File Under: mangini, Darrelle Revis, Sean Gilbert, Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan, NFL meetings

03/28 — Did somebody say anything about an off-season? There’s a lot going on here in late March as the countdown to draft weekend reaches four weeks. So let’s get to it

Revis Unflappable

Darrelle Revis stopped by the office this week and we discussed the defensive backfield for a Review/Preview feature on the site. At just 22 years of age, the corner is one of the more insightful and composed second-year players I’ve ever been around.

Looking back, Revis gave himself an average grade for his rookie campaign. He also talked about how honest his Uncle Sean can get be at times when assessing his talented nephew.

“He tells me I stink. That’s what it is,” said Revis of Sean Gilbert, the former first-round pick of the Rams in 1992. “He just wants me to be the best I can be, the best cornerback I can be. For me to be that, I have to make the plays and do what I have to do. I love my uncle and he loves me. Right after the games, he would call me and say, ‘You did OK today but … ' He just wants me to be the best.”

You don’t want your DBs thin-skinned, and Revis is anything but.

“People say Coach Mangini is a little tough, but my uncle is in the same category. So I get it from Mangini and then I hear it from my uncle, too,” he said. “But that’s just how I grew up.”

Jets Have Ryan on the Move

Boston College QB Matt Ryan is currently penning a diary on FOXSports.com. His third installment (as told to Jay Glazer) is a must-read for a Jets fan. Beyond praising Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer, Ryan went into detail about his individual workout with the Green & White.

“The difference between the Jets workout and the Pro Day was the Jets wanted me to make throws and reads within their schemes,” he said. “They wanted to see first-hand what balls I can throw from within their offense. They especially wanted to see my footwork in the pocket and had me make several throws on the move. They wanted to see where I could put the ball when I was forced to move out of the pocket.”

That’s just a portion of the diary. If you haven’t seen it yet, we suggest you take a look-see.

Reports: Coles, Jets Have Agreement

The Jets and WR Laveranues Coles have reached an agreement on his contract. That news has been reported in today's New York Post and on ESPN, kffl.com and other outlets. Coles, who joined the team's off-season strength and conditioning program on Monday, will be entering his ninth NFL season and his seventh with the Jets.

Dorsey Works Out

After not attending the Senior Bowl or participating in workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine, LSU DT Glenn Dorsey finally got after it at his pro day. The 6’1”, 297-pounder, who would probably fit best in a 4-3 front, participated in all sorts of drills in front of NFL personnel.

The 6’1”, 297-pounder was said to have looked svelte and was timed in the 40-yard dash at 5.13 and 5.15. He also did 27 reps on the bench.

"I feel great," he said. "I feel like I came out and did well today, I gave it my all. They wanted to see what I had."

Dorsey insists his past injuries are behind him and he is ready to start his pro career. Despite not being fully healthy at any point last year and facing double- and triple-teams every down, he still finished with seven sacks and 12.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage.

On Tap: League Meetings

NFL meetings will commence Monday down in Palm Beach, Fla. As a result of Spygate, we’ll see if a new rule is enacted that allows designated defensive players to receive signals from the sidelines through radios in their helmets.

And will the league change its playoff seeding format? We’d like to see a wild-card team rewarded with a home playoff game if it has a better record than a divisional winner it’s scheduled to face.

There has also been some talk about eliminating the forceout rule and the 5-yard "incidental facemask" penalty. The forceout change would make things easier for officials, but having an automatic 15-yard penalty for a facemask (no matter the severity of the grab) seems a little much if the same 5-yard penalties will now become 15 yards.

The Schedule

Anybody else excited to see that baby released? The Jets have four West Coast trips in ‘08 (Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle), so we’re intrigued how the league is going to position the Green & White. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait on this for a couple of weeks for the full slate.

"Chad had his first "Bad" season last year, And KC did no better then him. How about letting KC step in at QB with a real offensive line this year. Where he wont be rushed out of the pocket every other play. And where leon and jones will get more then 2yards for him on 1st down. Let him play a season where the deffense isnt horrible the 1st 8games so he dosnt play from behind every week."

"And let chad be a mentor to the KC with everything intact. No matter what you say chad has been a smart QB. He had a bad season last season with no running game. Not to mention the line letting him get hit everytime he had the ball. Before that chad was a smart qb who made few mistakes. kept us in games. Made 0 mistakes in the redzone when you have a chance of getting points. "

"If we get one of these WRs n they end up being anything like D Bowe for the cheifs We'd be set at WR with 3solid WRs n KC who has a strong arm n an O Line now. Otherwise take Mcfadden hands down. n let T RIch plow the way like he did for Peterson. Either way i think the jets are going back to a 10-6 team like in 06. If our FAs live up 2 expectations w/ solid Run n Pass Blocking.N solid run Dfense"
