03/02 — Whether or not Bart Scott had his introductory news conference as a Jet came down to weather or not. And at the moment it looks like weather — a lot.
(Sorry. Cabin fever already.)
The snow fell on North Jersey and the metropolitan area overnight and is continuing today, forcing the cancellation of Scott's scheduled noon news conference at the Atlantic Health Training Center.
However, Scott, the Jets' newly signed unrestricted free agent inside linebacker, is in the vicinity and he will have a conference call with Jets reporters this afternoon. Tuesday he could do some standup interviews with local TV outlets here at the AHTC.
SportsNet New York, one of those outlets, had planned to carry the Scott news conference. And considering that Steve Overmyer and crew conducted a long day's vigil into night Friday to get Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan after the Scott signing was finally completed, SNY will be carrying reports and interviews on any developments, which will go on whatever the weather.
Nothing else to report at the moment, but I'll post anything on Scott, Lito Sheppard or any other player that I can throughout the day.
Bart's "Wheel" of Fortune
This just in: Scott will make his first New York television appearance this evening when he pays a visit to SNY's "Wheelhouse" program that begins at 5:30 p.m.

(before its too late).Miami said they wont sign coles and buff is trying - he is too dangerous to let go to a div rival! Remember this is a guy who caught 3 tds in a quater vs ariz. He belongs here with the Jets - DON'T LET HIM GET AWAY!!!"

Mon, March 2, 2009 - 11:13am ET"Randy what about Leonhard I heard he was comming to the facility on Saturday any word on if we are close to signing him and what other prospects are we looking at example WR or any defensive players.Look at the G-Men they are beefing up their defense also what about Ray Lewis? Thanks for your quick response."
Randy Lange Said:
"Duaine, I only know what I read in the papers about Jim Leonhard. I'll let you know when I hear anything definitive about him."

Mon, March 2, 2009 - 11:33am ET" Randy, with all the TE talk floating around, , I totally forgot about James Dearth. he's a load at 6'4" 270, could he be the blocking tight end to compliment Keller? Or is that totally off base, seems he hasnt done much but snap in the years here and he's 33. Do most teams carry a person only for long snaps , or do they backup at other positions ? "
Randy Lange Said:
"I think it's evenly split, Original. Half the teams like their snappers to do something else, half like them to just make flawless long snaps. This is not a scientific survey, of course."
Ira Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 12:31pm ET"Just a note on Sheppard. He was the first player in NFL History to have two 100 YD INT's for a TD. Both came against the Cowboys."

Preferably Baltimore???"
Randy Lange Said:
"Nothing yet today, Rick."
Jesterbeast Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 1:49pm ET"Hi Randy, with it likely that Leonhard will become a Jet, I like what we've done on the defensive side of the ball...the glaring hole that we seem to be ignoring (outside of the potential hole at QB) is receiver. Why haven't I heard anything about us making a play for Houshmandzadeh. He's big and tough. Are we just resigned to addressing WR in the draft? Thanks"
Mike Jet Vet Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 1:56pm ET"We made the right moves picking up the guys on defence by way of FA .. Generaly CB's & LB'ers don't pan out for a year or so Lowery & VG comes to mind .. I agree Ellis is expendable & Cutler would be a good move if possible.. Rhatty or Ainge I believe are very capable 1 of them will beat out Clemens no doubt in my mind ..I do wish we went after Rocky from the Seahawks Or Canty from Dallas "
Mike Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 2:29pm ET"Randy do you see the Jets making any more big signings in the near future??"
Randy Lange Said:
"Yes, I do. But don't ask me who because I don't know who and couldn't tell you if I did know. All in good time, Mike."
Pranit Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 2:42pm ET"Hi Randy, whats Leon Washington's state? for some reason i thought he was a free agent this year, obviously that doesn't seem to be the case. So would this be the last yr of his current contract and the jets need resign him before next free agency, right?"
Randy Lange Said:
"Pranit, you are correct. Leon cannot become a free agent until next year."
evan Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 2:55pm ET"Randy- -such a great article and interview with B.Scott. The attitude that he exudes is exactly what the Jets need. Some no-nonsense, smack you in the mouth and love in Linebackers... It will make the entire defense exponentially better. Hopefully VG can do something as well- it would be a shame if he were a complete bust. Too early for that though. Cant wait for the draft, total faith in MR.T"
Randy Lange Said:
"evan, I will have a Radar entry a little later this week on Bart Scott talking about Vernon Gholston, both of whom grew up in Detroit."
Alan Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 3:33pm ET"Resigned Tony Richardson. Now just have to get that deal done with Leonhard, hopefully Ivy will too soon"
Drew Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 3:43pm ET"Just read the story how Rex went to B Scotts house to "recruit" himon Friday. It is a hilarious story...Another reason to truly love our HC and everything he stands for....I saw the T Thigpen name thrown out before. He would be a nice guy to bring in if he is released. Had a couple of decent games down the stretch. "
Ira Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 4:24pm ET"Drew, Kellen can give you the same and possibly much more than Thigpen. "
MIKE Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 4:42pm ET"I love all the moves Tanny has made, as long as they leave money to extend Washington, Mangold, and Brick. QB competition between Ainge and Ratliff, Clemens has never impressed me."
Tom Spicer "I Bleed Green" Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 4:44pm ET"If KC got Cassel & Vrabel for a 2nd round pick (I think 35th overall) why dont we offer the 17th overall pick to Denver for Cutler & throw in like Bryan Thomas. It is worth a shot why not give it a try"
Don M Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 4:56pm ET"Randy, Jason Taylor was just cut by the Redskins? Do you think the Jets would have any interest in their "old friend"? Still need some pass rushing."
Randy Lange Said:
"Don M, I don't know the answer to that, although the thought of it is intriguing."
joe t Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 6:34pm ET"Why are we not going after Igor Olshansky @ de? He's bigger, better and younger than Kenyon Coleman, who we should either cut or keep as insurance, depending on his cost. We should also consider signing Bryant Mcfadden @ cb either in addition to or instead of Corey Ivy, who Mcfadden is also better & younger than. Sign Jim Leonhard, draft a receiver to replace crybaby L. Coles and the rest is gravy DECLINED: NAMECALLING (CRYBABY L. COLES)"
JOHNNYJET Said:

Tyler Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 7:54pm ET"all these guys that we have at the QB position on our roster are too inexperienced to lead a team we need a veteran guy who can stick around for a few years and lead us to a super bowl like trent green or jeff garcia or even maybe kyle boller back up QB for the ravens!!"
chuck Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 8:11pm ET"we need a legitimate WR threat. Someone who can at least make the defense respect our passing game otherwise our run game will really suffer. I love cotchery but we need a compliment for him on the other side that will make the defense keep an eye on and make them reluctant to put 8-9 in the box. if this doesnt happen, our run game will be just like '07 and we wont do anything. i like nicks alot"
mitch Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 8:59pm ET"Mark my words, Ainge will develop into a top notch qb. Jets should keep him, develop him. Handled offense in practice like he was a vet. Accurate as hell, got into guys faces, got rid of the ball fast, decisive."
tom Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 10:09pm ET"lets get jayson taylor he would be amazing with rex ryan if they get taylor the deffense will be complete there is no way they can pass him up"
Big O Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 11:19pm ET"I sure wish we didnt get rid of Chris Baker he was definitely the man!! I hope we dont suffer for that lost, because we had two great tight ends and now we only have one that I consider hot in Dustin Keller, but even Dustin doesn't have as much skill as Chris Baker, I mean Chris Baker has made some amazing plays and now he has sided with our #1 enemy along with Lamont Jordan. "
Brad Said:
Mon, March 2, 2009 - 11:29pm ET"Cutler won't be traded but Cassel going to Chiefs could be good for us. We need to offer the Chiefs a fourth rounder for Thigpen like the Vikings did for Rosenfels. He had a pretty good season for the Chiefs this year even though they were terrible, didnt have much of a running game, and it was his first shot at starting. I would bring him in and let him compete with Clemens and Ratliff."
Ray Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 2:52am ET"Tyler do you honestly believe any one of the three qbs you just named could lead this team to a Super Bowl? Trent Green is one good hit from LaLa land, Garcia is 39 and fragile, didn't we try that last year? And Boller was THIRD string with the Ravens last year, behind a rookie and a second year man. Really, which of those guys is going to lead us to a Super Bowl?"
Ira Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 7:13am ET"Come on Jason Taylor is done. The Jets must do their homework on Cutler. I am not saying give up the world for him but keep a close eye on this. "

Fran'scan Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 12:28pm ET"I am fine with giving up our first round pick for Cutler. While he is not the prototypical QB for a Rex Ryan Defense, he clearly has all the tools needed. I also agree with Brad that Thigpen could be a good option if available. Now please Rex, get us a tall WR that can bail out whichever QB is in with a nice jump ball !!!! D Lovers, Leonard has just signed verbally so we are set. Now to Punters !"
Ira Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 12:47pm ET"Wow so Mr. T has hit for the cycle. Scott,Moore,Sheppard and now Leonhard. Way to go. Next up Ivy, Douglas, Royal and Weaver. Keep it going. GO JETS!!!!"
Tom Spicer "I Bleed Green" Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 1:00pm ET"Jets just got Leonard our D is complete now we need to focus on the O WR, QB, RB & TE."
Ira Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 2:05pm ET"Joe B, Resign Feely and then get Kapinos back after the Packers release him. Another name out there is Hentrich who is a FA and should've never been cut back in 1993 by Coslet. The Jets have gone through about 20 punters since then. And of course possibly drafting a punter. Chris Miller out of Ball State could be worth a 6th rd pick."
Sam Said:
Tue, March 3, 2009 - 2:24pm ET"No more SMALL WIDE RECEIVERS for the JETS! We need a (TALL) 6'4 or TALLER Wide Receiver with LONG ARMS and SPEED, to really open up the JETS offense."

Wed, March 4, 2009 - 3:23pm ET"Yes, Jared Cook, a tight end who is 6'5" and 250 and runs a 4.5 40 with a vertical leap of 40 in and a fast quarterback like Vince Young would be nice"

This guy is going to really lead our D. Ihope Harris can stay on the field to make this really work. Risky move by Leonhard leaving without signing. His agent is playing game but everybody knows he exceled with Ryan nowhere else!"
