11/17 – Hi, Jets fans, it’s Jasmine from the Flight Crew here! I still can’t believe I can call myself a New York Jets Flight Crew cheerleader. There were a lot obstacles and hard work I had to go through, and I just want to take a second and let you all know about my journey in becoming a member of the 2009-2010 team. I started dancing at the age of 6 and cheering at the age of 10. When I entered high school I joined the cheerleading team and had a blast, but felt like something was missing. So I decided to auditioned for The Special Dance Company for my school, which I was a part of for two years, and this is when I knew I wanted to take my dance career forward. In college I joined the KDT dance team as well as taking many dance classes outside of school. During my junior year in college, my friend approached me with the idea of going with her to audition for the Flight Crew. Right away I thought she was crazy and that there was no way in the world I would even have a chance, so I decided to go with her just for support and thought it would be a lot of fun anyway. The next thing I know, I’ve made it through two rounds and then heard my name being called as a finalist. I didn’t end up making the 2008-2009 team, but leaving that final audition I knew I wanted to come back and earn a spot on the 2009-2010 team. Over this past year I decided if I wanted a shot at a spot on the team, I needed to work really hard and sacrifice things to make my dream come true. I started doing a lot more research on the Flight Crew, taking extra dance classes to work harder on my dance technique, hitting the gym a lot more and eating right. As the audition approached again, I knew the judges would remember me and hoped they would see all the hard work I had put into this past year! I was so grateful to have another chance at making it to finals again! And as I sat there hearing our director, Denise Garvey, start announcing the new team, I knew my life could change at this very moment. Then I heard my name being called for the 2009-2010 NY JETS FLIGHT CREW! I’m so grateful to be a part of the most amazing team in the NFL!! It really is a DREAM COME TRUE! Thanks, JETS fans, for taking time out to read my blog. And always remember to never give up on your dream. Enjoy a wonderful and safe year! See you on game day … 1, 2 Flight Crew!! Love always, Jasmine

11/10 – How’s it going, Jets fans? It’s your Flight Crew Cheerleader, Danielle B.! I was so excited to write my blog because I couldn’t wait to share with you an unforgettable experience the Flight Crew just had. It was an appearance like we had never done before! We got the amazing opportunity to get a full tour of the 684-foot ship called the USS New York. The bow of the ship, or the part that cuts through the water, is made up of 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center. Its massive structure took our breath away as we got closer and closer to the ship. When we got inside, our squad split up into groups of three and then we were teamed up with two to three men and women aboard the ship so that they could show us around. Jennifer, Meredith and I were led by two young men in the Marine Corps, Bryan and Josh. We began our tour by looking at the tremendous machine that these young men were specialized in. It was called the AAVP7A1, or the Amphibious Assault Vehicle. They told us that the AAVP7A1 carries troops in water operations from ship to shore through rough water and surf zones. The girls and I got the chance to go inside and see what it’s like to be in one! It was very dark and very tight in there! We couldn’t believe that 21 fully equipped Marines can fit inside. Our tour guides then took us to meet the pilots and the REAL flight crew members of the aircrafts and helicopters aboard the ship. The first helicopter we saw was designed to transport troops and cargo. The next was a helicopter where the pilot sits in front and the copilot is directly behind. I went ahead and sat in the front seat as the pilot, and Meredith sat behind me as the copilot. The pilot showed me how to fire rounds and launch missiles just by the push of a button. (Of course it was just for pretend!) Bryan and Josh then showed us the gear that they wear when operating. However, we did more than just look at it — they actually let us wear it! We put on a helmet and the 30-pound vest and attempted to hold a huge M16A4 rifle at the same time. It was definitely a sight to see! I could not believe how difficult it was just to stand there with all that gear on! I wish I had enough time to share every detail of that day but then I’d be writing a novel! All I can say is that this was one of the coolest things I have ever done and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity. Out of curiosity, Jennifer, Meredith and I asked our tour guides why they decided to join the Marine Corps. Josh responded without hesitation and said, “Because it’s the right thing to do.” At first, Bryan wasn’t sure why he joined the Marines, but after being in the Marine Corps for almost three years now he says, “I do it to protect my family and loved ones, and the support that we receive gives me the drive to keep going.” So Jets fans, I’ve decided to dedicate my blog to all the brave men and women who sacrifice their lives and spend months at a time away from their loved ones to protect people like you and me. Thank you to all who fight for our country. And thank you Jets fans, for supporting the Flight Crew! Let’s Go Jets! Love, Danielle B

09/10 – The Jets Flight Crew, Manhattan and the fans came together for a big little affair earlier this week. The occasion was the unveiling of the Crew's first swimsuit calendar in front of Jets Shop in midtown. Director Denise Garvey marveled at the scene, and at the tall order of getting to "here" from "there," back before the photo shoots took place in May. "This was something we talked about but didn't actually know if it was going to happen," Garvey said as she stood behind the 13 Crew members featured in the calendar, signing their "months" for the fans who came to get their autographs. "When we got the go-ahead, everything happened so fast. "Now to be here with the girls in Manhattan, in front of the Jets Shop, signing autographs — we've come a long way in a very short amount of time and it's something that we appreciate." Christie A. from Fair Lawn, N.J., called the experience "definitely humbling." "I'm always excited to meet our fans," she said, "and when they know you personally, they associate your name with your face, and now you're in a calendar, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." That is the larger story to this calendar: the acceptance the Jets' cheerleaders are getting in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area. One who appreciates that was also in the crowd on this night: Jets owner Woody Johnson. "The Flight Crew is an important part of the organization," Johnson said. "The fans love them, and they're amazing in terms of getting the crowd going. They're incredible. They're great ambassadors for us." So in that way the calendar is an ambassadorial tool for elevating the Jets' and the Flight Crew's brands around the area. And in that sense, it helps that the calendar, everyone in attendance agreed, is such a beautiful production. "My month is April, and I think the calendar came out awesome," said Jessica S. of Iselin, N.J. "I've never looked so beautiful before." "I love my month," added Christie. "And I'm very thrilled with my picture." Calendar cover model Linda agreed. "Everything looks great," she said. "Everything is perfect." Steve Vaccariello was also pleased with the product, and that counts for a lot — he was the project's photographer who has shot calendars for NFL and NBA teams. "I've done a lot of exotic locations, like Cozumel, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic," Vaccariello said. "This one was cool because we kept it local. We shot it all right here in New York and New Jersey, which I thought was kind of neat for the Jets' first calendar. And it made a good splash, I think." "What I'm most excited about," said Chris Pierce, the Jets' senior director of merchandising, "is that we tapped into something that our fans really want. One was the idea of the Flight Crew and having cheerleaders, embracing that concept. Then in our third year we're able to bring a swimsuit calendar out there that has been really well-received by the fans. "The Flight Crew members themselves are really proud and happy with the effort, and what it's done is generated a lot of excitement." And the excitement for the 2009 New York Jets Flight Crew, just as it does for the 2009 New York Jets, makes a major leap beginning Sunday at Houston and then the following Sunday for the home opener against the Patriots. And once next year arrives, the planning begins again, and for 2010, maybe one of those exotic locations will be in the mix. "The water, the weather, Honolulu," Jessica mused. "I've always wanted to go to Hawaii."
