Taking On a Defensive Issue

File Under: Eric Mangini, Shaun Ellis, Blake Costanzo, Kerry Rhodes, Chad Johnson, Kenny Watson

The weather at today's practice matched the mood of the team: overcast. The Jets worked outside again, next to the training bubble they rarely use even in the foulest weather, although it appeared that the rain crawling across Long Island fell before and after practice, leaving the players, like the sky, grim and gray.

"It's tough, man. A situation like this, it's not good," safety Kerry Rhodes, … More

'At This Point We're Not Good Enough'

File Under: Shaun Ellis, Jonathan Vilma, Kerry Rhodes, D'Brickashaw Ferguson

This was the toughest Jets postgame locker room I've seen in a while, following their 16-9 home loss to the Eagles. And for the first time this season, anger entered the equation.

"As of tomorrow," DE Shaun Ellis said, "we have to put this behind us and come out as an angry football team."

"Anger? I can't even tell you," said LB Jonathan Vilma, rarely at a loss for even a diplomatic phrase on th… More

Jets-Bills: First Quarter

File Under: Thomas Jones, Victor Hobson, Shaun Ellis, Trent Edwards

The game is under way, and the Jets open in a 4-3 against Bills rookie QB Trent Edwards, with Bryan Thomas down as the right end, 4-3 spacing along the front. Edwards hits two passes against the 4-3, the Jets shift back to the 3-4 and Shaun Ellis makes a strong move for a takedown of RB Dwayne Wright for no gain. Then the nickel comes in and Victor Hobson stunts with Ellis and gets a sack of Edwar… More

'Screens Are What We Need to Work On'

File Under: Shaun Ellis, Wayne Chrebet, Jonathan Vilma, Chris Baker, Kerry Rhodes, Eric Smith

This was a bend-but-don't-break afternoon for the Jets' defense. The players were happy with the win and with their first takeaway and first sack of the season, but they also know they did almost too much bending against Ronnie Brown and company in their 31-28 win over the Dolphins.

"We did OK," said S Kerry Rhodes, who came up with that takeaway on a third-quarter interception of Trent Green. "T… More

Jets-Dolphins: First Quarter

File Under: Chad Pennington, Shaun Ellis, Cam Cameron, Ronnie Brown

The Jets have gotten off on the right foot against the Dolphins. First Mike Nugent pinwheeled his kickoff to the back line. Then Ronnie Brown is stopped for a 2-yard gain on the 'Fins' first play. But on Play No. 2, Brown bounces it outside for a first down. Dan Dierdorf reveals on CBS that Miami coach Cam Cameron said at the production meeting on Saturday that "Tomorrow is going to be Ronnie Brow… More
