02/29 — This is how Mike Tannenbaum opened up his conference call with Jets beat reporters shortly after 8 p.m.:
"I just want to announce that we've signed Stacy Tutt to an exclusive-rights contract, and that's about it," the Jets general manager said. "So if there are no questions, we'll just call it a day."
Mike T was just kidding, of course — not about Tutt, the fullback who really did sign a new deal, but about calling it a day. The reporters had a few questions about today's events, both those announced by the Jets and those speculated on by others.
Tannenbaum offered one bit of news that, while still somewhat vague as the process takes its course, disagrees with reports by ESPN's John Clayton and others that the compensation for the trade of LB Jonathan Vilma to New Orleans is a 2009 fourth-round pick that could escalate to a third-rounder.
"We do have a firm pick in the 2008 draft," Tannenbaum corrected the writer's information, "and in addition we could acquire a pick in the 2009 draft depending on the 2008 performance that could escalate to higher than what you stated. So that's just not correct."
As for the human part of the trade, the GM replied that Vilma was a part of the "collaborative process" that sent the former Pro Bowl LB and Jets team MVP to the Saints.
"Jon did a lot of great things for us for four years," Tannenbaum said. "I had a great conversation with him again today. When we looked at it as an organization and the depth at the inside linebacker position with David Harris, Eric Barton and Brad Kassell, we felt we have depth there. We thought we got really good value relative to what we got in the trade, again without getting into specifics. And with Jon, it was not really about the injury but about having one year to go on his contract."
On the other big announced news, Tannenbaum went into more detail on bringing Carolina DT Kris Jenkins to the Jets.
"We did a lot of work on this, and we had a great visit with Kris," he said. "We play a multiple-front defense. We like his size, his athleticism. We think he's going to be a really good fit for us. He'll be here for the off-season program. It's up to Eric [Mangini] where he plays, but we feel he fits in a lot of spots along the defensive front."
Another question concerned the speculaton that if Jenkins is here, DT Dewayne Robertson must be on his way to another team.
"I know there's a lot of rumors out there about Dewayne," Tannenbaum said. "Dewayne's 26, he's done a lot of things for us as well. I don't want to comment on any rumors. But depth on the defensive line is important, there's nothing imminent, and Dewayne should be here."
And what of NFL sources saying that Alan Faneca, the Pittsburgh guard, has reached a tentative agreement to come east and join the Jets' offensive line? Mr. T had nothing to report on those reports.
"We're working hard on a lot of guys right now, we've got a lot of calls out," he said. "I have nothing to say about that at this point in time. We're going to keep working hard throughout the whole free agency process. As soon as we have something to announce, we'll let you guys know."
Tannenbaum extended thanks to New Orleans GM Mickey Loomis and Carolina GM Marty Hurney for their parts in the two trades of the day, and also to his own people for the work that began long before today's 12:01 a.m. start to the free agency and trading period.
"Our pro personnel people have done a great job and our coaching staff has done a great job," he said. "Everybody's tired, but we're going to keep working here and see what we can get done for the team."
And with that, Tannenbaum really did call it a day, at least publicly.

Fri, February 29, 2008 - 9:36pm EST"If we can not sign Faneca mabye we should look into signing Stallworth he is a deep homerun threat Coles & Cotchery are short to middle guys that make the tuff catches with these 3 we would be explosive or bring back Ty Law he can still play & he can mentor Revis. Rhodes, Revis & Law now that is a secondary. In the draft get 1 of these 6 either C.Long, J.Long, Gholston, McFadden, Dorsey or Ellis."
Tom Spicer Said:
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 10:03pm EST"I think the Jets should keep Robertson for 2 reasons 1 he is a good player just not a nose tackle in a 3-4 he can play DT in a 4-3 or a DE in a 3-4. 2 Kenyon Coleman did nothing this year. The front 7 should be NT Jenkins, DE'S Ellis & Robertson, ILB Harris & Barton, OLB Thomas & Bowens. We still need a LG, RT, 3RD WR, "

Fri, February 29, 2008 - 10:25pm EST"Still hurting from losing Vilma. So much for wanting high energy, intelligent players with good character. Love Jenkins, but #51 was our fearless leader making 100's of tackles all over the field. Now I watch linebackers drag down the ball carrier 8 yards from scrimmage as a tiny nose tackle picks himself from the ground. If Mangini coached high school basketball, he'd still run the 3-4! "
Jared Said:
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 10:25pm EST"Good job Mr.T, excited that we are finally spending some cash on legit talent. And lets face it, after this year Vilma was on the way out regardless cuz he doesnt fit in a 3-4. Its either trade him and get value now or let him opt out for FA next season (& he would of) and get nothing. I hate to see him go but its a smart move. Lets continue to open our wallets and get a good RT, tall WR and DB "
Jakeberk Said:
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 11:35pm EST"With Jenkins in the middle now and Ellis on one side draft Gholston and Erin Henderson if he falls to us in the second round, and the front seven should be solid. i think if we find one more corner our secondary should be set. Rhodes is a star, Revis is going to be, and Abram Elam was a beast last year. Go after Damien Woody and Bryant Johnson!"

Fri, February 29, 2008 - 11:56pm EST"Very upset with the loss of Vilma. You would think you could get a better pick than the one reported and its not even for this year. Once again we are losing a first round pick that still has many years left in his career. I hope this trade doesn't come back to bit us. I've seen too much over the years."

Sat, March 1, 2008 - 12:29am EST"This is a day of mixed emotions. If we reel in Faneca then we have done a good job improving the OL and DL w/Jenkins. Losing JV for a possible 4 or 3 in"09 stinks, hopefully the reports are inaccurate. Need to keep pushing ahead and fill our RT(Olivea?), LB(Pace?) and WR(Johnson?) holes. CB is another area of heartburn. Tuna is working down there in Miami, stay the course T! "

Sat, March 1, 2008 - 8:22am EST"I really like these moves because when the season was over.. i said to myself we NEED to get better on both lines. Getting Faneca and Jenkins did that.. After we watch Faneca trash and D-Lineman we will be saying Pete Kendall.. WHO?!!? I do not agree with getting Stallworth cuz we have no 1 to throw him the long ball. Pennington is way better than Clemens. i know he's "young" but i see no potential."
John C Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:12am EST"In response to an early comment. Kenyon Colemam led the defensive line in tackles with 83. The next was Dwayne Robertson with 57. Coleman wasn't flashy but he did more than hold his own. I like Robertson but he does have some knee issues and does count alot against the cap. I think he will be dealt by draft day."
draz Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:19am EST"Tangenious!!! Now get rid of Drob for a pick, too much of cap number 11mil. Sign Faneca and a RT. If DMC still on draft board trade to dallas. Draft OG, OLB and WR . Add more depth to both lines especially O line and we will see you in the the playoffs"
Wayne Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:31am EST"Randy, the Jenkins trade is a big first step on D to help stop the run & put more pressure on QB. We NEED to get Faneca for OL. Both guys although older will provide experience & toughness to struggling offense & defense. We still need to bolster O & D lines in the draft & add a quality linebacker & safety. Once done, need to add depth all around & to receiving corp. GO JETS! "
Jetaholic Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:35am EST"We need to sign Alan Faneca if we are to have any chance at a successful season next year. Everybody blames Chad but, interestingly, nobody remembers how much Pennington got hit, or how horrid the run game was, or the fact that our coaching staff let one of the better o-lineman in Kendall go. Alan has shown year in and year out that he is arguably the best LG in the NFL. DT check, LG need now. "

A lousy 4th or 5th choice for a starting linebacker -- pathetic. If vilma was so awful, why didnt they trade him last year. Is Sutton going to be the answer this year? It's a joke. Should you spend huge guarantee money on a guard when we dont have a quarterback? Hopeless."

Jenkins is an animal and we gave correct value (check the S Rogers trade) plus we get a 08 4th and a possible 09 2nd for Vilma. Plus we got an 09 4th for Kendall...Shows that Mr T is a great GM and the correct leader of this team"

JV wanted out of NY, he seeked the trade and the Jets signed off on it. So its better we get value for him now then get nothing for him next season when he leaves in FA. I'll miss him but if he didnt want to be a Jet, then good riddance"
Drew Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 2:52pm EST"Great post Common Sense.....At least there is some intelligent fans here. Vilma asked for the right to seek a trade. He wanted some say in where he could go. Great for both sides here. Also great value for a player coming off an injury and had 2 subpar seasons in a system that would never work for him. When the dust settles this off-season the "real" Jet fans are going to be very happy!!"

Randy Lange Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 3:32pm EST"George P, it's being reported correctly elsewhere today, but to officially recap the Jonathan Vilma trade: The Jets get a fourth-round pick from New Orleans in this year's draft. If Vilma reaches certain unspecified play-time incentives AND signs a new contract with New Orleans, the Saints would send the Jets a third- or a second-round pick in 2009, based on those incentives, and the Jets would send the Saints a 2009 fourth-round pick."

Sat, March 1, 2008 - 3:51pm EST"I'm going to miss Vilma ,but we did get a nice deal for him! I wish him luck with his new team! Mr.T great job with free agency beefing up the Oline and Dline we're going to need it since the division is getting so much tougher! "
Jared Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 4:20pm EST"The more I hear about this Vilma trade, the more I like it. Im thinking with the moves we have made thus far that Gholston is a no brainer in the first round. We need an outside linebacker and he seems to fit the bill and will be there at 6. In the 2nd round if we dont get a WR in free agency then I like Manningham. I know he had a rough combine but he has proved he can get it done on the field."

Sat, March 1, 2008 - 5:57pm EST"Sounds like we wrapped up Faneca. Tangini has made an absolutely stunning transformation and re-invented themselves by signing Faneca and Jenkins both of whom are outspoken and not afraid to voice an opinion. Ira Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 6:03pm EST"The Vilma trade was a good deal for what they could get. You never get equal value for NFL trades. Danny G Said:
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 10:20pm EST"Psyched about Kris Jenkins, but we need to keep him in a rotation with Robertson. Giving away Dewayne Robertson would hurt more than most would realize. Once you are out of the top ten the $$ becomes more manageable."

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:49am EST"Thank you for answering me back Randy. I feel that we need to sign Pace, from Arizona. He would be a great addition to our 3-4 defense and is a player on the rise. Sign him before the Fins do. Tony Annunziata, do u have a clue about football? It is not that easy to sign a big named player like Randy Moss. Although he would be a great addition, the Jets need a lot more than one wide reciever. "

While the Jets did take on big-time players for big money....these 2 guys have always been known to play hard and have never had any off the field problems. They still have the core values but they have more talent than any other 2 players the Jets have ever signed"
Drew Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 7:01am EST"Before any ridiculous fan says .."We did not want to give Kendall 1million last year but gave Faneca all this money today" need to understand that Faneca is 4 years younger and 100 times more talented than Kendall. The Jets did not handle the Kendall deal correctly but ask Wash if they are happy they gave up a 4th for a 35 yr old LG who didnt play very well last year? Great job by Tangini here!!!!"

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 7:37am EST"Jenkins and Faneca really help us out. Sun, March 2, 2008 - 9:18am EST"I can't beleive all the people whp are upset that the Jets traded Vilma. I guess a lot of you don't actually watch football on Sunday. Talk about addition by subtraction. The guy clearly could not adopt to the 3-4 defense and would have done nothing but limited David Harris, a true maker. Great trade Mike T, now another LB please b/c Kassell is a special teamer at best"
Braeden Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 10:46am EST"I gotta say to the people that think we want Clemens to be the starter, WE DONT WANT CLEMENS TO BE THE STARTER!!! As the great Scotty Farrell once said " He (clemens) will never be better or more accurate than chad pennington; He'll be outta the league in 3 years!" said the great Scotty Ferell."
Hogan Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:20am EST"Siecked about Faneca but our next move should be pace, and OLIVEA. Hes got the youth over WOODY. What does everyone think?"
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:24am EST"Drew, now I know you are spiking your Kool Aide. Jenkins was very outspoken and did not participate in the Panther's off season program last year. I guarantee you that Tangini spoke to him and made sure that wasn't going to happen here or no trade or contract. As for Faneca he blasted the Steelers for 2 years wanting a new contract. Tangini dumped Kendall for the same behavior. "
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:27am EST"Furthermore Drew Tangini is in full fledged panic mode now that Parcells is back in the division. I guarantee to you that if Parcells did not take over the Dolphins and be making all this noise Tangini would not have approached this off season the same way. Parcells indirectly helped us by strinking fear into the organization that the Phins would blast by us if we didn't get moving. THANK YOU TUNA"
TB Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:12pm EST"Randy quick question? I love all the defensive playmakers that we have added! it's about time we picked up talent vs. character players but what about on the offensive side? I still think we need a deep threat and by that I mean a 6'3 200+ pound quick reviver that can stretch the field. What are your thoughts?"
Randy Lange Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:55pm EST"TB, thanks for the question but I have to defer to GM Mike Tannenbaum, who on Friday said, "Right now we're proceeding with the plan that we have and we'll see what happens.""

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:46pm EST"Great moves in free agency till now, finally having some room with salary cap allowed us to do this. One thing that surprises me is, not talk about getting a defensive end. Randy does it mean we have a lock on Chris Long during draft?"
Randy Lange Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:51pm EST"Rob, except for the first pick, there are no locks in the draft."
Ira Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:59pm EST"Frank, Parcells taking over the Fish has nothing to do with the Jets aggressive strike this year. They know what they had to do. The middle of the road FA's were not working for them. Also do you think they wanted to have any more 4-12 years before they enter the new stadium. They want to have a winning program and are committed to that. More to come before Tuesday.GO JETS!!!!!"
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 1:03pm EST"Tangini should call the Bears and offer Coles to them. They have absolutly no Receivers and I think we can get a few picks for him. Then use that money to go after Moss. We need playmakers. Then we can fleece Jones for his 2 first round picks and Marion Barber for our number 6 pick so he can grab McFadden who is going to be an NFL bust. We need to get a pick for D-Rob if not he has to restructure."
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 1:11pm EST"If D-Rob doesn't restructure he will be cut his cap number is 12 million. We should also go after R.Gay and get him signed. We need to trade Chad next or all the good being done now will be undone in a split lockeroom and camp QB controversy we absolutely do not need. All our needs would then be meet and we will have plenty of picks to get a quality OT, OG, CB, QB and Safety help."
Sweeney Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 2:12pm EST"Forget about trading Chad and Coles, how bout we get ourselves a coordinator that lets the players play! I get so sick of watching them run the ball for two yards at a time or throwing for minimal gains. When allowed to throw the ball Chad makes completions, maybe even more so with an improving OL. Let er' rip Jets!!"
Ira Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 2:15pm EST"Frank, No way can they cut D-Rob. Can't take a 12 million cap hit. He will be traded before the draft if not this week. Hope they could get a 4th rd pick for him. Would be shocked if they can do any better. There will be no trading of Chad not after they spent all this $ on older FA's. He will be the starter come opening day. Clemens is not ready yet to beat him out in camp. Eugene Wilson?"
JimmyOzone Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 2:25pm EST"Alan Faneca hooray...its just like a mini-mall! lets make it a dance!"
John from Europe Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 2:44pm EST"Gay to the Saints.... We need to still shore up the other corner opposite Revis. Who is left out there in FA or do we go after Lito Sheppard? If we trade with DAL, then we can pick up a DB late in the first round"
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 4:19pm EST"We should take McFadden he is a homerun hitter he can score evrery time he gets the ball. He is a STUD our running game would be great !"
Jake Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 5:11pm EST"I think the Jets are def making the playoffs this season. Jenkins, Faneca, and now Damien Woody at RT! Now all the Jets need to do is to draft Darren McFadden, he'll carry that offense until we get a good QB."
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 5:41pm EST"Ira, D-Rob's cap hit would be significantly less. He is due a significant roster bonus which we are definitely not going to make. His cap number is significantly less if at all if he is cut. I don't beleive any of the money is guaranteed so I don't know if it actually counts maybe Randy can shed some light on this. Secondly, Parcells had everything to do with the new and improved Tangini."
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 5:47pm EST"We will be lucky if we get a conditional pick for D-Rob we only got a 4th rounder for Vilma. D-Rob has a chronic knee problem I am sure is scaring away people. I don't give a damn about statistics Clemens won more games last year is at this point a more multi-dimensional QB and was the starter at the end of the season and should be the starter this year. This year will be a disaster if he stays."
Frank Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 5:58pm EST"Chad is done he has no arm, no mobility and no comeback ability. Just look at the play that won the superbowl Manning breaks free from a sure sack and heaves an off balance throw to Tyree something Chad could never do. We will never get to the Superbowl with Chad we may not with Clemens but we need to find out. He is tough, mobile, has a cannon, and showed comeback ability everything Chad is not."
JETFAN74 Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 6:42pm EST"I think Mr. T must have been a thief in a past life. The way he keeps stealing draft picks/players from other teams, he might end up in the BIG HOUSE some day. We all should commend them on working so hard to get rid of our dead weight and problem children. D-Rob and LC you're next!!!! I love what the front office is doing w/ both lines, because the war is won in the trenches!!!!"
Braeden Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 7:01pm EST"If we draft a qb i definetly want Colt Brennan over Flacco , henne, or andre woodson. I updated my mock draft too =D 1.Dolphins- Matt Ryan 2.Rams-Chris Long 3.Falcons-Jake Long 4.Raiders-Glenn Dorsey 5.Chiefs-Vernon Gholston? 6.Jets-Darren McFadden-im not gonna stop.... Tell me what you think."
DAMONE Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 7:04pm EST"I would definetely take Olivea over Woody.Ira,i agree AND disagree with you and Frank. As for everyone talking about another WR AND CB.J.MILLER and C.STUCKEY!!J.Miller was way to hurt last year to even play let alone start and C.Stuckey will be good!!Dont forget about those guys Jet fans!!"
CrazyJetsFan Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 8:23pm EST"Aren't we in the market for a game breaking WR......Get Randy Moss and pair him up with Chad Pennington!!!"
Ablity Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 9:04pm EST"we will never get mcfadden even if he was there when we pick we are going to get vernon gloston Braeden "
Matt Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 9:11pm EST"Please pick up Javon Walker! He will recover from his injuries and become probowl caliber! What a WR core that would be, LC, Javon Walker, and Jericho Cothery....I dream about the jets having those type of WR's "
JOHNNYJET Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 9:15pm EST"RANDY- THE JETS AREN'T DONE YET!!! CALVIN PACE WILL BE COMING ABOARD AS WELL AS A TRADE FOR LITO SHEPPARD THAT WAS I AM HEARING !DAMIEN WOODY AS WELL!!! RANDY MOSS POSSIBLY AS WELL!!"
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:00pm EST"I think we should keep Robertson ask him to take a pay cut he would be a much better DE than Coleman. Think about our D line Jenkins, Ellis & Robertson that is a great D line. I know our ILB's are Harris & Barton who are the outside backers for next year ? Thomas stunk last year & Hobson is gone will it be Thomas & Bownes ? Also go with Kellen Chad is done & he will only get worse no upside at all"
Tom Spicer Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:16pm EST"The way things are shaping up we have a 50/50 shot at McFadden Miami would never take a RB Rams have Jackson Falcons just signed Turner Oakland just resigned Fargas to a big contract & Chiefs have Johnson Leaving the Jets with the most talented player BY FAR in the draft to fall to them at 6 This guy would be rookie of the year HANDS DOWN the run would be so good it would free up the pas GET D MAC"
Jonas Patrick Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:40pm EST"The Jets should Pick up Julius Jones, Thomas's younger brother. They're similiar backs, but Julius (RB-Dallas) will kick it out and Thomas will just run you over. The Jets need more expirience on the O-line, then mabey move D-brick to Right Tackle for the time being? This Should help the offense. For the defensive side they should pick up Pace (OLB-Arizona) and bring back Aaron Glenn."
scionce Said:
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:42pm EST"nice moves thus far. really hoping for a homerun draft though. i think if mcfadden falls to 6 i can see the T negotiating a trade for dallas' 22 & 28. draft grades might not really equate. would they randy? however, if that did happen then it'd be sweet to see the T taking maybe RB jonathan stewart and cb/s reggie smith; or an ox of an OG. but i'm really hoping we can get gholston or long at 6."
cactus hugger Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 2:08am EST"Nice moves! I like the acquisitions the Jets have made so far. I'm not crazy about Vilma deal; we could've gotten better value - if it's true that Jets would give up an '09 pick as well. I think the Jets should use the draft to find a tall WR, rookie WRs frequently make an impact. The key is the OL. Given time either CP or KC can put up good numbers; I like KC's arm strength. Go Jets!"
Critchy3 Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 6:10am EST"ESPN is reporting DRob to the Bengals for a 4th and 5th this yr. Considering what all the big name DT's have gone for that's a good deal. That will give us 3 4th Rd pix and decent trade bait. I prefer we keep the pix since we need depth and talent across the board but if a great deal comes along we have something to offer! What's going on with Pace and Olivea, let's get those deals done! "
Critchy3 Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 6:19am EST"I've read a number of comments mentioning how great the front office is and I must make this statement. While they have done a good job with moves this offseason, it has taken them 3yrs to realize they had the wrong players for their system! Now we are getting marginal value for excellent players in a 43 system! While I commend them on the moves made now, we are 3yrs too late!! "
Critchy3 Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 6:39am EST"Can we continue the momentum and get ourselves a new DC?? I'm sure Sutton is a good positions coach, but he needs some help in the creativity and scheming parts of the game. I dont know how many games I watched the first half of the season and wondered what the heck we were doing defensively! We should be looking to improve our talent in all aspects, that to include the coaching staff as well!"
Ira Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 6:55am EST"Damone, Good point but can Stuckey stay healthy? Miller i think will have his chance. He seemed to be getting it in camp but was hurt and then lost in week #2. D-Rob to Cinny for a 4th and 5th is a very good move. Especailly with all the success the Jets have had picking in the 4th rd. Cotchery,Rhodes,Washington and B.Smith were all 4th rd picks. Nice job again for Mr. T. GO JETS!!!!!!!"
HORSE Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 8:53am EST"NYJ, REALLY NEED TO TAKE A LON LONG @ OLIVEA FROM SD MUCH YOUNGER THEN WOODYY, HE A NATURAL RT AND THE KID IS FROM NY. THIS WOULD BE A MUCH MORE SOUND IVESTMENT. I ALSO AGREE WITH PICKING A POWERFUL RB FOR SHORT YARDAGE SITUATIONS, SO WE ARE NOT THROWING FADE ROUTES TO BRAD SMITH ON 4TH AND 1 ON THE GOAL LINE!!!!!!!!"
Tom Spicer Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 9:36am EST"I just read the Jets traded Robertson to the Bengals for a 4th & 5th round pick #'s 114 & 151. I am happy the front office is trying to do something to fix this team instead of sitting on there hands. Now draft McFadden & we will be playoff bound Mcfadden is the 2nd leading rusher in the history of the SEC if he would have played hi SR. year he would have the lead by over 1,000 yards he is a BEAST"
Hogan Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:13am EST"I was the biggest CHAD supporter for the first half of the season. Lets faceit,I love him but he is done. It is way to early to say if CLEMMINS is good or not. You got to give a young QB time. Also MOSS would not come to a 4-12 team."
Drew Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:14am EST"Rumor is D-Rob to the Broncos for a 4th and 5th. Again, this would be a great move for the Jets. JVil & D-Rob are AVG players in a 3-4 and good ones in a 4-3 not great.....Frank I usually agree with u for getting rid of Chad because I want KC to run this team but I would hold onto Chad right now. We are taking big steps to compete in 2008 and Chad is a good soldier to have....just in case"
Kevin Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:16am EST"I say we keep LC he is a good WR who has speed and ability or do none of you remember the Green Bay game where he had the presence of mind to roll into the endzone or 2 years ago in the almost come from behind win where he broke away from tacklers to get into the end zone he was hurt last year but still a valuable player when given a line and he is fast enough to be a deep threat just needs help"
Tom Spicer Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:18am EST"If we do not take McFadden with the 6th pick I promise you the Pats will at 7 & he will run all over us for the next 10 years DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE We have fixed our LG with Faneca & our NT with Jenkins sign Pace for OLB & we are set. T Jones will be 30 this season he is past his prime get Mcfadden we will be set at RB for the next 10 years D MAC is 20 years old he rocked the NCAA at 19 STUD"
Dunnie Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:26am EST"I say trade down ... no to mcfadden .... pick up a later 1st and a 3rd. It will save $$ and give us more possibilities."
Frank Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:11am EST"Drew If we traded for Chad as a backup insurance policy for Clemens I would agree that would be a great move. The problem is we made the decision to go with Clemens we must stick to that. I guarantee you this is going to be a major problem next year if both are still on the roster. Every week every play and every W-L is going to be followed by second guessing which is going to hurt the team."
Patrick Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:13am EST"I dont see why a few of you want to get rid of coles. There are very few WR's in this league who are tougher than him and he is dangerous in the open field. The WR draft class isnt the greatest either. Who could we draft thats better than coles? We do need a tall WR to complement LC & JC but I don't see how getting rid of him would help this team. They've made great moves so far, keep it up."
Anonymous Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:23am EST"I am absolutely sick and tired of Coles constant whining and complaining. In all fairness to Chad he is the one who restructured his contract so Coles could rejoin the Jets. Everything with Coles is about the money that was true the first time he left for the Skins and now again. After the legacy Curtis established with this organization Coles is a disgrace with his selfish antics...I had enough!"
Frank Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:54am EST"I have to admit I am stunned clearly the Bengals are desperate. We get a 4 and 5 for D-Rob and only a 4 for Vilma. Way to go Tangini this is the best trade they have made yet. 2 picks plus at least 8 million in cap savings. GREAT JOB TANGINI! now trade Coles and we will have more than enough money to get Moss and watch Clemens go to the pro bowl next year throwing 60 yard missles to Moss."
Ira Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:10pm EST"Drew and Frank, We'll see how the summer goes but right now i say Chad beats out Clemens in camp. The only problem with having both on the roster will be with the fans debating it and the media. It will not affect the team at all. Chad is too much of a pro and leader to ever let that happen. Hope they get the D.Woody deal done today and wait for Pace's answer. Sign Wilson he could play both C and S "
Drew Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:34pm EST"I see your point Frank. I do fear a crying out for Chad if Kellen struggles. I would hate to see KC get hurt and we go to a below avg backup and we fall on our faces though......Enough with the Mcfadden talk. If he falls to us at 6 we are trading this pick. Just another scare if we do not draft Gholsten does anyone fear NE will take him and he will become the next W. Mcginest??"
Rich Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:58pm EST"So what in the world does a "firm pick in the 2008 draft" mean? I seriously question this deal for Vilma - it sounds like the Jets did not get enough in return."
Randy Lange Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:06pm EST"Rich, see my response to George P from Saturday at 3:32 p.m. following this Radar entry."
Frank Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:05pm EST"Ira an open competition is pointless. Chad can complete 80% of his passes it doesn't matter. Playing real games is what matters and Clemens found a way to win despite statistics. Besides here is a bigger problem the playbook needs to be changed Clemens brings more to the table and will excel in a verticle and spread offense vs. Chad's dink and dunk offense. Neither can thrive in the others game."
Frank Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:10pm EST"Besides if we trade Chad we will gain more picks and we will be in a position to pick another quality QB. Besides I guarantee after the draft there will be veteran QB's available to pick up as insurance. Tampa has 5 on their roster including Plummer who will never come back maybe we can get a crack at Chris Simms I bet he will be available later on. Trade Chad and Coles and sign Moss."
Frank Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:15pm EST"Drew I like Gohlston too but if we sign Pace we are not picking him. I said this weeks ago we are going to trade the pick to Jones for his 2 first rounders and dare I say Marion Barber so he can take McFadden. This would be the absolute best case scenerio. Ira one more thing I agree Chad is a great guy and the consumate pro he is not the one that will cause problems. Coles will be the troublemaker"
Ira Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:29pm EST"Frank, Coles will not be a problem. Once they get done with their shopping they will tear up his deal and give him about a 4 year deal with the same 11 million guaranteed with some bonus $. Of course it will be back loaded and he will never see the last 2-3 years if he can't produce. They will not have another Kendall problem like last year. Once is enough."
Jason Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:42pm EST"M! O! S! S! Moss! Moss! Moss! Would look great in a Jets Jersey"
Tom Spicer Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 3:20pm EST"Drew, Gholston even if he gets picked by the Pats he will be a back up he plays OLB or DE he will not start over Thomas or Vrabel at OLB & Warren or Seymore at DE. You want a scare think about the Pat offense with Brady, Moss & Mcfadden IF HE IS THERE AT 6 & WE DONT TAKE HIM WE WILL REGRET IT FOR YEARS TO COME ! "
George P Said:
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 7:07pm EST"If any of you have read espn.com, the jets have signed woody and pace. Pace, we payed a little too much for but he should fit well into our system. However, the D-Rob trade didnt go through. Draft Run DMC!"
Ray Said:
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 3:56am EST"My thoughts on Gholston over McFadden. Gholston might turn into the next McGinest. But what if McFadden turns into the first McFadden as advertised? A mix of LT and Adrian Peterson. And worse yet, we let him go to NE....can anyone say Marino??!!!!"
Frank Said:
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 4:26pm EST"I hope we either pick up Gholston or if dorsey and cris long slip then maybe we will get lucky. Also if pennigton does bad in the first 4 games please dont wait until we lose many games"
Xavion Said:
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 8:47pm EST"OKay Many of you are misinformed. The only knockem dead move tangini deserves praise for is Faneca even still... I think thats kinda Pricey. As far as Jenkins... I say this was not a good move at all a 3rd and 5th rnd pick? The panthers just punked us. We gave up 2 picks the 3rd rd should have been enough..."
Xavion Said:
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 8:59pm EST"I live in Charlotte NC and see the Panthers play every week Jenkins is not as talented as he was & is lazy. Sure he had some good games But thats on a line with Julius Peppers drawing 2X teams and mike rucker not to mention they had brentson Buckner. Then in back to back seasons we was taken out in the first game. Im extremely weary of this move. Drob out performed him last year in a 34 vs his 43"
xavion Said:
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 9:02pm EST"The Bills picked up Stroud whom I think would have been better for us than KRis Jenkins I hope I live to eat my words but I dont see it happening We overpaid for Jenkins. "
Ray Said:
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 3:33am EST"Xavion, you are the one who appears to be misinformed. You don't like the trade for Jenkins, ok time will tell, but who would we have drafted in the 5th round that would have been worth more of a gamble than Jenkins? And Faneca has been the only good move? So Pace and Woody don't improve our team? You could argue Olivea might have been better than Woody, but there is a history with Mangini."
Ray Said:
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 3:37am EST"So there is a comfort level there. And Pace just excelled when they changed to the 3-4 in AZ. So how are those not good moves. After last year the only bad moves by Tangini would have been no moves, even if these moves don't work out, I applaud them for being pro active in the market and trying to improve out team."
Xavion Said:
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 1:06pm EST"Ray I did'nt say faneca was the only good move I said teh only knockem dead move I applaud the pick up of pace i dont think he should have recvd as much money as he did and I too would prefer Olivea over Woody. But that doesnt change the fact taht we could have kept an extra pick 3rd rnd pick should have been enough. I am familiar with the panthers and all chlt is talking about how happy they are"
Ray Said:
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 2:02pm EST"I understand your feelings on Jenkins, but people can laugh all they want down there, lets see how he does first. And I did a little research. The last two years Stroud has played in 9 and 11 games respectively, while Jenkins has been in all 32, so I am guessing the Jets didn't want to take a chance on a guy who has had injury problems of late."
