A Score of Sixth Picks That Run the Gamut

File Under: draft, Richard Seymour, sixth overall selection, Lawrence Phillips, Johnathan Sullivan, David Klingler, Walter Jones, Tim Brown, Torry Holt

The Jets own the sixth overall selection in this weekend’s draft. It got us thinking which player was selected in the same slot last year, and then we ultimately decided to examine the past two decades.

2007 — Washington Redskins: LaRon Landry, S, LSU

On their Website, the 'Skins tout Landry as “a Pro Bowl caliber safety.” The 6’0”, 213-pounder definitely impressed in his rookie campaign, to… More

Focused on One Thing All Weekend

File Under: draft, Mike Tannenbaum, Darrelle Revis, Jacob Bender, Eric Mangini, Chansi Stuckey, Randy Moss, 2007 NFL Draft

The Jets' strange draft is over, and Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini seem pleased and not too tired after the way it all unfolded — two first-day tradeups for top defensive players, two late second-day stay-at-home picks for lesser known offensive players.

In a little banter to capture the mood, Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger asked Tannenbaum, "With this draft, Mike, how did you change you… More

Drive and Desire in Round 6

File Under: draft, Jacob Bender, DeMatha High School, sixth-round pick, 2007 NFL Draft

Jacob Bender, the sixth-round pick on Sunday afternoon, was a team captain at Division I-AA Nicholls State in southeastern Louisiana.

And he's a self-made, blue-collar guy. One memory he has from growing up in Maryland, … More

And T. Jones Makes Five

File Under: draft, Mike Tannenbaum, Darrelle Revis, four, picks, 2007 NFL Draft, Thomas Jones, David Harris

This is already one of the weirdest drafts in Jets history. Two major Day One tradeups to get two of the top defensive players available in CB Darrelle Revis and LB David Harris, yet the rest of the cupboard is virtually bare — just one sixth-rounder and one seventh-rounder in Sunday's final four rounds.

So many will look at the four selections and declare this draft so-so or thin or filled wit… More

Revis Is a Cause for Celebration

File Under: draft, Trade, Mike Tannenbaum, Roger Goodell, Darrelle Revis, 2007 NFL Draft, Carolina Panthers

The draft party at Dave & Buster's on 42nd Street in New York City was mellow. D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold were there, as were Leon Washington and Anthony Schlegel — New York Jets draft choices all a year ago this weekend. Leon and Wesley Walker, a Jets draft pick of another time, were signing autographs. Talk was of how far Brady Quinn was going to fall.

Then came "The Trade," and a… More
