File Under: new Meadowlands stadium, Personal Seat Licenses, Jets PSLs
07/17 — Jets fans and season ticket holders will learn about the team's plan regarding Personal Seat Licenses, or PSLs, for New Meadowlands Stadium at the end of August.
The team has been studying the use of PSLs as a financing option for the $1.6 billion stadium after sending a survey to season ticket holders to explore a range of seating options, pricing structures, payment terms and amenities.
We'll bring information on PSLs to you on newyorkjets.com as it becomes available.

Thu, July 17, 2008 - 10:46pm EDT"Put another way, the Giants have clearly communicated their plan for PSL to their season ticket holders, and the JETS have no new infornation to report. "
MIKE Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 12:25am EDT"Where is Leon and Wellington? This wouldn't be happening if they were arround. Also do we have to buy PSL's when they build another stadium in 40 years.? Get ready for a stadium of suits."
John Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 1:36am EDT"Why wouldn't there be a joint announcement? Shouldn't both plans be the same since it's one stadium and both teams are paying the same amount for it? The survey that was sent out to Jets season ticket holders indicated that the Jets fans would be paying more. Let's see, the Giants have won 3 Super Bowls and been in 4 of them on the past 22 years and the Jets have won NOTHING!! Who should pay more!"
Manu Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 3:40am EDT"PSLs are an insult to every long-term middle-class Jets fan. The good old "bring your son and family to the game"-times are now officially over. I have a little hint for the organization: If you can't afford a new stadium - don't build a new stadium. That's how we normal people do it. "
arthur Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 5:35am EDT"well lets see two corner stones of the stadium taken by bud and met life ticket prices going up every year and parking as well now corporate buiness putting the blue collar worker out on the street not a fan of the psl seating but a fan of the game wich is becoming not affordable for the real fan"
Ira Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 7:07am EDT"Randy, I just hope the Jets will have the same type of payment plan as the Giants do with 3 payments and 40% of it due in March of 2010. "
Frank G Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 7:12am EDT"I am a season ticket holder since 1983, I do not think I will be renewing in 2010, pay more than I pay today for two seats in the lower level on the 25 yard line to be in the upper bowl. "
Daddy G Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 7:16am EDT"As a 24 year ticket holder, my view is that the initial communication cant really be serious, just probably a miscalculation by someone selling a "bill of goods" to senior Jet Management. I believe that a PSL of $3000 per seat could be doable, especially if given the option to pay over 10 years. That way there would be $300 per seat per year. Corporations should pay more though! I"
Craig Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:12am EDT"How can you have a PSL for a stadium that is shared, other stadiums the PSL gives you first oppurtunities at concerts and other events. Do I have to sit on the lap of the giant fan???????"
ap Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:13am EDT"A day late and a dollar short. Don't want to be 2nd class citizens but yet the Giants have been giving information to the fans in a timely basis and we just sit back and do nothing. Kind of like last year - Giants win the Super Bowl and we get 4-12 . If Woody doesn't structure the team PSL exactly like the Giants or BETTER than he has no cares for his fans. "
ap Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:15am EDT"Let's see if Woody still walks around shaking fan's hands after he announces his PSL structure. Build a team not a stadium. PSL should mean PLEASE STOP LOSING!!! "
Dunnie Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:25am EDT"I am not for PSLs either ... then again .. im not for ownership rights to season tickets either. I think seats should all be available at the beginning of every yr. to everyone. If you want to buy the rights for the season great, but all season tickets should be available to everyone every year. PSLs are a joke .. and so is a ten year waiting list."
Maryann Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:47am EDT"4 big corporate sponsers, personal money, government money, WHY THE FANS??? To buy a seat that I've had for 35 years? AND GET DOUBLE PSL'S SINCE THEY SHARE A STADIUM...COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!"
James Gabriele Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 9:40am EDT"I think its great. We had to have a new stadium, just had to. The Meadowlands is 30 years old. Its so outdated. Its not modern enough to steal every dollar from the season ticket holder. Its wonderful to read about the game experience the Jet fan will have in 2010. I can't wait to see it with my own 2 eyes. Randy stop drinking the cool aid the jets are givin you."
joe b Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 10:02am EDT"The quality of football that has been played by this organization over the past 40 years is PATHETIC. Most of the expansion teams have better playoff records than the jets. But we, the loayl fan is now getting a real slap in the face by this albatross we have supported for so long. I myself will never attend another game. I cannot support an organization that spits in the face of its LOYAL fans."
DKnyj Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 10:12am EDT"No one was begging you for a new stadium - and you are the geniuses that went WAY over budget! Plus you made us sit for 30+ years in a stadium with the other team's name on it, won ZERO Super Bowls and now we have to pay PSL's? The team would not exist without the common fan - $7 beers, jerseys, t-shirts, you name it - we've spent our hard earned money on it - all you care about is profits jerk"
William Lohrfink Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 11:02am EDT"I couldn't agree more with DKnyj. It's sad that in today's mrket we have to pay, or possibly pay for PSL's. If the Jets go with crazy PSL's, somebody's gonna have my seats in Section 140. Pony up an think of other ways to get your money for the stadium. We have been playing in Giants Stadium for 30 yrs... Let the Giants pay for this one."
Johnny Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 11:59am EDT"PSL's are for winning teams, aren't they? Let's be real, the common fans are the one's who suffer here. Now the majority of seats will be divided up among the big corporations, who will give them out to non-football fans, who never played or watched a game in their lives. The remaining tickets will go to ticket brokers, who will over charge, so the common working man can't attend either!!!!!!!!"

NJPhones Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 2:32pm EDT"I am sure that nobody wants to point out that PLS's are an investment, and that their value has traditionally risen-more than double in some stadiums, tenfold in other markets. Fans are naive to think that there would not be PSL's in a new stadium, owners would be naive not to expect an outcry. Maybe this will reduce the number of Patriot fans at home games. Don't shoot the messenger folks."
JETS!#!# Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 4:30pm EDT"This is retarded. How will the average die hard afford to pay 20 grand a seat, even over a couple yrs. Maybe they should just bump up the prices, which they're gonna do anyway don't be fooled. It figures for me, I've been waiting 12 yrs and just got my tickets this yr...might be my last."
MikeMc Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 4:39pm EDT"I renewed my tickets this year but it will be my last. I would have paid the PSL if they got the west side deal done or a queens locale, just can't pay the parking the tolls and now the gas to go to N.J. its an all day ordeal now. I'll probably catch one game a year whenever I can score a ticket, sad eh? Good for you Jersey, I'll be in front of the big screen next year.Later from eastern long Isl."
Tom Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 4:40pm EDT"The New Jersey Jets should have there own stadium in New York and maybe then it would be more palatable to the Jets Fan then sharing the expenses of N J Giants Stadium. This is yet another slap in the face."
steve Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 5:56pm EDT"just about every franchise, even including some not fully privately financed have used PSL's. I'll wait and see what the Jets plan is but if it's similar to that of the Giants in which more than half the joint involves a one time payment of 1000 bucks, it's not that much of a problem. I don't really care if Donald Trump in the coaches club seats or some other suit has to pay 20000"
Chilly Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 7:58pm EDT"Unbelievable!! It's bad enough that parking and the price of a beer is ridiculous, now a PSL?! I have 4 seats and cannot expect my wife to say "OK" to right out a $20K check plus the season rates just to say J-E-T-S! I've only had seasons for 4 years after waiting 12. Remember the $50 waitlist fee.......that now seems like a good deal!! Good bye Jets and good luck w/ corporate! "
Drew Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 9:22pm EDT"I know I am in the minority but the teams can do what they want. This PSL is not a new idea. Other franchises have pulled this and "suprise" they sell out every game. If fans do not want to pay there will be 50 people lining up behind them to take their seats. Everyone should stop complaining and pay or get out of the way. All I care about is winning a damn Super Bowl. "
Dunnie Said:
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 10:00pm EDT"I bet you will see the average price of a JETS ticket in the lower bowl go for $500-$1000 ... just check Cowboy ticket prices to confirm this ... they are the poster children for PSLs. Probably a lot more than that since our PSLs will probably be higher due to inflation. Owners will want to mitigate their PSL costs thru astronomical scalping on Stubhub."

People who have paid for PSLs for the current stadium shouldnt be paying PSLs again for the new stadium. Jets fans have given all their support even when the jets give the fans losing seasons. How much the fans put in doesnt equal the return of the jets in my opinion. Win another superbowl b4 uping $."

If I invest in PSL's do I get first right of ticket refusal for any other event that goes on in stadium i.e. concert, college games etc. I would think this should be a benefit for PSL holders since their money was used to build stadium?"

Great comment by another "fan"- PSL "Please Stop Losing" $10,000 for two seats and rip-off ticket prices, and who knows what parking and gas will cost"

Sat, July 19, 2008 - 8:51am EDT"Hey Steve, are you serious? First all, currently a small number of franchises have resorted to mandating their devoted fan base to purchasing these self serving licenses. More importantly, where is the justification in demanding the fans to subsidize the cost of a new stadium. We don't even need a new stadium. Where is the benefit? No dome...the facilty is still the swamps of Jersey. "

Another thing, why arent non-football related things that will use the stadium not contributing to the costs? i dont know if you guys pay for the fireworks, but if you STOP that should save you at least a couple of thousands dollars. Have a fund raiser for it instead of PSLs."

Lets celebrate the 40th aniv. of our last championship with a 200%inc"

This fan base is blue collar. How are they going to afford it? You think the PSL is going to sell for more money? Ever try selling a Jets ticket in November when the are 4-8? Good luck. Since the jets and giants will share in the revenue of the new stadium and we the season ticket holders will pay for 1/3 of the stadium shouldn't we get first dibs on concerts etc. etc. sine our psl will pay for a good part of the stadium. I doubt you will print "
Jeff Hyatt Said:
Mon, July 21, 2008 - 1:12pm EDT"So the stadium planning committee misbudgets and the faithful season ticket holders have to pick up the slack? I never thought they'd stoop so low as to pull a PSL campaign like this. Charging $50 to be on the waiting list was also pure genius. When will we Jets fans wake up and see that the future just, like, isn't there? "

Mon, July 21, 2008 - 4:52pm EDT"The audacity to have PSL's is beyond desciption, First, let's start with the lie that the team is giving us about the cost of the stadium. Technically, they are correct, the stadium is costing $1.3 billion, but they neglect to say that it is being shared by two teams, therefore the Jets cost is $650 million. Second, if I am expected to pay for this, they should consult with me about the design. "
Bill Said:
Mon, July 21, 2008 - 4:55pm EDT"Nice how they limit the amount you can say. So much for freedom of speech. I suggest that we sell out PSL's to the Patriots and Dolphins! #0 years of being a season ticket holder,,,you can have my tickets back now(refund my money of course)"

Mon, July 21, 2008 - 5:42pm EDT"Maybe the Jets should just table this whole PSL idea until they do more on the field then they promise every year! As much as people hate the Patriots you have to admit they do right by their fans! Why weren't the PSLs reasonably priced for the loyal fan considering 2 teams are sharing the stadium in one of the biggest NFL markets? I think the Jets new nickname should be Gang Greed!"

You are just as bad as the front office trying to maximize its profit, or the jet fan that sells his ticket for 5x the value to a patriots fan. I'm not on the side of the organization here but my point is the jets owe all of us nothing , its capitalism at its best ,supply and demand. It was expected and all of us would do the same."

Mon, July 21, 2008 - 9:19pm EDT"Jet season ticket holders participate in many charitable events every season (toy & food drives, contributing to Woody's pet charities) so why not a little "corporate charity" by means of a PSL? This is horrible because 2 teams/1 stadium was supposed to cut costs! Again, the average fan pays for corporate stupidity and greed. If the stadium debt is paid, do I get my money back if I don't sell?"

Just dosen't add up for the fans but adds up just fine for the Jersey Jets and Jersey Giants. Good luck with the new stadium ... if you pay the PSL you have no right to complain. If you cannot afford it, drop the tickets and watch on TV like us common-folk do!"

Of course not, but than again the new stadium is not for the fans. The Jets have an opportunity in August to show they care and greatly reduce the prices they are going to charge for PSL. Will they? Of course not. "

The idea of PSLs as an "investment" is silly -- that's what my 401(k) is for, and for the sake of comfort in my old age, I hope I have better investment options. "

Wed, July 23, 2008 - 7:42am EDT"We keep hearing about how much debt the team will have after building this new stadium. Yes, they will have a loan to pay off but they will also own a new stadium. Why does the team think they get to pay off this loan right away with PSL's? Make payments like the rest of us have to do. If I took out a loan to buy a house and rented a room, I couldn't charge the cost of the loan in one year's rent."

I truly mess Mr. Leon Hess. PS Notice how the team spent money on free agents this year, just before they asked for PSL's."
Jeff Hyatt Said:
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 11:17am EDT"They say the reason they need PSLs is because they have to pay for the stadium faster than they'd originally thought. Well, then, treat the PSLs like bonds... use them to pay for the stadium, then pay the money from the PSLs back to those who bought them over time. Stadium paid for, ticket holders reimbursed, everyone (sort of) happy. "

Does the season ticket holder who paid for PSL now have worthless tickets? Also, if the Giants and Jets are doing PSL's is the fan now a owner of 50% of the seat? You figure that both teams are charging PSL's to build the stadium.."

Gas cost is high, not guaranteed a parking spot at the new stadium, have to deal with bumper-to-bumper traffic, risk my car to be dented or lose my review mirror getting knocked off by idiots in the parking lot playing football, season tickets going up 2-3 times face value, Jets aren’t a good team year-after-year, I just got a 1600 on my SAT....."

Fri, August 22, 2008 - 1:47pm EDT"I think this PSL program is unnecessary. It eliminates the season ticket holders that are the core of the Jet's fan base. If the 15+ year ticket holders don't like the move, I suggest the New York Jets listen to their most loyal fans. Season tickets shouldn't go to the highest bidder; they are already a financial committment many fans take every year and should be available to these great fans."
