04/06 — For the first time this draft season, the New York Jets today hosted a number of prospects at their Atlantic Health Training Facility in Florham Park, N.J. The visitors included Illinois CB Vontae Davis, whom many regard as the best cornerback prospect in the '09 class.
Boston College linebacker Brian Toal, who starred at Don Bosco Prep in nearby Ramsey, was also among those in attendance. Corner Darius Butler (5'10", 183) played at nearby Connecticut and has impressed scouts with his natural ability. He was on hand today in addition to Iowa corner Bradley Fletcher and Notre Dame S David Bruton.
The Jets will entertain a number of prospects on Tuesday. Stay logged on newyorkjets.com for all your official draft updates.

Mon, April 6, 2009 - 6:56pm ET"I know all the names listed are going to drive people nuts, but I like it! Stay the course and dominate on D. At this rate the offense won't have to take the field. I believe Rex is going to try to keep the QB to 20 or less att. per game and win the war of turnovers. With that being said, they will still have to fill some holes on O in the. Let's get this party started, cause playoffs here we come"
Row Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 7:03pm ET"Butler is my favorite CB in the draft, I see him being a mid 2nd rounder. I would love to see him in green and white.. Draft is almost here..."
Duncan Of The Desert Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 7:24pm ET"All well and good, but who's going to be taking the snaps? Thanks for keeping us informed, Randy!"
Brett Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 7:34pm ET"I hope the Jets are looking at either Knowshawn Moreno or Beanie Wells, if we plan on being a running offense this year we need more than TJ and Leon, they are both great but we need one more back to keep them both fresh, and TJ is getting up there in age so it would be great to have a young stud like one of those two also what would happen if one got injured? just Leon or just TJ just isn't enough"
bob mazz Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 8:10pm ET"When you have Tom Brady and Randy Moss in your division, you can't have enough good cornerbacks. That said, I hope they take a game breaking wideout to help the young quarterbacks."
Ira Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 8:24pm ET"EA, I really think Butler might end up being the best CB out of this class.I would be surprised if they went with a CB on day#1. Toal played hurt his entire college career. I would like to see them go after M.Ivy a LB from West Virginia. What are we going to do about a punter. I think they will draft one on day # 2 if they think one is worth drafting."
Peter B Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 8:44pm ET"Randy, honestly the best thing the JETS could do is give their young QBs two good WRs. Plaxico and Matt Jones would be a phenominal addition to the JETS. At 6'5 and 6'6 with Cotchery in the slot this could be a lethal combination. NO cb combo in the league could match up with them."
Howard Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 9:12pm ET"i like butler from uconn. but so far no one that impressive in that list, hope we bring in better players then this, although it sounds as though they maybe bring in 3rd and 4th rounds here"
MIKE Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 9:21pm ET"Please take Tyson Jackson 1st round. If we do not take him the Pats will at 28 an he will kick our buts for 10 years. He is the best 3-4 DE in the draft. He is a monster. Josh Freeman is a unproven QB we already have 3 of those. Build a lights out defense and the wins will come. Coleman had a bad year last year and Ellis is old. What we dont address now hurts more tomorrow. 2nd round take best RB."
Ryan Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 9:58pm ET"Please Rex, i love your attitude and stuff, focus more on offense in the draft. to me so far, our intire team is looking solid, but drafting a wide receiver wouldnt be a bad idea. another good choice would a blocking tight end..... the only thing i see us needing right now on defense is DE to be behind shaun ellis"
carl Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 10:35pm ET"Players that I want to visit. Brian Cushing and Pat White!!!!"
Roger Muller Said:
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 10:36pm ET"I think the Jets should go after a Wide Receiver and a tight end. At quaterback Kellen Clemens will get the job done because he's got something to prove. If it was'nt for Brett Favre he might have beaten out Chad Pennington for the top spot. "
Vincent Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 12:29am ET"I'll bust if I don't say it, so here goes...will someone please inform management that in addition to the Defense we also have an Offense needing some attention? I hope this is all a plot to lower the draft rankings of some Offensive picks by showing no interest... & then on draft day BAM!, we pick-up some top Offensive players that we need in addition to Def guys we're interested in."
alett Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 6:57am ET"Are you kidding me?? Plaxico and Matt Jones -- you're just asking for trouble!!"
kevhead Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 9:27am ET"Do any of the Jets front office read this? Is it me or are they missing out on some very talented WR's, let's concentrate on the O, not just the D! We need a WR who is a deep threat with good hands or our ground game will suffer this season."
Kyle Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 9:48am ET"What is wrong with you people that say we need a TE?! We have a GREAT TE in Dustin Keller. He is the man, and a future Antonio GATES!"
bigpete Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 10:06am ET"We dont really have any glaring needs this draft. most of the talent is on the offense side of the ball. I say go with moreno or wells then take a WR in the second. this is a deep WR draft so there will be quality in the second and third."
Justin Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 10:15am ET"I might be an Aussie- and a new New York Jets Fan ( I am a Favre fan), however, from what I have seen, Brett Ratliff has earnt his spot as the starter. He makes all the throws, and I am pretty sure he has the " other Brett's" phone number, so, you guys really have another Favre on your books, you just don't know it. Look at the choice Atlanta made with Favre. Don't make the same mistake. "
Peter B Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 10:31am ET"Jets fans sign Plax and MAtt Jones right away, the starting WRs would be 6'5 & 6'6 with Cotchery in the slot. Any Qb could succeed with that line up. Win Superbowl and then cut them if they become a distraction. We need offensive, help. If TJ holds out then draft Moreno if not then take Hicks the kids has incredible hands and played with questionable QB talent at UNC. Trade #17 for Quinn"

Tue, April 7, 2009 - 10:41am ET"I like what MIKE said, and I agree with him. Tyson Jackson is a beast and he would bring youth and aggressiveness to D-Line. Keep beefing up the D. It's what the Giants would do - go O the rest of the draft."
Rossi Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 12:27pm ET"We need some offensive weapons to compliment Thomas Jones, and Dustin Keller. We need a big receiver."
Anthony Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 12:39pm ET"WE do need a tight end a blocking tight end. Bubba Franks we still have but its only him and Keller. I think another big Pickup would be a good TE because then we have two threats from the TE position. What do you all think? I mean I want to see a WR picked up in the draft not a qb."
Ray Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 12:57pm ET"Kyle, what is wrong with us is that we have to keep explaining to people who have no clue that Keller is NOT an all around TE. He can't block for crap. And in case you have never LOOKED at the two, he's about half the size of Gates."
wayne Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 1:24pm ET"Jets don't have glearing need for TE.could use a blocking TE.Don't need to use #1 for that.If team has to rely on any of these QBs to win games, this will be a very long season.Get a good back(1-Wells or 2-Moreno)Can't expect Jones to repeat last yr.He's too old and Washington is too small. This team alway pull trigger too late on the obvious. In about 12yrs they'll finally land Cutler."
Ryan Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 1:32pm ET"Just everyone understands, we have many needs in the draft. We need a W.R., D.E., blocking T.E. and some insurance at R.B. and offensive line all around. We have playoff potential, but nothing more then that if these needs don't get filled quickly."
35 year fan Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 1:44pm ET"I know our defense was terrible last year.(second half of season), but I think its fixed now. I think we could even trade a pick to get some outstanding proven talent. Lots of freeagents are available!! Some Top notch players are already in NY. Toomer, and Burress. Those guys are big and they catch everything. Maybe a running back in the draft?"
Moosie1022 Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 2:21pm ET"AS bigpete said, we've done a good job of addressing some pressing needs in FA. No we didn't trade for Cutler and I'm happy about it. We have to take inventory and see what we have at QB. Could we use a BIG receiver for RZ opportunities? Sure, but we have guys with speed on the roster. We're in a position to take the best available player on our board. That's a good situation to be in on draft day"
35 year fan Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 2:29pm ET"How about contacting Tony Gonzalez's agent. He hates kansas city. How about dustin and tony G at TE. Now thats something we can work with. While we're at it plug in Toomer at wideout."
CMP Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 2:34pm ET"Its easer for a qb to be succesful when the defense holds opponents to 10 points a game get another possession receiver and run it. the defence will be great."
Johnny Cool Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 3:59pm ET"I like Ratliff and I'd like for him to work out but I don't know if he has a strong enough arm to play in our stadium. Freeman does. As far as the cornerbacks in the draft, if we were to go for one, I like Butler. We should go Freeman in the 1st and WR Robiski in the 2nd. Robiski was born into the position. He has great hands, height and speed and no character issues. Then TE in the 3rd."
tom hannel Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 4:25pm ET"i think in the 1st round the jets should select everett brown the defensive end from florida state hes tall fast he has long arms hes great at colapsing the pocket hes good with creatin space from the tackles and he has alot of leg strength to use against the run. the jets should not pass this guy up"
mike Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:14pm ET"GET LEON A LONG TERM DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
darius Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:18pm ET"in the 1st rd the jets should take qb josh freeman, 2rd wr Barden Ramses, 3rd another wr patrick turner or aaron kelly. we dont have any big playmaking wr as well as qb."
supercooljetfan Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:24pm ET"after reading up on robiskie seems like a pretty safe pick in the 2nd round but im thinkin demetrius byrd could be a good pick too in the 2nd or 3rd...his numbers aint great cause lsu is a running team and plus they were doing that 2 qb thing down there with one qb running and the other passing...plus byrd is the same height and little faster than robiski..would be happy with either one"
lovenyc1 Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:43pm ET"my considering about during draft pick 1.(17) The NY Jets Thomas Jones RB or Bryan Thomas LB or David Harris LB or Shaun Ellis DE or Kellen Clemens QB or Dwight Lowery CB can trade up to 1.(1) Detroit Lions or 1.(4)Seattle Seahawks or 1.(8)Jacksonville Jaguars or 1.(10) San Francisco 49ers about QB Matthew Stafford or QB Mark Sanchez ! Then draft pick up 2(52) get WR Brian Robiskie or WR Patrick Turner!"
supercooljetfan Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:46pm ET"theres a good chance penn states de maybin could be there for us a 17...even though he has some character issues maurice evans from penn st could slip to the 3rd or 4th rd "
Michael Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 6:42pm ET"I personally think that the first round pick should go to getting a TE! We need one bad! We will be fine with WR! We have David Clowney! That dude can run! He can beat a lot of the WRs in the draft as far as speed! We should go for a TE, then a DE, then a CB, then an ILB! That should be our draft picks! I would personally like to see Ratliff be the QB of the future!"
MIKE Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 7:12pm ET"Mr.T and Rex are on the right track as far as FA this and last year. I hope they don't make the same mistake last year and make a high profile move like Favre trade. Build from the inside out. Go DL1st round and leave Freeman alone. Everyone would agree with smart first day picks we have a playoff team. If you or Freeman or a young CB it won't put us in contention. Stick with the plan. T.JACKSON"
wayne Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 8:00pm ET"The Gonzalez idea sounds good, but I think working with Pioli might still be a problem.Especially since he's still in good with Belichick.Pioli would probably want a lot more from Jets than another team."
jerry Said:
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 8:34pm ET"Hey Randy.....the Jets should give some thought to bringing in Brian Toals dads as an assistant coach.....he is the HC at Don Bosco and simply the best in the state and probably one of the best high school coaches in the country...most of all he is a winner no matter what he does.....Im sure he could bring something to Rex's table and he lives in Wyckoff .....I know, I'm his neighbor."
Randy Lange Said:
"Jerry, I don't know if Greg Toal is looking for a new job at this stage of his career, but you're right on Toal as a high school coach. He's one of New Jersey's very best."
35 year fan Said:
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 1:43pm ET"Peter B is absolutely correct. And it should be obvious . We need more size at wideout. 5'9" will simply not due anymore. But how about Amani Toomer and Matt Jones with Cloney in the slot . Cloney is going to be great. Again I'm going to say it. Someone has got to rescue Tony Gonzalez and Larry Johnson from that dead end hell of the Kansas City Cheifs. That could be our ticket to the superbowl."
Ray Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 4:47am ET"No we don't have a glaring need at TE. We just DON'T HAVE ONE!!! No big hole there. We can just plug anyone in to block guys like oh....Julius Peppers, Adalius Thomas, Richard Seymour, Joey Porter and numerous other elite DE's and LB's we'll face next year. And whoever said Bubba Franks, he's not on our team he is a FA."
shawn Said:
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 3:52pm ET"Can anyone tell me why the jets are looking at all defensive players when we Need a QB and a #1 WR?"
