C.H.A.M.P.S. Middle School Flag Football League

The New York Jets have teamed up with the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) to support their CHAMPS Middle School Flag Football League. Through an annual $50,000 matching grant from the NFL Foundation and the Jets have supported CHAMPS flag football since 2007. In 2014, the NFL, USA Football & Fuel Up to PLAY 60 provided in-kind support in the form of NFL FLAG Essentials Kits which include 50 flag belts, 10 footballs and supplemental materials. USA Football will also provide training for all CHAMPS flag football coaches. The partnership helps provide more than 6,000 students at close to 175 middle schools with after school opportunities to learn the skills and techniques of football from qualified coaches.

The CHAMPS Middle School Sport and Fitness League is an initiative of the New York City Department of Education that promotes physical activity among children going through the critical years of middle school. The name CHAMPS derives from the initials of the five values that define our participants: Cooperative, Healthy, Active, Motivated, and Positive Students.
