File Under: Adam Schein, Chris Baker, Brian Schottenheimer, Jeremy Shockey, Eric Parker

06/25 — This is the silly time of the year, when football writers and electronic personalities have no raw meat, no fresh input to sell to their customers. And so they make up trades.

Nothing wrong with this. It's what fans do every day of the week, even in summer, from the bars to the rec rooms to the water coolers. (Do folks still gather around water coolers in offices anymore? Just asking.)

Here are two scenarios offered up by respectable media outlets in the last day or two. I present them to you without prejudice, to generate comment from you Radar operators out there who aren't on vacation yet. And I will give full credit to either writer if his trade comes true.

To be fair to SNY Loudmouth and Jets insider Adam Schein, he's not predicting trades in his Foxsports.com think piece, only declaring that he sees "nine off-season moves that must be made." And one of them involves the Jets.

Schein reflects on reports from the Left Coast that Chargers WR Eric Parker will be traded before training camp. His assertion: that Parker fits in New York with the Jets.

"Remember, Parker was with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer when the Jets OC was coaching in San Diego. New York needs a third receiver behind Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles. Brad Smith is currently that option, and he still has a ways to go as a receiver."

Schein's conclusion: Parker is worth a late-day-two draft pick from the Jets.

Then from out of left field, J.P. Pelzman, my able successor on the Jets beat, dissects an impossible trade between stadium mates in today's Bergen Record. Pelz sees a disgruntled Jets tight end in Chris Baker and a disgruntled Giants TE in Jeremy Shockey. And you can see this one coming down Route 17 and heading for the Meadowlands.

"What would happen if the Jets and Giants swapped unhappy tight ends?" he writes.

Actually, Pelzman concludes, such a deal probably wouldn't work. "But that doesn't make speculating about it any less fun."

Any thoughts on these trades or others, Green & White fans, before you head off for your theme parks and your margaritas?

Hicks Makes the Hall

Congratulations to DL Eric Hicks, who spent nine seasons in Chiefs red and contributed to last year's Jets effort — he was inducted Tuesday night into the Erie chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

"I had 10 great years," Hicks said in today's Erie Times-News. "I started over 100 games and played in almost 140, so I came a long way from 'little Erie,' as people always say, all the way to the highest level of competition in the world. It was exciting."

"Bottom line is that KC has way more upside than Chad: Every QB struggles within their first few seasons all the greats alike. No one has given KC any type of learning curve. The guy can make any throw that is desired at this level and as much as I like Chad every team in the league questions his arm strength which results in 8 man fronts which in turn impacts the running game. You gotta go with KC"
