File Under: Darrelle Revis, David Harris, All-Rookie, Patrick Willis
01/11 — I juimped the gun by a day with Thursday's Radar entry on Darrelle Revis and David Harris in this sense: I could have packaged that information with today's news that Revis and Harris were both named to the NFL All-Rookie team presented by the Professional Football Writers of America and Pro Football Weekly.
That makes it six Jets to gain All-Rookie recognition in the last three years and eight in the last five, and all eight are still on the roster.
Harris was named as an OLB on the All-Rookie defense, which apparently would line up in a 4-3 if it ever took the field as a unit. Patrick Willis, the San Francisco LB who gained Defensive Rookie of the Year status, is obviously respected greatly by the PFW/PFWA electorate, since he was named MLB not just on the rookie team but on the All-NFL team as well.
To make the climb to All-Pro in the future, Revis will have to take aim at New England's Asante Samuel and San Diego's Antonio Cromartie, the All-Pro corners on the team voted by the members of the PFWA and the editors at PFW.
Harris will have to make some room among the Patriots' Mike Vrabel, the Cowboys' DeMarcus Ware and Willis, the three All-Pro backers, and keep an eye on the Panthers' Jon Beason, the other All-Rookie LB.
No Jets were named to that all-league team. The Associated Press also selects an All-NFL team and those two teams combined form the league's official All-Pro team from year to year.
Here are the Jets' All-Rookie players for the past 10 seasons:
| Season | Jets All-Rookie Players |
| 1998 | T Jason Fabini |
| 1999 | G Randy Thomas |
| 2000 | TE Anthony Becht |
| 2001-02 | None |
| 2003 | DT Dewayne Robertson |
| 2004 | LB Jonathan Vilma |
| 2005 | S Kerry Rhodes, K Mike Nugent |
| 2006 | T D'Brickashaw Ferguson, C Nick Mangold |
| 2007 | CB Darrelle Revis, LB David Harris |

Fri, January 11, 2008 - 8:22pm EDT"Good to see Revis & Harris get the recognition they deserve. They both had one heck of a rookie campaign. Very disappointed that Rhodes got the Pro-Bowl snub. How could Troy Polamalu after missing 5 games and putting up marginal stats at best get the vote? Rhodes and Harris should have both made the team. Great draft by Mangini and company. Just hope they can do the same thing this year. "

Fri, January 11, 2008 - 8:29pm EDT"Don't understand how Brick got the same recognition Harris, Revis, Rhodes, Vilma got! Brick has been a complete Bust and Mangini really needs to address LT. Brick gave up 10 sacks his rookie season and gave up 15 this year. Mangini thinks he's making progress, but the STATS don't lie and he's not improving. Either trade him or move him to RT-he's getting our QB's killed!"

Sat, January 12, 2008 - 10:40am EDT"Great draft this yr considering we had few picks.I agree w/ Jeremy, Brick has been a bust.Need strong guy to protect QB's blind side and face the best DL men on opposing teams.Jets also need to build through free agency if they are going to make a quantum leap to playoffs. OL and DL should be main focus. If available draft one of the Long boys. Go Jets! "

Sat, January 12, 2008 - 10:59am EDT"Just what I have been saying all year long. The talent especially on the defensive side of the ball is there. Players were mis-used and the system was wrong. The biggest difference after the break was in the aggressive play calling and scheme changes which everyone was screaming for earlier in the year. It's a serious indictment of a coaching staff when potential is wasted and not maximized."
Frank Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 11:05am EDT"Note to Mangini. First you better lighten up your training camp the slow starts are the result of your grueling schedule and the players are tired at the start of the season. Second, trust your players. Especially on defense stay aggressive on the play calling and give them some flexibility to showcase their talents which leads to making it more fun for the players and acheive their potential."
Ira Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 11:54am EDT"Wayne and Jeremy, Yes Brick had a disappointing season. I still fell a lot of it had to do with him not having Kendall or another quality LG next to him. If he continues to struggle next year then he will be considered a bad pick for being taken at the #4 spot. Lets see what he does with a new OL coach and new LG."
Peter Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 1:28pm EDT"I agree with Frank that the coaching staff needs to be aggressive from Game 1. I don't think the training camp makes the player tired or they would be doing worse as the season goes along, not better. The D needs one more playmaker and better coaching, and the O needs a better line and the coaches need to use the weapons we have better, whether it's Chad or Kellen throwing the ball. "

Drew Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 2:08pm EDT"Frank?? I do not think the players are tired at the begining of the season and all of a sudden play well and are not tired after a bye??. There are plenty of winning coaches that press players hard in camp and then excel during the season. Plus, I thought Manigni didnt hammer them as much in this camp. I do agree there is a trust problem with some of guys and playcalling. That has got to get fixed"
Harvlis Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 2:45pm EDT"I agree with Frank. Defense has players but, were coached poorly. They should pick up Albert Haynesworth from the Titans, go to a four three. I disagree with Wayne. Brick will be fine. He didn't have a good guard next to him, all year. He will bulk up and we will pick up a player for left guard -- then watch the Brick Man. Pick up Faneca from the Steelers. Chad at QB - he's a winner."
Ira Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 7:33pm EDT"Imagine if T. Jones was running behind the o-line of the Packers. He would run for 1500 plus per season. Thats the #1 priority this year."
Frank Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 8:08pm EDT"Well boys it's official Chad Johnson wants out and just like I suggested several weeks ago the Jets need to make a bold move ala Randy Moss and the Pats and go after him. Vilma is perfect trade bait. HEY TANGINI GOT GET JOHNSON NOW!...show the fans you are serious about winning and putting an exciting team on the field we are to watch."
cactus hugger Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 9:48pm EDT"We should address OL needs via free agency, experience is worth the bucks. I recommend CB Antoine Cason from Arizona. With Darrelle Revis we would have the best names for CB duo ever. Cason won the Jim Thorpe Award, for which Revis was a finalist. The Jets would have the #1 pass D with the depth Cason would add. Glad to see CP will be in the mix next year. Let's get some tall WRs and fix the line"
Ablity Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 11:31pm EDT"yes the jets had good draft in the past but just the draft alone will not get us where we need to be next year. but i have to gave it to Revis, i have to say at the begaining of the season i didn't like him and i was mad and coundn't see why he was drafted but as the season went he grew like rookies are suppose to and i liked that and harris is just a beast young and fast LB are beast period. "
Ablity Said:
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 11:50pm EDT"even with the best team in world we will not be good with the playbook that we had, it look like a collage playbook with no big pass plays. we to get a WR in the second round or 3nd and go into a for wide-out set and tell clemon work the offense with LC, cotchery, a rookie WR and the good chris baker and that will open up the RUN GAME for TJ. we shouldn't draft another young OL man we should trade"
MATTY D Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 4:54am EDT"The Jets need to let ((51) go, put (10) back in the game, and deepen the wideout position so Chad has someone to throw to. We should trade down in the first round, find the best value in the later rounds, lower the cap, and sign as many free agents as possible. McFadden is the only thing worth taking for us at #6 otherwise. Get Rice or Hart at the RB position if possible if not McFadden."
Frank Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 9:13am EDT"Ah Drew do you listen to yourself? The team is fresh after the break because for the first time in several months they have off. Secondly after the break the players started playing for themselves not the coaching staff. I know this is hard for you but I have been in this type of environment and it does not work. Mangini needs to lighten up without changing his policies he is too rigid...."
Frank Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 9:19am EDT"Mangini can keep his "core values" and maintain the standards he has set however he needs to be flexible in dealing with issues because nothing is absolute expecially when you manage a large group of people. If he makes the same mistakes he made this year he will not be a head coach for long. Look at Belichick he made mistakes in Cleveland corrected them in New England yet he is still the same."
Ira Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 10:24am EDT"Randy, It was real hard watching Bigby making plays all over the field yesterday knowing the Jets had him in camp in 05. And what should have been if the Jets had drafted Favre."
Ira Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 11:07am EDT"Everybody please enough about Haynesworth. Not the type of player for the Jets plus the Titans will slap him with the franchise tag anyway."
Drew Said:
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 6:52pm EDT"Frank..You once again have me going crazy. You cannot compare any environment to an NFL team. I dont care what you do. Mangini knows better than the both of us..Trust me!! Plus explain to me how elite NFL players get "tired" from Mangini's camp and then play well after an extra 4 days rest?? I can tell you're a smart fan but most of your posts prove otherwise. Remember your silly rants in 2008."
Frank Said:
Mon, January 14, 2008 - 10:53am EDT"Drew you crack me up. Read my post I said the players came back refreshed and played for themselves versus being exhausted both physically and mentally at the beginning of the season...listen to the players Drew it's their own words you need to be able to read between the lines and stop spouting conventional wisdom. Contrary to what you think a great coach is a master psychologist and motivator..."

Tue, January 15, 2008 - 2:02pm EDT"If you watched the games this past weekend, then it was most obvious that you build the offense and the defense from the line. To me, thats the most pressing issue for the jets. Need pass rusher, and we need to improve the OL. "

Wed, January 16, 2008 - 12:42pm EDT"i like revis, it took me a while to get sold on harris hope fully in this coming draft we can get a skill player that will be on the all-rookie team. Maybe that 6'7 WR from Idiana"

Sun, January 20, 2008 - 2:51pm EDT"Here it is, a survey on Chad Pennington. Who here thinks he can win next year after a 1-8 disgusting performance in 07 that drove us to our backup? The whole stadium applauded when he supposedly got hurt. I think the facts are simple. Along with the OC, it was like we were playing lawyer ball out there, I never saw a gut call, always settle for a field goal, even on 4th and 1 or losing bad."
