File Under: Jeremy Maclin, Hakeem Nicks, draft prospects, Peria Jerry

04/07 — The Jets hosted eight college prospects today and the visitors included a pair of talented receivers: Missouri's Jeremy Maclin and North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks.

There is a chance Maclin could be the first receiver taken in this month's draft. While Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree has been slowed by a foot injury, Maclin continues to gain momentum. He's a do-it-all type of player who totaled 2,833 all-purpose yards last year, catching 102 passes along the way. Jets WRs coach Henry Ellard actually led Maclin through some drills at his pro day last month.

Nicks is an interesting player. At 6'1" and 212 pounds, he's a little bigger than Jerricho Cotchery but they share many of the same characteristics — great hands, courage to go over the middle and the ability to pile up yards after the catch. (You'll be able to read more about the wide receivers in our draft positional preview on Thursday).

Mississippi's Peria Jerry headlined the list of defensive visitors. Jerry (6'2", 299) has a tremendous first step and can get in the opposition backfield in a hurry. Last season he collected 18 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and seven sacks.

Rutgers DE Jamal Westerman, St. Paul CB Greg Toler, Wisconsin LB Jonathan Casillas, Clemson DT Darrell Scott and North Carolina TE Richard Quinn also spent some time at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center today.

"Plan A - move up to get 2010 future #1 pick according to Kiper if he had stayed; Mark Sanchez. Then trade Clemens for a 4th round pick. Make Rat #2 QB. Plan B - Draft Jackson DE from LSU. Plan C - Trade down, add a pic and take one of the top recievers listed 3-6 who seem pretty equal in talent . If plan B or C, also sign Byron Leftwich and trade QB Ainge for a future pick."

"Look the jets CANNOT take a quarter back with the 17th overall pick. this is why, in 2005 when the jets cdrafted kellen clemens in the second round. They were looking for a replacement and or pusher for Pennington, Now with pennington gone to mia, and the awfully overratted brett farve is now gone. (THANK GOD), Brian Cushing or Malauga, or Britt or Hakkeem with 17th overall assuming Maclin is na"

"Ok, the jets need a tall fast receiver like Darrius Heyward-Bey out of Maryland. Since Santana Moss we have not had a deep threat and Heyward-Bey ran the fastest 40 time. We also do not know what Clemens can do with a better O-line so I say we give him year instead of getting Sanchez."
