File Under: 2008 NFL Draft, Day Two, Gholston Keller
04/27 — We’re about a half an hour out from the commencement of Day Two of the 2008 NFL Draft. The Jets, who selected Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston (No. 6 overall) and Purdue TE Dustin Keller (No. 30 overall) on Day One, could be in for a little wait before they pick again.
Miami will kick off this morning’s festivities with the first selection of the second round — No. 64 overall. The Jets won’t be on the clock again until the fourth round some 38 selections later. They also own picks in the sixth round, No. 171, and seventh round, No. 111.
The Green & White sent their third and fifth round choices to Carolina in exchange for NT Kris Jenkins, so consider that part of the package when you’re making your final grades.

Hes got good speed, and if he can stay helathy, can potentialy be another Cotchery type player. "

Drew Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:09am ET"The Pats just drafted S Crable. They are loading up on LB's. I really like Crable and he will play well for that team.....For all the Gholsten haters the Patriots traded out of 7 and then reached for Mayo at 10. They were dying to get Gholsten.....Also for all of the Keller doubters there was a reason the WR's fell they were all overrated. D Keller will create major matchup problems"

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:11am ET"Manningham is sliding if he falls to the Jets they should grab him. This is a low risk pick at this point Pot issues and all."

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:15am ET"Getting Gholston at number 6 was the perfect pick for our D. For Keller, I agree that we did not get him to be a tight end, but a powerful Wide Receiver. This is the guy,you pass to up the middle or down the field who has great hands and can go pad to pad after the catch - not a blocking tight end. We have Stuckey if healthy...but if we get no WR this draft then we need to get Chad Johnson. "
CEDRIC Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:17am ET"I havent given up on Stuckey yet, our WR corp can be beefed up, but a back up FB with the last pick we have so Richardson can groom him. I just wanna see who we target in the 4th...because 6th and 7th are gonna play special teams anyway."

And GREAT pick with gholston, finally pressure on the qb which equals turnovers. Hopefully we add a db and or dept at ol and qb....Lets close this gap damn it!!!!!!"
CEDRIC Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:21am ET"Crable is a pass rusher with a hot head, subject to penalty, he can get Blown up if he faces a blocker, we will see how well he gets coached up, bcuz physically he cant match up to Gholston by comparsion."

I would say Caldwell, but his brother dropped a BIG pass in the playoffs against the colt a few years back lol!1"

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:03pm ET"Guys its all about character,No Chad Johnson no Manningham no Mcfadden no Aqib. We are not just building a stellar team we are building leaders in the lockerroom. When will everyone believe Tangini when they say Character, hard working selfless players. If they don't fit we must omit !!"

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:41pm ET"and who was the qb all thoese years , it was chad ..... the man has shown if u keep him off the grass he can get it done , tom brady coulnt have played behind that line last year .....and clements just needs to sit a few more years and learn"
Kevin O Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:03pm ET"Just to let the staff know, a very good Tackle sits in waiting. Barry Richardson of Clemson is available. Go get 'em. great backup to Damien Woody. "
Jay Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:07pm ET"With Stuckey and Smith improving, Keller being a matchup nightmare, we have no major gaps (although I think we were targeting cb Justin King before we traded down). Would love Brennan in the 5th. A nice accurate west coast qb to replace Chad within 1-2 seasons. Watch the type, the kid has enough arm for the seam and the far hash out route. Worst case, accurate capable backup in 5th round."
Ray Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:20pm ET"Hey someone call Jim, "Boston" just drafted Zartans qb so the Jets couldn't get him!!! MikeMc I agree they are looking for character too, but as you saw with the Pats last year, character takes a back seat to talent and need. We would have very likely taken McFadden if he were there. And the Bengals are on drugs with what they want for Chad, or we might have been interested."

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:51pm ET"chad is a good qb but hes not a threat to anyones secondary, kellen will get r done, we cant judge him fairly on last season. Im liking the picks made they make sense, at least on paper. "
Drew Said:
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 3:18pm ET"Crable is a big fast LB. Big Motor not very fluid id coverage. He can get to the QB and has alot of speed. I saw him as better prospect than Hobsen. "

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:06pm ET"DREW, your like 14 posts too late on the Info on Crable, I kinda had you beat lol, its cool though. Randy, Does Tangini have to do an after Draft Press conference?"
Randy Lange Said:
"Yes, Cedric, we expect Mike Tannenbaum to hold a draft wrapup news conference imminently."

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 2:44pm ET"I think the jets have found a diamond in the rough by taking Division II - NCAA All-Time Rushing Leader Danny Woodhead. This guy will be the new Dave Meggett. I feel sorry for all those teams that passed on him! J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!"
Row Said:
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:19pm ET"I still feel Keller was a reach, why didn't we get Martin Rucker in the third and keep our other picks? He is a better TE anyway. This draft made no sense. We drafted a corner that might be okay on special teams, and a WR that probably won't make the team. I really feel Mangini blew it this time. I don't mind the Gholston pick, but he doesn't really fit our system. I expected us to get Vernon."
Shannon Davis Said:
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 1:48pm ET"When are we going to hear about the rookie free agents. I hear the Jets signed a tough back that went to Michigan State and started his football career at a small rural D school in Clymer, NY. Sounds like an interesting story. Maybe EA could tell us a little more about him and his chances of making the roster."

Picks are like gold & again we squander picks. We only had 4 picks last year & 5 picks this year.Need to bring as many picks to camp stacking OL and DL for competition.Don't think Tangini know what their doing."
