File Under: NFL Europa, Blake Costanzo, Zarnell Fitch, Jamie Thompson, Week 8
06/05 — Since we inundated you last week with stories on the four Jets playing across the pond in NFL Europa, it's only fair to update you on how they fared in their Week 8 games.
Two Jets defenders faced off against each other in the Rhein Fire's 41-38 win over the Amsterdam Admirals. S Jamie Thompson made a game-high nine tackles (eight solo) for the Admirals. For the Fire, LB Blake Costanzo was held to two tackles on defense but added two more special teams takedowns.
And the Frankfurt Galaxy, which has two Green & White players, came back to edge Berlin, 25-22, and take sole position of first place at 6-2 with two games left in the season. DT Zarnell Fitch didn't start but played a key role in the win with five tackles and three pass breakups, including a fourth-quarter batdown on third-and-11 that led to a punt and the Galaxy's go-ahead TD drive.
Frankfurt right guard Matt McChesney missed his first start of the season due to injury, although he did play in the win. A measure of McChesney's value may lie in the rushing numbers. The Galaxy had been averaging 122.4 yards per game and a league-leading 4.6 yards per rush. But at Berlin they were held to 33 yards on 11 carries, with 22 of those yards coming on two scrambles by QB J.T. O'Sullivan.

He has to be a no brainer for making the team. Am I correct in this assessment? I don’t think we have anyone on our current Jets roster that is as big and athletic as Fitch."

Thompson and Fitch both have a real shot to make the team this year. I just hope the grind from the NFLE will not wear them down.Randy, when does the NFLE end ? "
