04/08 — A trifecta of quarterbacks and Boston College DT B.J. Raji were among the dozen college prospects who visited the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on Wednesday.
In addition to Sam Houston State's Rhett Bomar and Ball State's Nate Davis, the mid-week QB group included Mike Teel. The 6’4”, 220-pound Teel threw for 9,398 yards and 98 TDs in his Rutgers career. After the Scarlet Knights began last season with a 1-5 mark, Teel helped them reel off seven consecutive wins, including the Papajohns.com Bowl, to close on a high note. In 2008 Teel completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 3,418 yards with 25 TDs and 13 INTs.
Raji (6’2”, 337) is an absolute monster. After missing the 2007 season with some academic issues, he rebounded in ’08 as he collected 42 tackles and eight sacks. A North Jerseyan who attended Westwood Regional in Bergen County, Raji has publicly disputed a report that stated he failed a drug test at the combine.
The strong running back duo of Knowshon Moreno and Donald Brown (also both Jersey natives) made their way to Florham Park.
Moreno (5’11”, 217) scored 30 touchdowns in just two seasons at the University of Georgia. His 1,400 yards on the ground as a sophomore rank second behind Herschel Walker in school annals. He is a sure-fire first-round selection and most likely will be the first RB off the board.
Connecticut was sad to see Brown go after a scintillating junior year. The 5'10", 210-pounder, a great worker, set school and Big East records in '08 with 2,083 yards and 18 rushing TDs.
Alabama T Andre Smith (6’4”, 332) also made his way through the Jets’ halls. Smith was once pegged for the draft's top five but was suspended for the Tide’s appearance in the Sugar Bowl, left the Indy combine early and unannounced to teams, and then didn’t have a great pro day. But he was the 2008 Outland Trophy winner, started all 38 collegiate game he played in and has terrific feet.
While Percy Harvin, who wasn't here today, is grabbing many of the headlines, Florida Gator teammate Louis Murphy, who was here, will also see some love on draft weekend. Murphy (6’2”, 203) is a downfield threat who averaged 17.2 yards a reception last season.
Other visits today: Will Beattie, T, Connecticut; Xavier Fulton, OL, Illinois; Sammie Hill, DL, Stillman, and Mike Mickens, CB, Cincinnati.

Wed, April 8, 2009 - 8:48pm ET"Mrjetgreen is right on the money. If TJ doesn't show any sign of playing than draft Moreno at 17. I If an extension is what TJ wants, don't do it. He's 31 and had a fine year because of Faneca and Mangold and the threat of Favre going deep. Also lead league in yards with down years by LT, L Johnson, Willie Parker, and Fred Taylor probably helped. Without a solid running game it will be long year"

Wed, April 8, 2009 - 9:22pm ET"I would have to say that I like Teel better than half of this QB class this year. I wouldn't use a pick on a QB this year, but if he goes undrafted I would be on the phone w/ him like they did w/ Woodhead! Sammie Hill looks like he would be a decent late middle round addition if he lasted that long for us. I still think Rex will add a big RB/FB to pound the rock like they did in Bmore last year."

Wed, April 8, 2009 - 10:33pm ET"Our " D" is in place to do great things. I say we trade some draft picks for Veterin players. This draft looks light to me on running backs, and I dont see a standout QB that will be available. We should talk to good old Herm Edwards on trading Larry Johnson for a pick. He's got the right size to pound it. Along with T.J . ,and Leon thats a lethal combination. Freeagency has got all the recievers."
Wayne Said:
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 10:53pm ET"What's all this talk about drafting a RB? It's business but Leon is being dissed big time. Why not lock Leon up, and pick up a RB in the middle to late rounds? We're not showing Leon any love, and I'm afraid we'll see he's appreciated more somewhere else. "

Wed, April 8, 2009 - 11:38pm ET"with leon washington and thomas jones, why dont we utilize a full house package that gets them both in at the same time. Sort of a wildcat like offense. Defenses would be split. If jones doesnt come back and we pick someone like moreno we could still probably use it."

Thu, April 9, 2009 - 12:02am ET"It is great to see so many Jersey kids that may be taken in the first and second rounds of the draft. The idea is to keep them in the state as Rutgers is trying to do is great. I can't remember NJ ever having a decent college team. Kids, stay home, forget Penn State, Boston College, Georgia etc. etc. etc. We have big time pro football, it's about time for big time college football."
Alan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 12:18am ET"Take Moreno or Chris Wells? Are you guys insane, tell me why we should Draft an RB this season, this is one of the weakest RB classes ive ever seen, only one person ran in the 4.4 range. ONE!!!!!! Besides the fact that we have Leon Washington on the roster, and he is a great RB, so why does everyone keep talking about drafting an RB when its ridiculous."
Ira Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 8:14am ET"EA, It was interesting that only one team showed up at Davis' Pro Day workout. Would you know which team that was? Brown would be a nice pick but i think they need a bigger RB like Jennings or Greene."

Thu, April 9, 2009 - 8:38am ET"i think the jets should draft tyson jackson or everret brown at #17 they are both fastand big and can colaps the pocket. if they take a WR,QB, or a RB im goin to be so mad theyhave clowney they haveTJ and LW and i think clemons or ratlif will do good with the O-line we have now. defensive end is the weekest part in the team colmen is good not great and ellis is not getting any younger"
JETS 4 LIFE Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 9:25am ET"the JETS should be smart they need to get HEYWOOD-BEY at the wide receiver slot. the guy can play ball, will help the offense spread the field, but I still think they need to get Sanchez or Freeman and need to explore trade options with teams to move up if they can grab these guys, many are but I am not sold on Clemens, I wont beat a dead horse and will support who ever wins the job.but not happily"
Ira Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 9:29am ET"I see that the Jets might sign Miles Austin and if the Cowboys don't match means the Jets would have to give up a 2nd rd pick. If they do that then i would believe they will try to draft jackosn or one of the top RB's or even CB in the 1st rd. Guess they feel Austin is better than any of the WR prospects for day #1."

Thu, April 9, 2009 - 10:42am ET"They already hate playing the Jets"
35 year fan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 11:18am ET"Going after a big running back is a good strategy .Beanie Wells doesn't look bad. Cant go wrong with that pick.Defensive End is another strong showing this year. Those are the areas that look like they have the best players to me. I hope we look to free agents for our recievers. And trade for a QB. We have got to be smart and plan our clandestine operation. We are at a critical crossroads."
Ira Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 11:20am ET"Wayne, The Jets will take care of Leon don't worry about it. And why myself and others talk about drafting a RB lets face it TJ will be 31 yrs old when the season starts and with all due repsect to Leon he can't have 20-25 touches per game and hold up for 16 plus games. He is more effective with 12-15 touches plus his KO returns. GO JETS!!!!"
Anthony Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 11:31am ET"We definitely need an RB, WR. DE, and a back up DT. I don't want to see big Jenks get slowed at the end again. A guy his size needs to rest . If we get Raji behind him or someone of that size and talent, then how are offensive lines going to not get beyond tired when they face these guys. I am happy with the QbS.. But if you can get one who is good go for it..."
35 year fan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 11:40am ET"Randy ,Isn't there any way we could trade up to get Chris Wells, or Micheal Crabtree?Where there's a will there's a way, right?(please feel free to lie to me). If those guys are still around we have got to take one. No doubt about it. If not we have to change gears and go for a big defensive end. That is where the talent lies on this draft. "
Randy Lange Said:
"Sure, 35 year fan, there are ways the Jets could trade up for Crabtree, and the mock drafts I've seen have Beanie Wells available when the Jets are picking at No. 17. But I don't know what our interest is in either player, and even if I did, you wouldn't want me to tell you, would you?"
Ira Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 1:02pm ET"JETS 4 LIFE, Sanchez will never get by Jacksonville or Denver. And forget about Freeman too much risk there. They need to draft a player in the 1st rd that will be productive this year. "
Alan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 1:48pm ET"Wayne, I agree with you 110 % , Last season was filled with RB's they had RB's taken in the 4th round better then all the RB's in the draft this season. And Leon is being disrespected hugely, for the past 3 seasons, Day in and Day out, he gave 110% of his heart and talent to this team, and now when he has a door to the starting position other fans want a Crappy RB thats untested in the NFL "
Alan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 1:50pm ET"And Ira while i believe your an Inteligent Jet Fan, and most of your posts make sense , im going to have to Disagree with you on that Leon cant take 20-25 carries a game, How can you know that, when this team has never even given him that chance, we havent even given him 10-15 carries a game yet, he deserves his chance hes and 10 X better then Moreno or Chris Wells who both dont have speed for NFL"
Howard Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 2:00pm ET"i think this is a really weak draft class with only 3 strong positions wr, ot, and surpisingly te i think if he there t jackson at 17 or trade down we could get a wr in rd 2 or 3 and would be a pretty good player"
35 year fan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 2:15pm ET" Randy, your opinions are very valued. And your loved.Give us your take at this point. How about some of those freeagents that are available? There is some good recievers out there , no? "
Randy Lange Said:
"You're trying to trick me, 35. (May I call you 35?) Yes, there are some fine veteran FA receivers still available. Torry Holt's got great career numbers (although his yards per catch has decreased steadily over the years to last year's 12.4). But I'm as eager as you are to find out what the Jets will do at WR in the coming weeks."

Thu, April 9, 2009 - 2:45pm ET"supercolljetsfan, I went to the draft last year it was at 1pm I got there at 7am & the line was 3 or 4 blocks long. I got in but I had to sit in the upper deck so go early. Some guys went there stayed awake in line all night to be in the front anyway it was fun plenty of giveaways & things to do. There are 2 Jet & 2 G Men players there that sign free autographs it is a good time."
jet80 Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 2:48pm ET"What in the world or the jets waiting on with Leon? As for Austin comin to Jersey I am all behind the move.youd have to trade up to get a better WR then Austin and that would be the same as givin up our 2nd.Jets will offer over the market value and Dallas would love to get back into the first round by packaging their 2nd together with ours or they could go after someone like C.J with the picks."
35 year fan Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 4:00pm ET"No tricks Randy ,only love. We're all in this ship together. I agree with you.98% of the time. Toomers out there, and Plaxico too. I would put up with the possibility of trouble in Burress. In return we could get some guarantees in his contract for good behavior.Holt or Toomer could be a great teacher to the good young recievers we already have. Anyhow It's all comin down to the wire."
Vjetchi Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 7:56pm ET"I have to say I enjoy the recent years of Tannenbaum's aggressiveness but I am a little confused this time. Brett Favre last year, he bent over backwards for and we knew how HE'S been the bast couple of years. Cutler has only gotten better, besides being a whiner. I hope he's got some tricks up his sleeve or it's another year or two of seasoning a draft QB on the bench."
OriginalJetFan Said:
Fri, April 10, 2009 - 9:00am ET"I,m thinking this draft is for DE, DT, OLmaybe a TE lateThen at skill positions roll the dice on Clemons/Ratcliff, RB Washington/TJ Chatham, WR Cotchery/Clowney/Stucky/and JK., then next year fill in blanks at skills that didnt work. Oh yeah get the tall Jersey Kid free agent from Dallas at WR . "
brian Said:
Fri, April 10, 2009 - 1:47pm ET"i say that if sanchez is there at 17 then we take him. But if not then we get a wr because we need one. Next year is a better qb class anyway. We shouldnt even be thinking about drafting a tight end because that would make drafting dusint keller a complete waste of a first round pick. So as of now i would draft sanchez (if available) or the top wr on the board at that pick. "
J-Rod Said:
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 9:41am ET"Be smart. Don't just go after Austin. You have Cloney, Wright, Wallace, Stuckey and players in the draft like Nicks, Heyward-Bay, Brit. Be smart. Hold on to the money and draft picks. There are other postions we could fill, like RB, D-line and DBs or whatever. Having these picks are first for us. Why? Austin could be a beast, but we could secure more talent in the draft and hold on to some cash ."
J-Rod Said:
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 9:59am ET"Forget Wells! I'm tired of all these robotic running backs to the Jets. Don get me wrong, Wells, C. Martin, Thomas Jones are good backs, but isn't it time for a Mghee, Parker (Pittsburgh)hybrid back, one who is powerful, quickfeet and elusive like Moreno or tall like Mccoy ? We need change! As for Austin, we have over four wr's young , tall and speedy including the draft and this what happens?"
Dan in RI Said:
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 10:34pm ET"Our biggest needs are WR, a blocking TE, and more depth on the offensive and defensive lines. Don't spend a pick on a quarterback this year--let's see what we've got, first. Depth on the OL is vital--our starters are excellent, but if one of them goes down, we've got no one at all to take their place."
adamrugg Said:
