08/18 — Brett Favre will be available for his midweek news conference after Tuesday's single training camp practice. But any Favre Fanatics out there who want to get their fix earlier can go to the radio this afternoon.

We've just been told Favre will be a guest on the Michael Kay Show on 1050 ESPN New York. He'll be talking with Kay for either the 5:10 or 5:25 p.m. segment. You can get your Favre fix early this week with the 1050 ESPN Radio interview in embedded in this blog.

Sacks and Yardage

Lost in Saturday night's start and finish to the Jets-Washington game was the fourth-quarter pass rush applied by LB Cody Spencer. He showed a burst into the Redskins backfield to track down rookie QB Colt Brennan twice in the fourth quarter.

So Spencer joins a list of Jets that includes three other veterans and three first-year players who have recorded two or more sacks in a preseason game in the last 10 years. Spencer becomes the first Jets LB to buy a daily double since Mo Lewis turned the trick against Philadelphia in 1999. Here are the Jets' eight two-sack summer games since 1999 (rookies and first-year players in CAPS):

 Year Player Opp Sacks-Yds
1999 LB Mo Lewis vs. PHI 2-5
2001 DE MIKE CECERE at PHI 2-10
2002 DE BRYAN THOMAS vs. PHI 2-19
2003 DE RYAN WINGROVE at NYG 2-6
2007 DE Shaun Ellis vs. MIN 2-9
 2007 DT C.J. Mosley at PHI 3-30
2008 LB Cody Spencer vs. WAS 2-15

Spencer, coincidentally, is tied for fourth in the NFL in sacks.

Three more statistical nuggets: Brett Ratliff still leads NFL quarterbacks with 400 passing yards and is likely to hold the lead through tonight's final Week 3 preseason game with Cleveland visiting the Giants in the Meadowlands.

Meanwhile, WR David Clowney tops all the league's pass receivers with 222 receiving yards on his eight catches. And those 222 yards from scrimmage are second in the NFL only to Washington first-year RB Marcus Mason, who has 255 YFS in the Redskins' three games.

"Surely you contradict yourself by telling us you are going to stay off this website on this website. Apparently the irony of being a football fan and supporting the fins also escapes you."
