File Under: Kris Jenkins, Tim Carlson
09/18 — Timeout, oh Readers of the Radar, to welcome to our family Tim Carlson, our new intern for newyorkjets.com.
Tim comes to us from Queens, N.Y., where he is a lifelong Jets fan from a family of followers of the Green & White, and from SUNY Albany (a few boos for the summer home of the Giants can be inserted here).
He is a fine young man of 25 who has complementary sporting pursuits. He plays Ultimate Frisbee in pickup games in New York's Central Park after playing — "I played it all the time in Albany," he said — and he's an avid snowboarder in the winter.
Carlson clearly adds youth and quickness to the Radar roster that still consists of me and Eric Allen, and we have high hopes that he'll clear the high bar set by other interns of my acquaintance, such as Casey Pearce, managing editor of SanDiegoChargers.com, Troy Nelson, former editor of Guitar One magazine, John Beattie, now a production assistant with NESN, Jeff Weinstein, working sports information up at Boston College, and Stephen Haynes, our summer intern who's back with Newsday.
Tim's first offering for the Website is a feature on new punter Reggie Hodges that is now on the site. Check it out if you have a minute.
Injury List Update
Today's injury reports show the Jets' list unchanged but two players making some improvement for the Chargers. Massive NT Jamal Williams (knee) was limited in today's practice after not participating in Wednesday's workout. And LT Marcus McNeil (neck), who missed all the preseason games and the first two games of the regular season, went from limited participation Wednesday to full participation today. RB LaDainian Tomlinson continued to sit out practice with his aching toe.
Jenkins' Guest Appearance
The third installment of "Jets 24/7" this season airs Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on WCBS-TV, Channel 2 in New York, with a simulcast on SportsNet New York. And the guest segment will be on nose tackle Kris Jenkins, for whom the show could be renamed "Jets 24/7/almost 365" in his honor. Possible feature within the feature: baby and childhood pictures of the mammoth man who's been wreaking havoc with opponents' interior offensive lines so far this season.

He should be paid like the regulars for his thoughtful contributions. In fact, given the time, commitment and care he puts into his pursuit of the Jets, he should work directly for the team. IMO, he could enhance Jet operations in a few areas."

The Jets added 2 veteran O lineman with multiple superbowls 1 of them is an all pro a all pro full back & the best TE in the draft they added an all pro NT a stud OLB & a solid rookie corner the for the cherry on top a hall of fame QB that can still play THE EXCUSES ARE OUT THE WINDOW NOW WIN NOW OR GET RID OF THIS GUY 10 & 6 STILL MAKES HIM 25 & 24!"

This team was a mess after Herm left. Mangini and Mr. T had to fix the cap and change the attitude of the team after 2005. I trust this coach and still predict a 10-11 win season. But Im sure the excuse then will be we had an easy schedule!!"

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 9:51am ET"TC good luck and welcome aboard. Keller will have a breakout game this week. The Chargers secondary has been playing so bad the Jets should be able to move the ball and put up some pts.The Jets front 7 must get the pressure. They can't blitz Kerry because he has to cover Gates. I think Pace could give McNeil problems and they have to keep Rivers in the pocket because he likes to move around."
Hogan Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 10:23am ET"I agree hole heartedly that IRA should be on SNY. But not to replace Lucas, T REPLACE Adam Schien. HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!"
Drew Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 11:40am ET"Ira.....Pace and or BT will manhandle Mcneil this week. This guy had a great rookie season but was benched last season for his play. They were down on him on 07. Now he is coming off an injury?? He has no shot this week. "
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 12:28pm ET"Boy this has been very entertaining listening to you guys. Drew is certainly in mid-season form too bad Mangini isn't. Ira why did they move up to draft Keller and throw exactly one time to him? Look at the Broncos , Bills and a few others to see how a good coaching staff designs plays around their rookies and turn them into stars. Why do you trade for Favre and then hand cuff him you want to..."
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 12:32pm ET"...want to run 3 times on the goal line why not pread the offense and let him check down if he wants..it's Favre for godsake. The second time down they did that and bingo TD to Stuckey on an audible. Coaching and play calling stinks we do have time to correct this until Mangini realizes this the team will lose. We always have Chargers number and so Favre if they don't win it will be coaching."
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 12:36pm ET"By the way Drew if we lose this game 2-2 is not a guarantee the Cards under Wisenhunt who is a good coach have greatly improved and is certainly no easy game. So contrary to your proclamations I would be scared of the Chargers. This game from a coaching standpoint is a huge game another loss is unacceptable especially if they show no life and no significant improvement everywhere on the team."
Moshe Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 2:45pm ET"Mangini has to let Favre throw. I think Thomas Jonas has a good game, but if Brett doesn't turn it lose, it won't be hard for S.D. to stop our offense."
Ira Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 3:40pm ET"Frank, You make a good point about Keller. It has to do with the opponents they face each week. I don't agree to that completely but that is how they do things. He will have a breakout game this week. This team was built for the power running game. Even with Favre they will still run. But they do need to let him play. Its all about him being on the same page. He still has been here only 5 weeks."
Drew Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 3:42pm ET"Frank...I hate to defend B Schott at all but the TD throw to Stuckey was a product of a well designed play not an audible. It was a designed pick that got Harrison caught up where he couldnt get to the WR. Favre was throwing that ball no matter what. Secondly you praise Wisenhunt?? For what?? Going 8-8 last year and not being able to develop a running game or their young QB??"
Ira Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 3:43pm ET"Frank, I take one game at a time but you are correct. The Cards are no pushovers and they have a better passing attack now than the Chargers. warner is playing lights out and his set of WR's might be the best pair in the NFL. So i agree with you if they lose this week there are no guarantees to beat the cards to get to 2-2 especially with a short week of work coming up after a WC trip.GO JETS!!!!"
Drew Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 3:46pm ET"Listen Frank.....I believe this team will get things going. I was as pissed as anyone how the Pats game turned out. I am just not going to throw the towel in after week 2. I think this team can win this division. Once Favre and the offense get rolling this team will be tough. The Jets will have a duoble digit win season and then you can tell me it was all Favre and the easy schedule. DECLINED: VULGARITY (PISSED)"
Larry Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 4:22pm ET"SPICER> Good post. Cant say agree about Herm though. The team WAS a mess after Herm. The bleeding started at the end of the 10-6 season. Why? Because the only inventive playcalling they could come up with got figured out. Theyve made numerous personnel changes and aquired talent and theyre doing the same tired stuff week in and week out!!!! Incompetant is the kindest word I can think of."

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 4:38pm ET"SPICER-REALLY? Thanks Drew& Ira for taking on FRANK, less typing I have to do.To Mike the EXjetfan, I sat in Shea & watched Richard Todd, I am a season ticket holder for many years, alot of disgusting things these eyes were forced to witness but I NEVER, NOT ONCE THOUGHT OF QUITTING .JETFAN FOREVER WIN LOSE OR EMBARRASS. 3 more yrs for Mangini & then I judge if the program has improved ."
OriginalJetFan Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 4:50pm ET"Interesting talk about opening up the offense , lack of scoring etc, that will come given the QB has only had 5 weeks with the team. And the 3 runs at the Goal line, Boomer E, Phil Simms, et al all said they were the right calls, if you cant run it in from the 1/2 yd line you dont desrve it. I still predict 11 wins, even if they go down Monday nite. 44 yrs of this, I can wait a bit longer."
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 5:00pm ET"Drew pay attention Favre called an audible on the Stuckey TD research it. Ira they drafted Keller specifically to challenge the Pats aged LB core. Sorry but there is no middle of the field passing game which is where Favre and the TE's thrive. Drew, Schott has done a poor job of using the talent on the offense I am absolutely sick and tired of the excuses no more."

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 7:43pm ET"The Jets need to score touchdown! Stop the running game while you are at it. Lets see some play action and let #4 earn that paycheck! Favre should be getting 300yds a game and he only has 300something yds in 2 games. Pass the ball. NO MORE stupid picks #4 the Jets where paying 6million less for that same type of pick last year. Above all else go out there and get the W Go! JETS!"

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 8:21pm ET"McFadden would not have helped us, and all he did vs the Chiefs was show he was fast. We all saw the 40 time and such. WHO CARES? This is Jets football baby! Frank you are beginning to become my favorite poster. I have been a coach, played arena ball, I know football. We have to make a change on offense! Anyone who can't see it, needs to take a look at our offensive stats. 10 punts in 2 games!"
mike ex jet fan Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 8:48pm ET"come on u guys -- u all watched plenty of games -- even in loses we can see a well coached team -- u guys know football - & frank I will answer your ? bout keller -- he wasn't in 4 the same reason favre is not playing favre football need I say more."
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 9:11pm ET"Spicer are you kidding me you want accolades after 2 games?????? Wait until the end of the season and then we'll consider it. I said this before it takes longer to develop a defensive player than an offensive play maker. Look at M. Williams his first year vs. Bush. Then look what happened. As for Gholston you have BT playing lights out and Pace on the other side who is he gonna replace?..."
Frank Said:
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 9:16pm ET"Furthermore Spicer Gholston is learning a new position he never played before so there is a learning curve. As for Mikey Mc he has no idea what he is talking about so congradulations! And Mikey boy as for my predictions I do know what is happening on the team and I do know alot about managing large groups of men. Mangini is uninspiring and a light weight the results are on the field."
Drew Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 12:20am ET"No pats on the back yet Spicer. Your boy has played one good game so far. Where do you want Gholsten to play Spicer??Frank, we will disagree on the TD pass. He didnt called an audible, Favre even admitted after the game that there is no checkoff plays near the goalline yet. The play was designed to pic the defender (which it did) I hate BSchott's game plan but it was his call there. "
Ray Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 1:49am ET"Frank, I can't speak for Drew, but I don't think anyone is saying the AZ is going to be easy. I just think that whether it is this game or the AZ game, if we are 2-2 going into the bye, we are where we need to be at that point. (Obviously, 3-1 would be best case). And for the record, so that argument doesn't go back and forth, I looked it up, and Favre checked off on the Stuckey TD."
Tom Spicer Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 8:26am ET"Frank I never said a thing about Gholston I just want you to admit my guy is good"
mike ex jet fan Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 12:44pm ET"mikey Mc thx I was worried u might embarrass me thx -- cause unlike u I do get embarrssed when I watch my team & coaches embarress themselfs year after year its thinking like yours that has made us what we have become so thx again 4 not wasting your time typing bout me I'm deaf in that ear"
Frank Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 1:15pm ET"Drew I really don't enjoy beating up on you but Ray just validated my statement. Favre did check off on the play and I beleive someone wrote about it today in one of the papers. As for the three runs at the very least on 3rd down they should have spread the O and let Favre check down. 3 times in the same formation is just plain stupid."
Ray Said:
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 1:54pm ET"Drew, if you go to the wednesday Favre press conference he specifically mentions checking off or audibling on that play. So mike ex jet fan, what do you normally do each year after week 3 of the NFL season? All your Jets gear is packed away other than your paper bags. That'll show em! Mgmt and the coaches will do better if we all just band together and wear these bags on our heads!!"
Hattie Said:
Mon, September 22, 2008 - 12:51pm ET"Go Jets Go! We'll be wearing our # 4 Favre Jet's jersey tonight in Green Bay, our hearts are with you all, ( 4 - ever ) fan faithful."
