03/13 — Let’s take a break from free agency for a minute (even if the Jets are still exploring all their options) and use this space to discuss the upcoming draft. As pro day numbers continue to file in, I’m thinking Jets Nation must be pretty happy about their position in the draft.
There are six prospects on top of most prognosticators’ boards and the Jets own the sixth overall selection. That means at least one of this elite group — LSU DT Glenn Dorsey, Ohio State DE/OLB Vernon Gholston, Virginia DE/OLB Chris Long, Michigan T Jake Long, Arkansas RB Darren McFadden and Boston College QB Matt Ryan — will be on the board if the Green & White choose to keep their pick.
Wall Street might be a mess but Gholston’s living in a bull market. He followed up an impressive showing in Indy with an excellent pro day, racing to a 4.58 in the 40 (almost a 10th of a second faster than his combine performance) and then most reports had him posting a 42-inch vertical (six inches better than February’s measurement).
"A lot of the times I saw [coming out of Indy] were around the 4.6 range, and I know I wasn't in that range — 4.5 was what I wanted to push for," Gholston said. "It was going out there and showing that I can do that."
And he ran well despite slowing down the last 20 yards after feeling a twinge in the hammy. Some people complain that Gholston is too stiff, but the reality is he’s a 6’4”, 258-pound muscular wonder. Here’s a kid who played high school football for only two years, lives in the weight room and has racked up 22½ sacks the past two seasons. He’s the prototypical 3-4 OLB.
Michigan is hosing its pro day Thursday, so we’ll soon read about Jake Long’s effort. The Jets signed Damien Woody to play RT, so they don’t enter the draft with a hole at the position.
Then the Green & White will do their due diligence after St. Patty’s Day and watch Matt Ryan sling it around in Beantown. You just can’t predict what will happen with signalcallers — remember how we watched Brady Quinn drop last year before Commissioner Goodell invited the youngster to his suite.
Let’s be clear here with Ryan and this goes with any quarterback. If a team determines a passer to be special, then he would be hard to pass up no matter what your current situation. But most likely Ryan will go before six and the Jets can win with their current QB crop. The line’s better already and whoever — CP or KC — is in command of the huddle will have a better chance to succeed.
On that same day, Chris Long will host scouts at UVa. The ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year registered 14 sacks last season, playing in a collegiate system that mirrors the Jets’ system more than most. He could be very effective as an OLB in a 3-4 and will execute linebacker drills at his pro day.
A week after Ryan and C.Long, our eyes turn to Arkansas on the 25th and "Run DMC." Fans and pundits seem to be split on McFadden, a guy who torched the RCA Dome's synthetic field with an unofficial 4.27-second 40. The 6’2”, 210-pounder rushed for a school-record 1,830 yards in '07 and joined Herschel Walker as the only two players in Southeastern Conference history to rush for over 1,000 yards as freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
The Jets are more than stable at RB with not only Thomas Jones and Leon Washington to carry the pill but three huge blocking additions in Woody and two Pro Bowlers — LG Alan Faneca and FB Tony Richardson.
A name who’s lost luster of late has been LSU DT Glenn Dorsey. The Bayou Bengals host their pro day March 26 and Dorsey, who in ’07 captured the Nagurski, Lombardi and Lott awards in addition to the Outland Trophy, will be closely scrutinized. He played through nagging injuries during his team’s national championship season and didn’t take part in combine drills after his grandmother passed away.
After acquiring NT Kris Jenkins from the Carolina Panthers, the Jets already have their prototypical 3-4 nose. Dorsey probably is best suited to play in a 4-3 but also could move to end in a 3-4 front.
With the way Tangini struck in free agency, the Jets will enter April in an envious position. They don’t have a glaring need and one or two of the top six will still be on the board when the Commish puts the Green & White on the clock.
The possibilities are endless but that’s what makes this time of year fun. Imagine Gholston and McFadden on the board and Jerry Jones is calling Mike. T, offering the Cowboys' two first-round picks — Nos. 22 and 28 — and, say, a second or a starter to move up.
It’s early yet but what do you think happens and what do you hope happens? I think with this sixth selection, the Jets hold a key trump card in the entire draft. And please remember that Real Football will keep newyorkjets.com updated throughout the spring on pro day happenings.

Thu, March 13, 2008 - 4:03pm EST"Randy I would love to see the jets make that trade for nos.22 and 28 because after last years draft I didn't feel we added enough depth at many positions so by having 2 mid-late first rounders and an early 2nd I do believe we could add some much needed depth at WR and in the secondary"
Ira Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 4:06pm EST"Eric, Good article and you're right on the money about the position the Jets are in at #6 for now. Thats why their FA plan seems to have worked so well. If Chris Long falls to them or if he gets past the Fish maybe Mr. T does what he did with Revis and Harris last year and go trade up for him. Anything is possible. I will stick with my early prediction that they trade down. GO JETS!!!!!"

Thu, March 13, 2008 - 4:07pm EST"Great article Eric. Draft Day (witch is my B-DAY this year) is going to be great. I will be here at work so I will be dependant on you guys to keep me updated. I'm in good hands."
Larry Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 4:23pm EST"With the good job getting talent theyve done so far it would be a mistake NOT to take a QB if they can get one that fits. They are finally getting a balance of experienced guys with some years left, and younger players with much promise. This will give them more options concerning CP. He does not have the total package that is needed in the NFL today. Limitations, predictability have finished him."
Frank Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 4:29pm EST"I still say draft Gohlston but trade down with Jones if McFadden is there. We get 2 number 1's and Marion Barber for our #6 and T Jones. I love Marion Barber."
Tony P Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 5:25pm EST"If we still have D-Rob by draft day, I think we should trade #6 and D-Rob to Dallas for their two 1st rounders and DE Chris Canty. I remember him being a force in some of the Dallas games I saw in '07."
Steven Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 5:26pm EST"That would be a dream for us....but there's no way the Cowboys will let go of Barber"
Rob Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 5:32pm EST"Hey Randy how come no one is talking about a receiver, if none of the DE are available at 6, I would rather get a big receiver."
John Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 5:52pm EST"I agree with Frank 100% concerning Gholston and McFadden. As for taking a QB - it would be a HUGE MISTAKE (sorry Larry) to draft a QB in the first round. Why would you spend another high pick when we still don't really know what KC offers. The QB crop is deep this year, if they really want another QB then wait until the third or fourth round. "
john Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 6:00pm EST"never trade thomas jones you would have to be nuts ran for a 1,000 plus with the wrost offense of line in the nfl watch what he does with this new o line and def draft and DE prob gohlston"
zartan Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 6:39pm EST"i just watched Joe Flacco on youtube and he absolutly has to be the jets 2nd rd pick. Chads a good insurance and Clemens will always be average at best.i think Parcells will still him with his but i hope hes there and we take him.Back me on this one Jet fans, or its not going to happen.we get him and ill be at peace no matter what other moves they do.5-6 good players after 3rd round."
Steve Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 6:48pm EST"I also think we could use some WR help. With coles unhappy and no big guy we would be smart to trade our pick and drop a little and still be able to grab a big time WR"
Frank Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 6:55pm EST"John, Barber is 6 years younger a better runner and very physical he would be a great pickup. You never take a receiver in the top half of the draft there are several receivers that can be taken in the bottom of the first and I have said several times to draft M. Kelly he is big 6'4" and has the best hands in the draft which is what you need for those corner fades. Clemens will suprise this year."
lawrence Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 6:58pm EST"Gholston or mcfadden awill make me happy"
Frank Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:02pm EST"As for Chad he has to go. I don't care who is blocking the NFL has caught onto Chad they will stack 8-9 in the box and we will be in a street fight every game. He has never been a pro bowler he was a little above average at best. Personally I am sick and tired of watching that type of game. I want a QB who can throw and Clemens showed he has a cannon. No QB controversies trade him now!"
Frank Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:05pm EST"All this nonsense about Dorsey and his health sounds like A. Peterson last year. Think there a few teams that realize how stupid they were for not drafting him. Dorsey did not miss any games and played like a beast. We don't need him but I would be shocked if he doesn't go top 5. "
Ira Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:27pm EST"If the Jets can get Flacco in the 2nd rd it would be a steal. It sure sounds like the Jets are really going after Ty Law. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with them. Once the D-Rob deal goes down then the Jets will make 2 strikes. Law and Utecht. GO JETS!!!!!"
Pete Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:36pm EST"Just wanted to say thanks to Frank for not being blinded by the spending frenzy and for making me feel less crazy. I bleed green and hope the moves work, but I am sceptical. The Vilma trade will stick with me like drafting Blair Thomas. For anyone that wants Ty Law, did you watch him play here? Yeah he got his picks, but he was out of shape and played lazy. Only came here b/c of Herm's easy camp."
scjoe Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:43pm EST"I happen to believe both McFadden and Gholston will be off the boards when the Jets pick at six. I hope I am wrong, I would be happy with either one. But what I wonder about most, is how Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis would fit as a DE in the 3/4 Both are similar in size to Seymor and one of them could be there if both McFadden and Gholston are gone."
Mathew Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:47pm EST"Trading down isnt something smart right here. If vernon gholston or mcfadden are available, then they should go with one of them. TRADING DOWN WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH!!! only if they get a CB and a WR with the two first round draft picks. if for some crazy reason, the jets make the trade with the cowboys, i at least hope they draft a DE in the 2nd round. if u dont go for gholston though..its upset"
Jeremy Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 7:56pm EST"If anything was learned from the G-Men's success is that Pass Rushers make a HUGE difference. Anytime you can pressure the QB things open up for your Defense to get sacks, fumbles, picks, and disrupt the playcalling. Gholston with Pace & Harris would be unbelieveable. JETS have to go out and get quick DE/LB's to get pressure on QB's. The JETS could barely manage a sack a game last year!"
Jeremy Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 8:00pm EST"How many sacks did the JETS have last year? If you don't pressure the QB I don't care who you have in the secondary any QB with time will find an open receiver. We don't need a QB. Brady & Manning wouldn't have had success with the JETS O LINE last year. Look how many rushing TD's we had TJ had 1. One Rushing TD and he went for over 1,000 yards. That just shows you how bad the O Line was!"
tom hannel Said:

Thu, March 13, 2008 - 9:24pm EST"Maybe we should keep our 6 pick, trade 3 late picks, d-rob, and somone else to someone like tampa and draft Gholston and DeSean Jackson in the first round (anything can happen)! Also, zartan, I couldnt agree with you more on Clemens. He is a backup at best and a 52.0 completion % wont make things much better for us. Go JETS!!!"
Abraham Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 10:24pm EST"I think that if the Jets have mcfadden and gholston on the board you draft mcfadden if you dont get the trade offer from Dallas because Mcfadden has such Game breaking skills Mangini cant pass such a good option up but if they get the trade they should do the trade and get a WR (best on the board) and QB (Brian Brohm)"
Shawn H Said:
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 10:25pm EST"i think they will trade down and grab a WR and a CB. But I think we should keep the pick and grab C. Long or Gholston. Those two guys are playmakers and will fit in to the Jets Defense very well. Its ovious they are sticking with the 3-4 beacuse Vilma is gone =["

Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:19am EST"Im not worried about the draft, Becouse the last 2 drafts by the jets was the best draft pickes ever with expetion of D Brick. And i think he can get better too, every player we drafted the past 2 years is a playmaker.all these free agents we singed is a patce till be find that potion in the draft.I like the way tings are going, and honesly believe the jets will win a championship in about 2 yrs"
Ablity Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:39am EST"Braeden unlike other fans that post you said allot of smart things we do need two picks to get a reciver in the first round. but we must understand becuase of the bad play of the oline last year it change up our whole passing game. we couldn't go deep not because we didn't have the talent but because we didn't have the time and CB are human they will pick up the short route and stop. KCs a good QB"
John from Europe Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 3:57am EST"If Mr T can swing a deal to DEN and get a pick or 2 back for DRob (he of that horrid contract and bum knees), I will do a dance of joy. As for the draft, trade down if possible. If not & Gholston and RUN DMC are on the board, take the Gholston. At a minimum, he comes in on passing down to rush the QB. Also insurance in case BT does not rebound or Pace is a flop. "
tom Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 6:41am EST"the jets should keep robinson he would be good for a back up. he will also be good if the jets tried him at end. hes got speed and he is big. the run deffence will bee great. the jets would have robinson and elis at end and jenkins in the middle. you cant get a better front 3 than that.plus just think how good harris would bee with that kind of front 3. we would have the best deffence in the afc."
tom Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 6:57am EST"braeden the jets should start clemens. he was young and he didnt have a good line so he didnt do so good. you got to give him a chance with new great offensive line thr jets got now"
Ira Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 6:58am EST"I am 50/50 with the Law interest. But if he were to sign there is no way he would be out of shape or get special treatment like he did in 05."
Frank Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:14am EST"Forget D Jackson the guy is 170lbs...all I have to say about him is Ted Ginn Jr. As for Clemens it's about W's he should have been 5-4 if he had receiver's who could catch the ball. Clemens has something that Pennington never had or ever will have COME BACK ABILITY. Chad does not have the arm for deep strikes and to make throws on the scramble. All the great QB's have both. He has to go!"
uncle joe Said:

Fri, March 14, 2008 - 10:25am EST"Sorry CP haters but Mikt T already announced that chad is coming back. If Clemens is so good, then why did he throw several ints at the goal line and have a 52.0 completion %. and dont tell me HE won with the same line, will montgomery replaced clarke at LG and he played well. Clemens will obviously lose the QB competition this year. Chad is our starter, woooohoooo!!!!!!!"
C. Bahr Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 11:15am EST"I love our position through what we have done in FA. I think we should trade down and pick up a playmaking WR, and a new future QB. I agree the CP is best option for this year, but maybe FLACCO or Henne in late 1st if we can get those cowboy picks as suggested."
murph Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:33pm EST"as long as cp doesnt look like a fastball picher who lost his arm he should have a outstanding year behind a line that can block"
T.Jed Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:49pm EST"Clemens is gonna be real good, give him a chance. Jets will , in 3 years, need a couple O'line guys. But big need for this draft, after A.Agents , is W.reciever, to me - I want to get a guy with good hands and speed to take advantage of K.Clemens good long ball. and I'm doubtfull L.Coles will play all 16 ( + playoffs ! ) Trade down to about 15 would be best option, I don't think any other team "
T.Jed Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 1:05pm EST"( continue) - I don't think Dallas will trade 2 # 1 - I'd LIKE Jets to get with 3 rd round - R.Schoening, G. Oregon ( replace Faneca in 2 or 3 yr); 2 nd rnd - Dev.Thomas , reciever, Mich. st. - Fast, big.; first Rnd. - big ?? Try a killer L'back group - Gholston, Pace , Harris , B.Thomas ? . trade down to about 15 ?"

Fri, March 14, 2008 - 1:08pm EST"According to a recent article by Cimini, Ty Law was poison in the locker room, the weight room, and the film room. In fact, they moved his seat in the film room to keep him away from Miller. If this is true, I want no part of him, even if he were to play for free."
Hogan Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:08pm EST"I am a little on the fence about the QB issue. I think KC has potential and impressed me more than made me mad. CP wiould be good with our current crop of WR's but is that enough reason to put him in, when we have seen his best, and it was not good enough."
Steve Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:17pm EST"The Jets are in great position. I think the jets shouldn't use a 1st round pick on a reciever because each top reciever has a question mark - theres no dominant reciever like Calvin Johnson that can help the team RIGHT NOW. Like Ted Ginn wasn't worth a No.9, if they trade down to 22 and 28, then they should use No.28 on a tall fast reciever, like Limas Sweed (oh and his question mark was injuries)"
SteveS Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:32pm EST"Still think they should draft gohlston at No.6 and move him to ILB to play next to Harris. Just like Adalius thomas who was a DE/OLB and was moved to ILB on the patriots. ALSO-BY HAVING GOHLSTON MANGINI CAN MOVE THE LINBACKERS AROUND TO CREATE MISMATCHES, like the patriots do. If gohlston isnt there trade down to 12-14 and take CB Cromarie who will add a playmaker and lock up CB for yrs to come"
Chris B Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:40pm EST"CP is not the option weather or not we have a good o line doesnt mean he is going to become a man and throw for more then ten yards in his life. You could say that that one throw to coles that one game prooved he could throw but he ignored one thing for the rest of the season that that one throw... worked so we have filled in all the holes in o line and line backers and now it is time for us to..."
Chris B Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:44pm EST"fill in the hole at d end we cant ignore the ellis hasnt been himself manly because abraham isnt there to distract some of the atention and we also need a cb unless we get law. And we should trade up to mid to late first round to get a QB like Henne or Flacco. just incase and the jets might have plans to do so. They dont have a 3rd qb and every jet fan know jets always need a third qb"

Fri, March 14, 2008 - 7:00pm EST"Guys, when it comes to a QB issue.we dont have 1. a QB that is.Cah can throw any pass he wants.his prob is he tries to hard to make it the perfect pass.thats why you get those cute lobs.Kelens has the beter come back abilaty but he shows me he likes to force the issue like Favre.is he as good?we need a new QB!! no question.if none of you want to draft 1 then you dont want 2 win."
Pete Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 7:34pm EST"You are right on point Donal. Law missed meetings, didn't work out, and had a bad attitude the whole year with the Jets. I was livid he made the pro bowl based on his stats, he played awful, you have to watch the games. There is no way we draft a QB as Mangini needs to win now. Drafting a QB will only help the next regime of coaches, he doesn't have the time. We need a CB as we still have no rush!"
Pete Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 7:39pm EST"There is no way CP starts as defenses will just put 8 guys in the box. He should start to transition to coaching. To keep him to tutor KC is worth it. His bonus is so high (like D-Rob) even if you trade them they still count millions against the cap. I love CP but he can't throw hard (yes, he can still throw deep). Let him instill his work ethic, leadership, film study, and professionalism in KC."
Jared Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 7:52pm EST"Can we stop with the draft a QB talk. KC won us 3 games behind a horrible o line and should of won the Baltimore game and Redskins game. He has the talent to be good. Once we fill all our holes like DB and WR and LB and D line depth and if we continue to lose games, then lets point the finger at the QB. In the meantime, lets give him a chance to succeed with a good team behind him for once."
Ablity Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:28pm EST"my problem with KC last year wasn't that he did take to many chances but unlike other young qbs he didn't. and i dont know how many times i have to say it. the bad play at QB for both guys was alllllllll the o-line. they coundn't block and didn't gave the big yards plays a chance and the WRs always ran short routes and there was nowhere for the QB to go cause the coners picked up on the plays."
Ablity Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:33pm EST"the reason we didn't throw long last year was we didn't have the blocking to or the WRs that can coles was always play far back. it wasn't because chad couldn't do it. they force chad to throw shot passes to the sidelines which is his weakness. the team did a great job this offseason filling the oline but we still dont have WRs that why i wanted Cards B.JOHNSON INSTEAD OF PACE BUT PACE IS GOOD"
JOHNNYJET Said:

Ira Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:58pm EST"The more i think about it getting Law would not be bad. It would be an upgrade for that spot and Revis and Law would make a good starting combo. Of course i would only offer him a 1 year deal with incentives. The only problem is the Pats secondary lost Samuel, Gay and now Wilson who just signed with the Bucs. The Pats are desperate for DB's."
Michael Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 9:05pm EST"hey randy do you what Laurence coles time was at the 40 at the combine. And also Justin Miller??? thanks again randy so for all the questions i ask.Jets fan for life,Michael"

Fri, March 14, 2008 - 10:29pm EST"(((Charles )))) u do realize when chad was in college his arm was at 100%..Now fast foward 2-3 surgery's later, his arm is a limp noodle dude ..now he's a solid back up ..now if u dont belive me look at the game films from last season they speak for themselves ..with all the new additions clemens should be solid ..cant judge him on last season when there was no blocking .10-4 is a def possibility"
tom Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 10:37pm EST"charles you are right but when he was in college he didnt have two surgeries on his shoulder.he can barley throw 30 yards accurate.you got to start clemens at qb with his arm."
tom Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 10:48pm EST"zartan you are crazy the jets dont have a QB broblem. we got clemens and he is still young so he can be great with this new line we got.if you think that the jets have a QB problem and you think we should draft one than you just want to wast a draft pick. trust me clemens is the jets QB hands down. pennington does not have the arm or strenght anymore."
Russell Said:
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 11:15pm EST"Randy, I don't understand why we have a QB issue. Chad and Kellen will compete for the starting job. Sign a 3rd QB like Tuiasosopo and let's move on. By the way fellow Jets fans, the Jets have QB Brett Ratliff on their practice squad. Randy, can you share some thoughts on QB Brett Ratliff? He's like 6'4" weighs around 225-230 lbs. I wonder about his arm strength or ability to read defenses?"
Eric Allen Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 9:59am EST"Russell, as you noted, Brett has fine size. Coach Mangini singled him out in June as having a mastery of subject matter as displayed in the pop quizzes the coach gives in meetings. A scouting service last year said he has "a strong arm," "good mobility" and "intriguing potential." We should see more of Brett this off-season and training camp."
Rob Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 8:23am EST"I can't believe a fan saying Chad at his best wasn't good enough, I guess 2004 when we lost to Steelers in 2nd round was a dream. And the loss was on 3 missed field goals. Or '02 season when he took us to AFC Championship after 1-4 start. We question his arm, how about learning new offense every year and play with broken line and shoulder?"
tom Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 8:49am EST"the jets should sighn wide reviever malcum floyd.he was a great wide reviever when he was with the chargers last year.he would be a great pick up and he is 6-5 and fast.he is till young too he has only been in the NFL for two years.he would be so effective in the red zone with thoes lob passes in the back of the endzone"
steven Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 10:05am EST"Start Brad Smith at Quarterback and trade down for a first and two second round picks, or take gholston and eat opposing quarterbacks for breakfast"
Braeden Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 10:34am EST"Once again, Kellens played behind will montgomery, not adrien clarke. That was why he one 3 games. 2 games containing no offense and no intellegence whatsoever and the 40- point game against the fins was because they were messed up badly on defense. Chad has intelligence, signal calling, accuracy, and a 68.8 completion % behind a terrible line. What does clemens have?..arm strength.. thats it...."
Hogan Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 10:37am EST"Rob, dont get me wrong I love CHAD but, his time is over. He always had a great mind, he had a decent arm but surgerys took care of that. I do think he is a great mentor for KC and he should go into coaching."
Alan Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 10:57am EST"Guys all u CP lovers start fighting becuz u know what the odds are right now... Everyone knows KC is the future of Jets and while this offseason is goin were rebuildin guys that got 4 ssns left in em so KC is startin it. As with free agency dont look for any more big namers becuz We only have 4 million left in cap unless we trade out some players thats why we didnt get utecht or Eugene. JETS!!!!"
Michael Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 11:07am EST"hey eric, soory for calling you randy.Do you Kerry rhodes and darelle Revis 40 time at the combine?jets fan for life,Michael"
Eric Allen Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 4:47pm EST"That was me, Randy, answering you, Michael. Kerry Rhodes ran a 4.46 40 at the 2005 combine. Darrelle Revis ran a 4.38 at Pitt's pro day last year."
Drew Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 11:34am EST"Really could care less about Law. He has never adjusted to the new rules and has lost more than a step. I feel he might be using the Jets for leverage against the Pats anyway. I would like to pick up a guy in the first few rounds and go from there. Gholsten is the pick if available. Knew this kid would get hot but now maybe a top 3 pick!! Trading down is the best option."
Drew Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 11:43am EST"Forget about D Jackson. He is not a great WR and we do not need special teams help. We need a big WR not a undersize speed guy. Ask the Phins how the T Ginn pick has worked out, same player...Will have to agree with Frank on Chad. A few bads starts from KC and then the Chad calls start again. Go get a "different" veteran QB to back up. Frank, when did you ever give me too much credit??"
Jakeberk Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 11:53am EST"First of all, CP throws the ball like a 4 yr old girl, secondly, stop bashing Bryan Thomas, he was focused on by all teams last year, they slid protection over to his side, watch the game tape. I hope we trade down with Dallas and get Hardy and Jenkins at WR and CB. Need to move DROB soon!"
CEDRIC Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 1:15pm EST"im not sold on DMC, but i wouldnt be mad if they get him. Grab Gholston, pass rush is the key. 2nd round WR. a QB now would be ridiculous, let KC learn the system, obviously this is a RUN first team with the moves they made n KC can stretch the field. The spending isnt a problem cuz if u look at the contracts the jets broke it up wise. if a player doesnt work out for them the cap hit isnt that bad"
zartan Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 1:28pm EST"last year i cried 4 them 2 take Chad out because of the o-line and lack of zip in his pass.say what you like but kellen showes next 2 nothing.he will be an average QB.i just want great.which is what i think Flacco would be.when u look at our team {2 ROOKIES} are the best. the rest is waste that needs a upgrade.i want a team that scares you on the field.i dont want good QB going againt a great def"
Jeremy Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 2:01pm EST"Don't see Gholston still available at #6, not anymore atleast. Same goes for both Long's & Run DMC. I'm thinking after cutting Dyson, Miller coming back from injury and playing the Pats twice every year--JETS need depth at CB and I could easily see McKelvin, CB, Troy State being taken at #6 or Jenkins from USF. I totally agree that we need DE/LB's but Long & Gholston are the only ones worth that $"
hank Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 3:45pm EST"at one time chad was great and dont forget there was another guy who played named curtis martin who was the focul point of the offense for the better part of ten years. the jets lived and died on his legs. chad has alot of heart, even with a busted wing he's better than most. "
Charles F Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 3:54pm EST" I hear D. Jackson WR is available now on the market. 9er's just put him on the waiver. He was awesome in Seattle , Jets could use another WR since we cut J.M. M.Floyd would be another great grab. Jets 08 "
draz67 Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 4:25pm EST"Jets invested huge money in pace and B thomas, (whom I think will break out from last seasons coma). Even at #6 regardless who is there the jets will trade down guaranteed. Ist pick will be a Big and fast WR, when coles is done (which is one concussion away) then OT or OG, ILB, CB all needed for depth. Nuff said, see you in the playoffs!!"
Frank Said:
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 5:28pm EST"Hey Drew I won't beat you up further about your Vilma comments from the other day. I think your emotions get in the way of your thinking sometimes. Did you hear "my boy" Parcells is bringing M. Kelly in for a look. I really hope Tangini takes look at him. If we trade down he would be a good pick later in the first or second round. I have a feeling Parcells is taking Ryan and Kelly with 2nd pick."

Eric Allen Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 10:03am EST"Michael, last 40 questions, please. Chansi Stuckey ran a 4.61 at last year's combine on a sore foot. I don't have Curtis Martin's 1995 combine time but in draft books from that year he was listed with 4.55 speed."
hank Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 6:40am EST"if the jets pick up drops jackson it would be a huge mistake, trade down in the draft get flacco and a receiver there is a ton out there. hopefully drob gets traded soon send em over to herm who by the way is drowning another franchise with his ego and poor coaching"
Drew Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 9:35am EST"I stand by my Vilma/D-Rob comments Frank. I always thought they were a tad overhyped. Plus they never made a big stop against NE when it mattered... I agree with all of your draft thoughts though. I am dying to trade down and pick up a big WR and then go anywhere with the next 2 picks. I have a feeling your boy is taking J Long at #1. I still dont believe Ryan is a top 15 pick. Plus he hates QB's"
tom Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 10:03am EST"the jets should draft munningham.he wasc a great wide reciever in michagan.he ran the 40 in 4.5 seconds.plus he is tall.this is what the jets need.if the jets do get him they should start cochery and munningham and put coles in the slot or just get rid of him and put smiyh in the slot.or stucky"
Braeden Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 10:29am EST"Chad is the starter but I still think we should draft a qb. Colt Brennan is a good pick in the 4th rd. Ive also updated my mock draft. 1.Dolphins-Jake Long 2.Rams-Chris Long 3.Falcons-Matt Ryan 4.Raiders-Darren McFadden 5.Chiefs-Leodis McKelvin 6.JETS-Vernon Gholston-woooot Tell me what you think. Also Randy, what did Colt Brennan do at the combine, I missed most of it."
Eric Allen Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 11:05am EST"Braeden, this is Randy. Colt Brennan took his physicals but did not work out at the combine due to a hamstring injury. Hawaii's pro day is April 1."
GIOVANNI LEONE Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 10:43am EST"IF CHOLSTON IS STILL ON THE BOARD AT #6 WE GOT TO GET HIM,SAME THINK FOR C.LONG,THEY WILL FIT RITE IN TO OUR SYSTEM AND GIVE US A GREAT PASS RUSHER.IF THEY ARE GONE NO WAY DO WE GO AFTER MC FARDDEN,WE HAVE ENOGH RB,MY GESS WHOLD BE TO TRADE DOWN WHIT DALLAS FOR THEY 2#2 FIRST ROUNDER AND WE CAN GET AGREAT RECEIVER AND A CB,AND PICK UP A QB IN THA 2SD ROUND,THERE ARE FEW GOOD QB IN DIS YEAR DRAFT."

Ira Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 10:58am EST"Randy, looks like Big Bubba Franks will be signed by tomorrow. If he can stay healthy i think can contribute. Tom, forget manningham, James Hardy is the WR we need. Trust me on that one. "
Ira Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 11:04am EST"See that Hutchinson from the Star Ledger is reporting that the Jets are close to signing Bubba Franks. Finally they get some much needed depth at the TE postion if this goes down. If Franks can stay healthy he is a very good redzone target. Now if they use a lot of 2 TE sets at least the QB will have more options. The Jets are building to win now. GO JETS!!!!!!! "
michael Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 11:17am EST"sorry for all the 40 questions.but thanks for all those answers.do you know if it is true that the Jets are going to sign bubba franks???anyone know jets fan for life,Michael"
Braeden Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 12:20pm EST"Finally, I couldnt go much longer without a signing. Bubba Franks will give Chad another playmaker. I'm tellin you were easily in first place after the draft. I still say we should trade with Tampa and draft DeSean Jackson. Jackson, Cotchery, Coles, Franks, Baker, Leon, a sick o-line and a great running game, like theyre doin all this for the newbie and not the vet leader (Chad). JETS IN 08!! woo!"
Braeden Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 12:32pm EST"We need to draft Gholston and D.Jackson in the first rd. The reson for gholston is because, well what did the Giants do in the superbowl, THEY KNOCKED BRADY OUT!! Thats why we need tough guy that can rush the passer, like Gholston. But right now either Gholston or McFadden will make me happy. A quick note on CP, if we are settling for 6 wins, KC would start, but no, were settleing for 10 wins,CP!"
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 1:10pm EST"Braeden Chad is not the future of this team I know you like the guy but think football wise he is not it. As for the draft TJones will be out of football in 3 years McFadden is a stud draft him think about our team running the ball, throwing it on a fake run, or taking the direct snap & keeping it or pitching it to leon our team would be great "
Jared Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 3:10pm EST"You know who ran a good 40?Troy Williamson from Minnesota, funny thing is he cant catch a ball. 40 times are overrated.Cant base everything on how fast someone is. Also, Braeden are u kidding me? "KC won 3 games cuz he had Montgomery instead of Clarke" if Montgomery was that HUGE of an upgrade then he should be good enough to start this season. He must be one of the top RT's to make that difference"
Alan Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 3:35pm EST"If the jets sign Bubba Franks that would boost our recieving game even more so. Also I dont know about you guys but i would rather loose coles or trade him for another pick then Draft Cromartie in the first and in the 2nd get Desean Jackson Or kelly. Also If we get rid of coles and Cotctchery starts along with someone else i would Love to see Chris Wallace play in the slot he is a talented player"
Frank Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 5:06pm EST"Drew Drew Drew come on now. Parcells did take Bledsoe with the first pick in NE and he did go to the superbowl with him. He certainly would have picked Manning if he would have come out as a Junior when he had the first pick with NYJ. The question is does he think Ryan is the answer there is no way Beck is the starting QB for Miami on day 1. If he picks Ryan then we will get a great player at #6."
Chris Said:
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 9:47pm EST"I think the Jets should able to wait out on the 6th draft, when their times comes, that way, Jerry Jones can keep sweating and will call to Jets to trade their 2 - 1st draft pick, and I would love to see RB Barber including a deal, we would have really insane RBs, Jones, Barber, and Washington, those guys can change the game levels big time!"
GIOVANNI LEONE Said:
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 12:13pm EST"YES THE JETS GOT BUBBA,THE WAY THE JETS ARE GOING IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE CHAD THE JOB FEFORE THEY GIVE IT TO KC,WITH THE PLAYERS THEY HAVE SIGNED SO FAR INDICATES THAT THEY ARE GOING WITH CHADMI COULD BE WRONG BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE GOING FOR IT THIS YEAR AND NEXT,AND CHAD SEEM LIKE THE OVIACE CHOISE,JETS 11-5 THIS YEAR WITH CP,OR 9-7WHIT KC."
Row Said:
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 7:14pm EST"Hey drew, did you know Chad johnson is about 180 lbs? Did you see the interview on the NFL network? Desean jackson would be a great pick, just not at number 6. I say trade down, pick Deasean Jackson and Flowers the corner, they both would fit our schemes. Any comments? What do you think of the 4th round pick for vilma? It sickens me."
