File Under: preseason games, Jim Zorn, Cleveland Washington Giants Eagles
05/07 — The schedule process is complete with the NFL announcing on Tuesday the final dates and kickoff times for virtually all of the 65 preseason games.
For Jets fans, there are no big surprises. They will get their summer slate started by rocking and rolling at Cleveland in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Aug. 7. Then come their two home preseason games, against Washington and new head coach Jim Zorn and against the Super Bowl champion Giants.
Perhaps it means nothing, but when Zorn was Seattle’s starting quarterback, the Jets were 0-6 vs. the Seahawks from 1977-83.
The only thing worth noting is the early 6:30 p.m. start time for the finale at Philly, which is likely to give head coach Eric Mangini and his staff a quicker than usual head start on finalizing the final cut to 53 players. In the seven previous Jets-Eagles final preseason games from 2001-07, the start times were either 7 or 7:30.
It’s not much, but it’s something.
Here’s the Jets’ firmed-up preseason schedule along with their all-time preseason record against each opponent:
| Date | Opponent | Time | Jets' Rec. |
| Thursday, Aug. 7 | at Cleveland | 7:30 p.m. | 1-0 |
| Saturday, Aug. 16 | vs. WASHINGTON | 7 p.m. | 4-3 |
| Saturday, Aug. 23 | vs. GIANTS | 7 p.m. | 20-18-1 |
| Thursday, Aug. 28 | at Philadelphia | 6:30 p.m. | 18-11 |

Wed, May 7, 1:38pm EST"Looked at the roster page. 82 players listed, only 80 allowed. Wade Smith is still on the page, but signed with another team. Pitoitua is on the roster, but not mentioned in the Transactions section. We hear all about the Jets attention to detail. Maybe this is an exception?"
Randy Lange Said:
Wed, May 7, 2:56pm EST"Ropati Pitoitua is correctly listed as a signed undrafted free agent. Wade Smith, an unrestricted FA who signed with Kansas City, and Marques Tuiasosopo, a UFA who has not signed with another team, have been removed. The Website roster is now correctly at 80 players."
JOHNNYJET Said:

CEDRIC Said:
Wed, May 7, 2:36pm EST"IRA its a preseason game, it doesnt matter, it doesnt even have a big physically effect on the team, it OHIO, not that far. And it may help by actually symbolizing the fact they will have to be travel demons for the 08 season."
Dunnie Said:
Wed, May 7, 3:33pm EST"Well ... its a short flight (cle)... I'm assuming they are flying. This pre-season should be fun to watch this year because of all the moves. We shall see ... now we get to wait until late July ... I am tempted to not even read the Radar until then .. haha. But I think that is listed a cardinal sin in my religion. ;-). Gotta be tough covering football in May/June and most of July."
Jim Said:
Wed, May 7, 7:33pm EST"Keller is gonna make Chad look like that guy in indy. The defense will look quite respectable for a change. If special teams can look about 90% of what they've been, we're looking at the playoffs."
kimosabe Said:
Wed, May 7, 8:45pm EST" Even though they have yet to take the field, the bits & pieces that have been added to fill this 80 player roster( including coaches ) makes me very confident for the upcoming season. I think our JETS jets jets will make a statement !!!"
EYEH8DAPATS Said:
Thu, May 8, 1:40am EST"I cannot wait for the start of the season. The Jets are looking at a great season ahead of them. Brake out the brooms sweep the pats and the season will be a smashing success. Enforce the Jets will on every opponent this year and you shall rule the games! J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS! BEAT THEM patriots!"
dave h Said:
Thu, May 8, 5:39am EST"while i agree the best players should play, i hope they dont go to the last day to announce the starting qb, i still support kellen over chad, he does deserve a fair chance, all last preseason he didnt work out much if any with the first squad, and then put in to replace chad behind a oline that no qb could have done well with. i dont want to see him replaced again, bad for him and team. "
NYJ Benz 10 Said:
Thu, May 8, 8:28am EST"If Chad starts we go 11-5 or 10-6. If Clemens starts we go 8-8 at best. PLEASE START CHAD SO WE CAN WIN AND GO TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!"
Damone Said:
Thu, May 8, 9:38am EST"STOP judging Chad and Kellen because they will both look better behind a better O-line.Just let the summertime battle play out and we shall see.....but i will tell you this.....IF Kellen can calm down and show better accuracy,he will win the starting job because he has the stronger arm.In our type of offense, accuracy is more important. If Kellen shows both then we have a HECK of a QB on our hands!"
HDR Said:
Thu, May 8, 9:41am EST"I really hope they start KC,.His arm is like steriods for our offense. I love Chad P, but after 4yrs of dink and dunk I think we need to at least explore the option of being able to strech the field. It will also help our running game as DB will not be able to crunch the L-O-S. Anyone noticed how our running game picked up after KC started? He's Manginis' QB, A 2nd rounder. Just protect him= 11-5"
Nic Said:
Thu, May 8, 10:12am EST"Forget about both of these QB's! Chad used to be good but has sustained way too many injuries over the course his career, and his arm is probably the weakest of any starting QB in the NFL. And Clemens, bad O-Line or not, last season he didn't look like he had any potential at all. Sorry to say, until we address our QB situation we're not going to make it past the Wild Card round."
oldtimegreen Said:
Thu, May 8, 11:37am EST"Tsk, tsk. And to think, we had all but nearly forgotten that late '70s early '80s era. Our pre-season holds fast to recent tea and crumpets' scheduling. A quick trip to the only U.S. state that boasts a burgee as its state flag, pair of home games, and down and up the NJ Turnpike in a game where regulars disappear. "
Damone Said:
Thu, May 8, 12:10pm EST"I hope Ainge turns out to be better than both of them!!"
Row Said:
Thu, May 8, 2:33pm EST"Just to throw this out there, Baker caught 41 balls last year. Which makes me think it was not a good idea to draft a TE in the first round. How many double tight sets did we see last year? none. I just see a lot of good players that don't fit what we tried to do last year. I really hope this thing gets together b/c I see a disaster waiting on offense! "
Ira Said:
Thu, May 8, 2:43pm EST"oldtime, You're right about years ago. I remember when they played preseason games around the country in college towns and stadiums. How about 1965 vs the Bills in New Brunswick a 30-14 loss and 1964 in Kingston, PA a 19-17 win vs the Bills."
Denzil Said:
Thu, May 8, 3:33pm EST"Row, forget about Baker! If Tangini are not concerned about him then we shouldn't be either. Obviously, he isn't that good or else they would have restructured his contract already. He's an average TE, nothing more. Dustin Keller will be the starter next season and he will excel immediately, you heard it right here."
Pete Said:
Thu, May 8, 7:07pm EST"How can so many people rule out KC based on his performance last year? Didn't aybody learn from Eli and Brees? I am not saying KC is the man, but nobody can say he isn't based on what you all saw. Conversely, anybody that has ever played a down of organized football in their life can see that Chad can't throw hard and he keeps getting his WR's killed. "
Pete Said:
Thu, May 8, 7:10pm EST"I asked this a while back, but Randy, how did CP's YAC compare with the rest of the league. Without any research, I would assume he is at the bottom of the list as he can't hit receivers in stride due to his slow floating ball. The receivers stop, wait, catch, and get hit really hard. I still think CP is worth his salary to tudor the young guys as he is still one of the best leaders in the game."
Pete Said:
Thu, May 8, 7:15pm EST"Keller will not be the starting TE as he wasn't drafted to be the starting TE. He will line up as an H-back or in the slot to create match up problems along with Baker or Franks. You're right Row, we didn't see many double TE sets last year and we didn't even dress our FB although our O-line was awful. I hope Mangini learned from this as he did pick up a FB and 2 TE's. Dare to dream."
