08/25 — THIRD QUARTER

A better start to Quarter 3. Mike Nugent puts the kickoff 7 yards deep for a touchback. And Darrelle Revis, described by Jets radio analyst Marty Lyons as "the glass half full tonight," makes another big play with the solo tackle on rookie TE Kevin Boss for 6 yards on third-and-7. Pennington remains at QB. Better offensive times ahead?

No. After a 9-yard completion to Leon Washington, a loss, an incompletion and a punt. Wischusen's theory: The Jets are holding back on their offense, intentionally keeping things very vanilla.

A blindside blitz by David Bowens takes Anthony Wright down on third down for the Jets' first sack of the game. And Darrelle Revis is back for his first pro punt return. He takes it 13 yards to the Giants 44. And the Jets are going to Kansas City ... er, Kellen Clemens.

And Danny Ware at RB. He's showing some giddyup — in fact, his 10-yard run off right tackle gives the Green & White their first first down since their opening offensive play.

And then it's Danny to the WareHouse. Following blocks by RG Brandon Moore, RT Anthony Clement and TE Jason Pociask, Ware jukes off the right side for a TD to give the Jets back the lead just over eight minutes into the second half. Ware's runs on that drive: 4, 10, 6, 5, 3 and 16.

Jets 13, Giants 12

And another touchback by "Nuge," who told me during the week that he prefers the spelling "Nuge" to "Nooge" or "Noooooge."

Rashad Washington, atoning for his safety-causing hold on a punt, makes the open-field tackle on TE Michael Matthews to set up third-and-8 and a punt that Revis smartly allows to bounce into the end zone. The Jets 20 qualifies as great starting position tonight.

And KC takes advantage. Clemens hits Justin McCareins for 45 yards past CB Kevin Dockery on the left side, then Brad Smith for 34 yards to the right. Then Clemens runs his offense up to the line, keeps off right guard and scores. Nuge with the PAT and it's ...

Jets 20, Giants 12

I was going to say Clemens can't do it every drive, as he faces third-and-8 in the final minute of the quarter. Then he calmly stares down a Giants blitz and flips to Ware, who converted with an 18-yard gain. On the final play of the period, Ware gets hung up at the line and is tackled by Zak DeOssie, the son of former Jets and Giants LB Steve DeOssie.

"Glad Chad finished the night without getting hurt. Ware locked up the #3 spot for sure. He looks better than Houston. Runs hard and is hittting the holes faster than he did in the 1st 2 games. Clemens was outstanding. Good awareness to get to the line for the QB sneak."

"Well after 3 games i am not sold on Pouha. They will look for another NT from the waiver wires. CJ made a big play and i think he needs more playing time. They have lots of work to do to get ready for the Pats. Everbody calm down Chad will be fine and the D will be better. GO JETS!!!!!"
