06/06 — James Dearth has made a fine career out of going unnoticed, making one unerring long snap after another to the Jets' punter and placement holder, which for the past two seasons has been Ben Graham.
But today Dearth makes the headlines ... as the Green & White player on the Cartus fivesome that took home the top prize at Tuesday's New York Jets Charity Golf Classic.
Dearth and the winning foursome of Paul Laterra, Anthony Cristaudo, John Arcario and Mark Schildwachter came home with a 55 in the scramble event, during which all players play their shots from the group's best previous shot. The Dearth team thus passed the Nick Mangold group, which held the lead at the midway point.
Cartus is part of Realogy Corp., the largest real estate company in the country, based in Parsippany, N.J., which is assisting with the Jets' corporate relocation to Florham Park.
For all you Dearth fans, here is an unofficial chart of James' long-snapping efficiency since he won the job in 2001. Although he's had just a few snaps that didn't go exactly where he wanted, he hasn't been charged with any bad snaps in his NFL career. (In those six NFL seasons, there have been 22 bad snaps charged to the snappers.) Extra credit if you can name the player to make the Jets' last long snap before Dearth. (Answer below.)

You never appreciate a LS until your team has a couple of bad snaps that cost you games. Dearth is money. His best catch was a big TD against the Bengals in 2001."
