10/07 — To paraphrase a state slogan from a few years back: The Jets and The Donald — perfect together.
Donald Trump, New York's real estate and reality TV mogul, fresh off of last month's appearance at the Jets' Kickoff Luncheon, has contributed his big-city celebrity and understated humor to the Green & White's latest venture, the auction of Coaches Club seats for the New Jets Stadium in 2010.
Trump is the star — in fact, he's the lone human — in the TV spot that will begin airing this week on SNY, CBS and local cable networks urging fans to register for the auction, which begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 27. The piece has been posted on YouTube and is also featured on newyorkjets.com today if you'd like to preview it.
I won't give too much away, but the spot involves a solitary fur-coated figure, shrouded in mist and looking out at a stadium from the end zone tunnel.
"Back in the days when the game was dominated by rough-hewn warriors," intones the announcer, "there emerged a different kind of player. A champion who lifted New York out of its gritty past and into a new world of style. Today, that style has returned to the city where it was born."
Well, I gave away a little bit, didn't I? The Donald made me do it.
Now for the sales pitch, which Trump would deliver with that aforementioned style of his if he were here:
The Jets Coaches Club combines the best seats in football — on the sideline around the 50-yard line — with access usually reserved for coaches and players. Club members will be able to stand on the field and watch the game, five yards off the Jets bench, or step inside to a private 20,000-square-foot bar and lounge designed by Nobu architect David Rockwell. In addition to complimentary food and beverage, Club members receive free VIP parking adjacent to the stadium and can buy tickets to other events when available.
The auction will be conducted on StubHub.com, the Jets' official auction partner. For full details, log on to www.jetscoachesclub.com.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. Have a nice Donald ... er, day.

Tue, October 7, 2008 - 9:56am EDT"...wrinkles additionally as has been the case with Mangini the red zone running game is the worst in the league 1 rushing TD by Jones is unacceptable finally with all the money spent in the offseason there is no excuse if we are going to make any move to the playoffs this year this must change immediately or forget the playoffs...for this the coaching staff gets an F for the running game..."
Frank Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 10:49am EDT"Check 2 on defense forget the low rushing average the red zone defense vs. the run has been one of the worst in the league giving up 6 rushing TD's additionally we can't stop anyone in short yardage situations. Again this is inexcusable with all the money spent and the round robin of personnel the coaching staff is responsible and gets an F. This has to change significantly to make the playoffs. "
Ira Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 11:14am EDT"Frank, I wouldn't give them an F but they aren't on the same page for sure. TJ looked good in the opener vs Miami with 101 yds and 1 TD. But thats been it for the 1st 4 games. This week will be different and after watching the Boys game i have said it before they need to get the ball outside and of the edges and let Leon and Chatman attack that area. TJ can be used for the inside stuff this week."

Tue, October 7, 2008 - 1:06pm EDT"Hey Frank, there are 31 others to choose from. Pick one and move on, you may actually be a happier person that way. You apparently have way too much time on your hands."
Kayla Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 1:56pm EDT"Call the University of Nebraska if you want to know how bad Callahan coached the running game and the whole team for that matter. He ran the program into the ground when he was head coach there. It won't get any better while he's at the Jets. "
Randy Lange Said:
"Nothing to report, Tom."
Frank Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 3:03pm EDT"Hey Jets 69 take your own advice. Another know nothing who wants to attack the messanger instead of countering the argument.....Ira something has to give it's been years since we have seen any of our RB's ripping off big chunks of yardage they need to tweak the scheme and they need to add some wrinkles. The coaching staff has done a poor job mixing up the packages they are too predictable."
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 3:11pm EDT"Frank while I agree on our running the ball post... I think your complaint against our run D is a little off. Kris Jenkins is a major part of our run D. He was gassed in the NE game (thanks in large part to Graham) and was injured in the SD early. He and the run played well in the Miami game and against Arizona. Arizona is 100% in the redzone this year for TD's. They score against everyone there."
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 3:17pm EDT"The end result is we are 2-2 and need to make a run in the next 5 games. The AFC is wide open and I believe the defense will improve. It all depends on Jenkins....Also I know you hate Mangini but his teams have played well after the bye the 2 years he has been here. We can win this divison and certainly make the playoffs. If we are 6-3 going into NE are you unhappy?"
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 3:23pm EDT"Kayla...While I know Callahan got a bad rap in Nebraska he was in a no-win situation there. He brought in the West Coast offense to a school that ran the Tom Osborne run-option for 30 years. Nebraska was just as guilty as he was. Take Michigan, they bring in Rich Rodriguez and fans hate him because he has struggled while changing the Michigan offense.Cal is a good NFL O-line coach..always has been"

Tue, October 7, 2008 - 3:57pm EDT"Frank , money spent doesn't always lead to a quality product on the field, I believe they will improve as the season wears on & the new pieces gel. I for one will give my coaches & players the benefit of waiting out the season before I judge the product and coarse of action. "
MikeMc Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 5:08pm EDT" The jets have me scratching my head on this "sit next to the Donald " campaign. I personally would rather sit between Rosie o'Donnell & Rosann Barr. Honestly Trump has to be the 2nd most obnoxious man on the planet. (Obviously Mike Francesca is # 1). "

Tue, October 7, 2008 - 5:48pm EDT"I say don't throw miller under the bus just yet .. He has a lot to prove... think he will ' His experience size & quickness are assets to the team even if they rotate him with Lowery .. Still think 4-3 defence is better suited 4 the personnel on the team... Run D - is fine so far need to pressure the receivers disrupt the routes .. The nickle will be more affective will create more turnovers "
Frank Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 6:16pm EDT"Hey Mikey Mc glad to see I didn't make your list. Trump in a fur coat does this guy have no shame? I am saying the same thing about the money angle my point is the carousel of players with the same results. Look at Miami a team without our talent level but is a much better coached team. The Jets are not a crisp team and that falls on the coaching staff. I do hope they improve and turn it around."
Row Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 6:25pm EDT"At least we are getting some publicity. If I'm not mistaken, the across the middle 3rd down stuff is what's killing us. I think Elam can help with that. If you ask me I'd start Bob Sanders and Roy Williams beside Kerry Rhodes anyday! Callahan is an okay OL coach, and he has lead a team to a SB. I think someone isn't letting him do his job. #4 publicity stunt is ruining the Jets. "
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 8:11pm EDT"No vocabulary contests... I'm just a big Jet fan defending his team and coach against ridiculous posts from fellow "fans". As to getting over myself.. I respect every blogger that comes to the site to contribute...some much more than others you just happen to be one of the others."
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 8:17pm EDT"Some of you guys crack me up. What is Sparano the flavor of the month?? Did anyone forget that Mangini won 10 games with an average team as a rookie HC...with ZERO running game or OL. He outcoached and outschemed most coaches every Sunday (including King Belicheck on the road) Now all of a sudden after 2006 he is horrible and Sparano is going to the HOF? Our 2006 team was predicted to 3-13."
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 8:26pm EDT"Sparano has done a nice job with a "great" system QB that hasnt made any mistakes and great game-planning that has won 2 of 4 games. If you ask me that sounds alot like our 2006 team with Mangini as the HC....Here's the deal, Tangini has drafted well, signed FA's and are set to make a run this year. If they dont make the playoffs then you guys can go crazy. "
Drew Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 8:34pm EDT"MikeMc....A Rosanne and Rosie sandwich?? Sounds awful but I get your point. Row?? Bob Sanders is the defensive player of the year.. He's great but R Williams is on the bench in Dallas for the same reason Elam hasnt gotten alot of playing time. The NFL has become a pass happy league. He's a major liability. I trust Mangini with DB's and he thinks that Smith/Barrett are better than Elam then??"
Xavion Said:
Tue, October 7, 2008 - 9:44pm EDT"Yea Im not a big Fan of the trump either. How is it that every one is so critical fo the run game all together we have a better avg than last year If TJ would run a little tougher we would have even better avg We have thrown the ball more We got behind in SD and had to abandon the run We were play catchup vs NE, And vs AZ??? Who needed a run? The pass was working and we kept putting up points cont"

Wed, October 8, 2008 - 12:47am EDT"I agree with Drew we have the talent Smith looks lost most of the time but is better than Elam which is why he is starting I say we trade Elam for Ethan Kilmer of the Bengals he was hurt last year but is really good on special teams and the passing game he was a reciever his senior year in college but Mangini loves players that can play ST and another position I went to high school with him"
Row Said:
Wed, October 8, 2008 - 4:56pm EDT"Just looking up combine numbers, Elam ran a 4.55 40 and Smith ran a 4.63. I haven't seen Elam be a liability in coverage b/c he hasn't been on the field. I also remember the announcers saying he has played well enough (in preseason) that he should get the job. We will see on Sunday, that's for sure. "
