File Under: Kellen Clemens, Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins, Will Allen, Michael Lehan

07/15 — In the Looking for a Silver Lining Dept., the Miami Dolphins, despite their 1-15 record, did continue a long-standing positive tradition of theirs, and they continued it in their Week 13 game against the Jets.

In that game, you'll recall, CB Will Allen blitzed and executed a strip sack of Kellen Clemens in the second quarter. Safety Michael Lehan picked up the loose ball and took it 43 yards for the Dolphins touchdown.

Seems the 'Fins always return a loose ball for a score. With Tennessee failing to register a fumble-return touchdown last season, the Dolphins have the longest current streak in the NFL, 10 seasons, during which they've scored 12 TDs (nine on defensive returns, two on offense, one on specials).

Of course, the man normally lugging the leather to the house is DE Jason Taylor — he has five of those 12 TDs over the last decade, the most in the league in that span.

Interestingly, in the 12 games since 1998 in which Miami has scored off a fumble, they had won 11 of them until the Jets rolled last season, 40-13. Lehan, who scored his first career TD and also had his first career sack in that game, told the Miami Herald afterward:

"It's actually hard to recall the excitement. I don't even remember what quarter that was. Whatever the final score was, 40-13 or something like that, that's what's ringing louder in my head as opposed to the play.''

That's what the good players say about personal achievements in this ultimate team game. Taylor may not be back with the Dolphins, Lehan likely will and the Aqua & Coral, which has challenged the Green & White in often high-scoring, highly entertaining affairs over the last four decades, will regroup for a couple of more AFC East battles with the Jets in '08.

Here are the Dolphins' dozen fumble-return TDs over the last 10 years:

 Season Player Opp Play
1999 DE Jason Taylor at DEN sack
2000 DE Jason Taylor at CIN sack
CB Sam Madison vs. BUF reception
2001 DE Jason Taylor vs. NE aborted play
RB Travis Minor at SEA QB scramble
2002 ST Trent Gamble vs. DET muffed punt
2003 TE Randy McMichael at JAX reception
DE Jason Taylor at DAL sack
2004 LB Derrick Pope at SF sack
2005 DE Jason Taylor vs. DEN sack
2006 S Renaldo Hill vs. MIN run
2007 S Michael Lehan vs. NYJ sack

Three of these AFC East Radar entries remain before the Jets' full squad begins practicing July 24. The schedule:

"Did I read that D Henderson's defense was great?? Isnt this the same guy who cannot keep an NFL job?? He did a nice job of blitzing every down and as I have stated before having a decent defense that misleading stats made our defense look much better than we were. Our defense was good when J-Abe decided he could take the field. Never made a big stop against NE!!!!!"

"Randy , what a week , first they sign Dwight "Swipe" - which correct me if I'm wrong , Lowery had 26 Ints in college correct? He had 13 @ San Jose and another 13 @ cabrillo. Then they signed Ainge and today Keller too. I can't wait for the season to start - all the players Mangini has brought in so far fit his system perfectly - hopefully this newest group will do the same"
