. With a compelling storyline and original music hits, Nashville, like Glee and Smash, has the potential to be a huge hit.

Best Comedy — The Mindy Project

"The Mindy Project is a half-hour comedy about the trials and tribulations of a high-spirited female physician played by "The Office" alum Mindy Kaling. The appeal for me in this show is Mindy’s blatant acceptance of her flaws. The trailer forces you to empathize and laugh with Mindy’s character as she attempts to make it through life in one piece.

Overall, I’d say we’re in for an exciting fall premiere season. So when you’re not watching JETS football this fall, tune in to one of the shows mentioned above. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did!
