File Under: Giants, Marty Lyons, Rex Ryan, preseason game, Ira from Staten Island
04/01 — The Jets will hold their second open locker room media session of the off-season on Thursday, a week after Rex Ryan & Co. opened the inner sanctum's big double doors to reporters a week ago.
We wanted to alert you to the prospect of another bonanza of stories on this year's Jets that will be appearing on newyorkjets.com as well as in your favorite newspaper sports sections and on your favorite TV and radio outlets.
Also expected to be in the neighborhood Thursday will be Marty Lyons, the Jets' radio analyst and hallowed Sack Exchange member. We're anticipating getting our "Jets Two-Minute Drive: Off-Season Edition" back up and airing with a conversation with Lyons — on Rex, the defense, Jay Cutler, the draft and anything else on Marty's mind — late tomorrow.
Clowney "Moves Up"
David Clowney's stock is on the increase — if you measure the increase by the change in his uniform number.
The young, fast wideout, whom Jets fans have known as No. 17, will now wear No. 87, which of course was last worn by Laveranues Coles before he departed this off-season for Cincinnati. We'll be sure to check in with David on Thursday about the switch.
Final Preseason Schedule Pieces
The only bits of information missing from Tuesday's Radar entry on the Jets' preseason schedule were the date and kickoff time for the 41st annual Jets-Giants preseason game. That info is now available.
The Jets will play at the Giants — the teams' final meeting at the current Meadowlands stadium before they're scheduled to play again in the summer of 2010 at New Meadowlands Stadium — on Saturday, Aug. 29, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. EDT.
Condolences to Ira from Staten Island
We at the New York Jets and newyorkjets.com want to extend our condolences to Ira, our loyal contributor to the Radar and to seemingly all Internet, print and radio Jets outlets, and to his family for the loss of Ira's father, Ed, who passed away Monday night.
Ed began taking Ira to Jets games in 1963, the Jets' first year of existence following the three Titans seasons. The Green & White have entered their 47th season of life in 2009 and Ira has been there for each and every season.
Ira is very thankful to all of his friends here and elsewhere in Jets Nation for their thoughtfulness during this difficult time. We anticipate he'll be back strong as ever and with his dad still at his side very soon.

Ira is, without a doubt, the most loyal Jets fan and a very important contributor to this blog and all the others. I had the pleasure of meeting his dad Ed at training camp and he will be missed. Ira, we love you and you have our deepest condolences. "

Cutler like i said great Player, but just not right fit for Jets, hell end up with Lions or Bucs. KC will show all the doubters out there wrong."

Wed, April 1, 2009 - 6:05pm ET"WIthout a QB it is just the NY Ravens. Good defense, little or no offense. Remember Buddy Ryan's years with the Eagles? Same Deal. Go get Cutler, give 'em draft picks but no Leon or Harris. Gholston, maybe. The Jets have as good a shot as anybody else."

Wed, April 1, 2009 - 6:19pm ET"I hope Rex starts the media day with another assurance that we are going to be a tough physical team and then adds there won't be any whinny QB's welcome on the team. We already have the QB's we need for 2009. "

Wed, April 1, 2009 - 9:02pm ET"I think that getting rid of jones would be a STUPID mistake! Besides Rex loves the running game. We do need Cutler! I think that we could give up a first rounder this year and next! We already have people for evry other position except for tight end! We can just a get a good tight end in the draft 2nd round this year! We got Keller what round? Third was it? He is amazing! We'll be fine!"

Wed, April 1, 2009 - 9:38pm ET"nice of you to remind us all , of your ability to see the future . however your too to quick to pat yourself on the back ,and too quick to deal away some of the more solid pieces of our franchise, for what appears to be a large mouth with little consistent achievement. sure I would like to have mr. cutler on board ,but not at the costs that you have mentioned ...give ratliff a shot, <talent"
Frank Said:
Wed, April 1, 2009 - 10:01pm ET"The Jets must do whatever it takes to land Cutler. He will be one of the best QB's in the league for the next 10 years and the Jets will be contenders for the superbowl immediately. We have not had a QB of his caliber since the Namath days. Tanwoody go get him."
Brent L Barbour Said:
Wed, April 1, 2009 - 10:14pm ET"It doesn't matter who the Qb is if the play calling stinks. I say give Brad Smith a chance too. He's smart, athletic, talented, and a proven winner. If he could get Mizzou to win, then he can get the Jets to win too. Just give him chance with the first string. He has football instincts and can run like the wind."

Thu, April 2, 2009 - 8:22am ET"I think Cutler would definitely add to the JETS but we should not trade any of our gun players for him. I think a three way deal between the Broncos/Browns/JETS is a real possibily with the JETS giving the Browns draft picks. Mt T is very effective in getting deals done and Woody J still has PSL's to sell. Even if we don't get Cutler i think Clemens or Ratiff will emerge as leaders of this team. "

Thu, April 2, 2009 - 10:00am ET"chances are pretty slim that Jets will be able to pull this off, particularly since teams generally prefer to move guys of this magnitutude out of the conference.Only way they get him is to overpay. If you truly believe he's the guy, you overpay.Period.He's not 1st QB to force team's hand.Eli did it.Elway did it.And neither guy won anything until they got help. He's gonna want to prove people wrong."

Thu, April 2, 2009 - 12:48pm ET"Ratliff over a prowbowler? Clemens over a PROBOWLER? When was the last time the Jets were solid at QB? As good as the Baltimore defense was, they could not win with Kyle Boller under center. The Jets HAVE to get Cutler or a QB in a trade. Cutler can play, and if you bank your team on an unproven QB like Ratliff, the whole team will suffer for what may be YEARS! GO GET CUTLER!!! AHHHH!"
MattieRich Said:
Thu, April 2, 2009 - 12:52pm ET"Give the Broncos our No. 17 pick and send Ratliff along with it to get Cutler.... We will not have a successful season with the QBs we have."

Thu, April 2, 2009 - 1:38pm ET"i cant believe some fans are saying give up anything to get cutler we have foundation players some fans want to trade, give it some serious thought folks this team can win with what we have if coached right, Ira very sorry to hear about your loss keep strong and god bless"

MIKE Said:
Thu, April 2, 2009 - 5:50pm ET"NO CUTLER!!! Lets get rid of all the winers. Trade TJ. Mark my words he will not be the player he was last year. Last year teams played on there heals cause of respect for passing game. Now without a proven QB lets see how TJ does with 8 or 9 in the box. Trade him while he is still worth something. Miss the Curtis Martin days when a pro bowl player gave everything all day and never complained"
Rochelle Said:
Thu, April 2, 2009 - 5:52pm ET"Give Ratliff a shot, I think he will motivate the team. We need some young blood. Do not trade our "gold" players or there goes another season. One player does not make an entire team... LET'S GO JETS !!!!!!!!"

Fri, April 3, 2009 - 11:01am ET"dont worry ratty clemons even little ol Ainge will get there shot BIG DEAL. it will amt. to nothing we have no true QB they are rookies even 4 yr vet Clemons IF HE COULD WIN THE STARTING JOB, I doubt he will then what , TJ crying about $$$ he cant run that good anyway they will shut him down after a bit and dont give me any old records crap jones is done trade him and get a RB in the draft"
JETS 4 LIFE Said:
Fri, April 3, 2009 - 11:05am ET"cont- and while there at it, this Draft hopefuly they have a QB like Sanchez in mind , I hope I am so wrong on the Clemons thing its been to many chances with him and he never took the position by storm , and even with a bad line (some will argue) he still never showed real showcase talent, if he did a competition would not be in the eqation , alot of you are day dreamers.if you think he is it"
