12/22 — The NFL has informed the Jets this morning that Sunday's regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins at the Meadowlands will be flexed to a 4:15 p.m. start.

The Jets-'Fins game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but as the Jets' and Dolphins' seasons unfolded, the game was a target to be moved by the league under its flex-scheduling plan.

Then, with the Jets' loss at Seattle, Denver's loss to Buffalo and San Diego's win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, the AFC West title is suddenly in play, so the Broncos and Chargers will play for their division title and a playoff berth on NBC in primetime.

That presents an interesting late-afternoon scenario for the Jets and their fans. With New England playing at Buffalo at 1 p.m. and Baltimore hosting Jacksonville (originally 1 p.m., also flexed to 4:15 p.m., the Jets could know exactly what they'll be playing for.

If the Bills win, the Jets will be fighting the Dolphins for the AFC East title and the conference's third playoff seed. If the Patriots win, the Jets will need a win and a Ravens loss to get the sixth seed — and a road playoff game at New England. That means a little bit of scoreboard-watching for the fans in the stands.

If the Pats and Ravens both win, the Jets will be shut out of the playoffs.

Here's a vote for playing a meaningful game against the 'Fins at the Meadowlands late Sunday.

Leon's Still-Neon Season

Lost in the snow of Seattle was Leon Washington's continuing pursuit of another franchise record — most all-purpose yards in a season.

The record holder is Bruce Harper, who was almost untackleable during his career and never more so than in 1978, when he rolled up 2,157 yards of offense and returns, setting the franchise mark set 16 years earlier by Dick Christy, the Titans' multiple threat.

Washington came close to those marks last season before settling at 2,040 yards, fourth-most in team history.

With his 89 yards vs. the Seahawks, Washington passed his personal best plus Harper's 1980 total and Christy's '62 total. And now Leon needs a mere 7 yards against the Dolphins to pass Harper for the top rung of this ladder.

Here are the franchise's top five single-season all-purpose-yardage totals (*total includes minus-5 fumble yards):

 Season Player Rush–Rec–PR–KR AP Yards
 1978 Bruce Harper 303–196–378–1,280 2,157
 2008 Leon Washington 388–326–303–1,139 2,151*
 1962 Dick Christy 535-538-250-824 2,147
 1980 Bruce Harper 126–634–242–1,070 2,072
 2007 Leon Washington 353–213–183–1,291 2,040

"Inside the Jets"

Tonight's edition of "Inside the Jets" will feature FB Tony Richardson, long-snapper James Dearth and LB Jason Trusnik, along with Flight Crew members Ryann and Laura V. The show as always will kick off at 7 p.m. at Charlie Brown's steakhouse in Chatham, N.J.

A Word for Radar Commenters

I understand the degree of high emotions among Jets fans and especially Radar commenters this morning. But while I understand it, I also want to advise anyone about the rules of the Radar. Please, no obscenities, profanities or vulgarities (even of the abbreviated or coded variety), no namecalling or other personal attacks. If you think I'm some kind of comment cop as a result, well, I guess you're right.

If your comment contains any objectionable words, phrases or sentiments, your audience will be a party of one, myself, and then the comment will be declined. I'd rather you invest quality time in comments that will see the light of day on the Radar. As Dr. Cox repeatedly said on "Scrubs," help me to help you, help me to help you, help me ...

"I think the jets need to get rid of coles, he is a pathetic excuse for a receiver--Period. He cannot catch a pass when it is needed. Also, why do we start off so good and after the first we cannot do anything the rest of the game? Does shotty have that short a memory?"
