File Under: Mike Tannenbaum, Kerry Rhodes, Jets Night at Shea, Fox-TV
07/11 — The Jets' and Mets' mutual admiration society, which many thought finally held its last meeting at Tuesday night's "Jets Night at Shea" festivities, will continue through Saturday's Mets game at Shea against the Colorado Rockies.
Here's the scoop. The Mets were looking for a Jets player to read their starting lineup on FOX's regional telecast of this afternoon's game at Shea. The hottest team in the National League (seven wins in a row) asked the Jets, who suggested Kerry Rhodes, and one of the hottest safeties in his game agreed to handle the announcing chore.
So after Jets Night at Shea, it'll be Jets Day at Shea. Rhodes is expected to don an Amazins jersey, pitch the Mets lineup, then take in the action from seats behind home plate.
It's a great stage for Rhodes, who has come close two years in a row to cracking the Pro Bowl lineup and has been hard at work this off-season working on his game not for a trip to Hawaii, although that would be nice, but to help his defense and his team start fast and finish strong in 2008.
Coincidentally, the Jets issued an updated roster today and for K-Rhodes there is one significant change. After being listed at 210 pounds his first three seasons in the NFL, Rhodes will now be officially listed at 220. He didn't gain the weight from eating bonbons.
Update, 4:05 p.m. — FOX got an audio glitch ironed out in the top of the first (the audio was a second ahead of the video for the start of the game), just in time for Rhodes, in Mets uni, to sail through the lineup.
Increased Dimensions
Rhodes isn't the only one to get a change in his program measurables. Here are recent height/weight alterations for 11 other Jets on the training camp roster:
| Player | Old Ht | Old Wt | New Ht | New Wt |
| WR David Ball | 6'0" | 197 | 6'1" | 200 |

Tom Spicer Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 7:55am ET"The Jets need a make a play for Favre he is one of the best QB'S ever & he can still play. With the trades of Robertson & Vilma we have 9 or 10 draft picks next year so we have the tools to get him & it will not hurt us. Clemens & Ainge can learn from one of the best QB'S ever for 2 years & than they can have there shot CHAD IS DONE FORGET ABOUT HIM ! Coles & Jerrico will have career years cause "
Tom Spicer Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 8:04am ET"now teams wont know on ever play that they are not going deep we will finally see what our WR'S can do Our running game will be great teams will have to respect the deep ball & Favre can still make ever throw. With Favre at least we would make the 2nd round of the playoffs & that is worst case possibly we could win the whole thing depending on the D cause I know for a fact the O would be great"
Larry Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 1:28pm ET"Tom Spicer. Agree 120%. With Favre we go to the Super Bowl in 3 years guaranteed. Trade a combination of Pennington/draft picks/other players/$ . We need QB of this calber even for the short term to let our younger players mature and develop. They would be absolutely insane not to make an aggressive play for Favre. But then again........."
Ira Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 2:42pm ET"Everybody forget about Favre. Don't need him for 1 year and gone. That would go completely against what they are trying to do here. The Jets are set for a shot to make the playoffs. I don't want to have fun watching him for this season and then he retires. Montana, Unitas and Namath all tried to play for another team and it didn't work. Let Favre go to the Bucs or Panthers."
Larry Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 4:33pm ET"Ira,whats the deal? It wouldnt be fun to have someone who could realistically take us all the way? Who says it would be for just 1 year? What are they trying to do here? A 9 year vet who didnt play any better than our rookie, who though I have faith may be the future, may or may not be ready yet? I think it would be fun as hell to have all the pieces of the puzzle for the 1st time in 38 years!!!"
Ira Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 10:10pm ET"Guys come on now. Farve wil be 42 years old in 3 years. Don't think he will be taking any team to the SB by then. Second he will be 39 years old by week 5 this year. Anybody who thinks investing the type of money he gets or will want for a QB that age is not looking for the future. And what happens if he changes his mind half way through the year? Once again thanks but no thanks."
Howard Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 10:19pm ET"kerry showing he works harder in the off season then during the season.......this man should not just be a pro bowler but also an all pro player this year.lets get these rooks signed and get training camp going just cant wait"
Dunnie Said:
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 10:34pm ET"I agree with IRA ... as tempting as it is to grab Favre. He is and will always be a Packer ... no matter where he plays next year. I don't want him. I'd rather see Ainge play. lol. I would not mind if we took on Leftwich as a backup or something along those lines. I bet anything we draft a QB next year."
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 7:51am ET"Ira, if we get Favre we are not looking toward the future that is a good point if Favre was not a guy who could make us win now & if it was coming from someone who was not such a big Chad backer are you telling us starting Chad is looking toward the future I think not. I say make a move for Favre or start the kid as a matter of fact if they start Kellen & he flops I would rather have them start "
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 8:15am ET"Ainge or draft someone new than go back to the same old stuff with Chad. I really feel we will never win the big one with him as our QB it is time to turn the page on Chad it really is he is done. I am tired of watching him throw ducks that get our WR'S hammered waiting for the ball or the INT'S that he throws right to the other team that get brought back to the house. He can not even throw an out"
MikeMc Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 10:17am ET"Thank you Ira, What is the Farve fascination? He's not all that. Grasping at straws will not get us to the promised land. Hard work, good drafts and common sense free agents (not old men) that don't cost us big and are nowhere to be found in a year. Tom I'm suprised you want Farve, I can understand wanting another QB, but think past this year, it would be a panic move if Tangini even explored it"
Brian B Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 11:29am ET"The Mets suck... Yankees are the team in NY. (DECLINEED: VULGARITY (SUCK))"
Pete Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 1:51pm ET"Have to agree with Spicer. I want to see KC start to see what we are working with. If we are going to go with Chad, I'd much rather see a real gun slinger back there as neither QB has anything to do with our future. However, I say let's see the kids we drafted! We need to know what to do next year. Haven't lost faith in KC yet."
Drew Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 3:00pm ET"Favre is not comning here but I would take him for a year or two. People forget how bad the Packers were supposed to be last year. He played his mind out with no running game for the 1st 3 weeks and took them to one play of the SB....I know we trying to build something here Ira but if Clemens fails we are in big trouble. It all depends on if he can lead this team."
Ira Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 4:30pm ET"Is anybody here willing to pay him what he wants plus give up some draft choices. I can't see giving up a 2nd rd pick for a 39 yr old QB who has a change of heart about playing the game 2 weeks before camps open. Trust me what ever team he ends up with if they are not winning or things are not going right for him he will be 2nd guessing himself and quit again after next year."
Ira Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 4:36pm ET"And if they were to sign Favre then they have to cut Chad and take that big cap hit plus take on Favre's money. This makes no sense. If Chad beats out Kellen then good for Chad. That doesn't mean Kellen is not the future. He will be 25 years old when the season starts. Bottom line is this team can win with either QB. GO JETS!!!!"
Dunnie Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 5:09pm ET"This year is not a make or break year for us. We are a year away from being real contenders. I look it as the year we find out what we need to do in order to become one of the elite teams next year. We need to find out if we should ditch KC along with Chad next year. Oh well ... bring on the pre-season."
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 7:15pm ET"MikeMC, You said Favre aint all that I wont even bring up his career numbers cause you will say it was a long time ago. Last year 4,000 yards 28 TD'S HE IS ALL THAT ! & if the Jets did get him it would mean the want to win now ! our WR'S would have 1,000 yards & 10 TD'S each they have that type of skill but we will never see it cause we do not have an all pro QB. T Jones rushed for 1,100 yards "
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 7:19pm ET"last year with no O line for the Bears he rushed for 1,300 yards with a good O Line which is what I think he will do this year for us. But with Favre he would rush for at least 1,500 mabye 1,600 yards Favre would make everyone better "
Ira Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 7:49pm ET"Drew, Don't worry about Kellen failing. Lets see how it all plays out. Remember they also drafted Ainge for a reason. Time will tell. Best thing is camp is 11 days away. Can't wait to watch some sports again. GO JETS!!!!"
tom hannel Said:
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 8:59pm ET"i think if bret favr is traded the jets have to go for him he still has atleast 1 or 2 years left in him and he could teach kellen so mutch they have to get him so the dolphins dont get too."
Ira Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 8:24am ET"So the circus has already started in Grenn Bay with the fans. They better trade him to Tampa before camp opens."
MikeMc Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 9:24am ET"Tom, I agree Farve is a hall of famer and you make some good points, if the man was 30 or even 32 I would sign on. His great season last year followed a poor one and he played in the most home field friendly place on earth, the meadowlands are not that. The win or two extra he may bring to the table may not be worth the price $12+ mill& draft pick(s), the soap opera& media fascination .Just say no."
MikeMc Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 9:38am ET"I have come to the realization that many fans don't care how they win as long as they win, if they could have Marino, Kelly,or Brady they would be thrilled. I root for the laundry (seinfeld) also, but guys I despised for years wearing my beloved Jet uniform takes alot of getting used to, of course this only applies to the big Jet killers. I want to win with the guys we developed (QB's)not rentals."
TAt Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 9:50am ET"I know this has nothing to do with the Article but the Jets should make a run af Favre if he is released. IT would be utterly ridiculous if we decided to count that out with the QB situation we have. I would take Favre of Pennington any day of the week. Sorry Chad. I'm a die hard Jet Fan but that would be way tooo retarded to count out. The guy brought his team to the NFC Championship last year"
MikeMc Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 11:48am ET"to quote a great american,Clark Griswald " I think your all @$*%#@ in the head , we're 10 hours from the fun park " Camp is around the corner and this Farve stuff has to stop, he said his job is not to teach the back-ups, he has no value to us except as a 1 year stop-gap, distraction machine. If greenbay doesn't want him what is that telling you? Let Miami have him, we have to think long term ."
Ira Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 12:45pm ET"Here is a prediction if the Packers don't trade Favre before camp opens they will close practices to the public until the problem gets resolved. This is a nightmare and i for one would not want to be coaching a practice while the fans are protesting to keep Favre. The players will not be able to focus at all. And if i were Gruden i would want him in Tampa as soon as possible."
ScottinAfghanistan Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 2:31pm ET"Stop with the Chad bashing, guys. He's the most accurate passer in NFL history. He can get the job done. I'll support whoever wins the QB competition. I've seen Chad when he is good, though, and I'd like some more of that."
Row Said:
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 3:29pm ET"You guys also have to remember Favre had 15 pic's including a few game changing ones in the playoffs, and 9 fumbles last year. Favre is not the Jets and should not be talked about on the forum. Thanks Kerry for the 5 picks, you should be the D's captain. For the record, Montana took the Chiefs to the AFC championship game in 1993 to get knocked out, literally. IMO, the Chiefs would have won. "

Tue, July 15, 2008 - 8:45am ET"I for one love farve but the jets will never pick him up they need to find out whos gonna be the futher of the organization the defence is gonna be great one more talented corner and you have an elit d' on paper. But lets be honest here we have two QBs that only if we some how mold them together we have real full QB so next year we have to draft a first round high caliber player maybe tim tebow from florida other then that maybe a tall talented wr "like" plaxico and you have a team that can beat newengland and thats where we need to start. Lokking foward to 08 bradys going downnnn!"
