12/19 — Say what you want about Adrien Clarke, but even when he's sitting in front of his locker, he's a standup guy.
My good friend Tom Rock from Newsday had a tough question and had to pose it. He asked Clarke during today's media session to revisit the heavy pressure the Jets' left guard allowed on the second offensive play to New England's Richard Seymour on Sunday, which resulted in Eugene Wilson's interception-return TD and Kellen Clemens' rib injury.
"I really don't know what it is that I can say," Clarke told Rock and several other reporters. "You saw it. It's not a great feeling, if that's what you're asking."
"When you can see something like that, it doesn't feel good, it doesn't feel good at all."
Clarke was asked if he talked with Clemens about the play.
"When you're an offensive lineman," he began, "one of the things you pride yourself on is making sure your quarterback doesn't get touched and making sure you're opening up holes. When that doesn't happen, you feel terrible.
"When I saw him, I told him, 'My bad,' I apologized. There's no other way of putting it. I can sit down and take what you guys might say about it, but the actual feeling, knowing what happened, it's 10 times worse than that."
And when AC offered his apologies, what did KC say?
"He just told me, 'You've got a whole game in front of you, so don't worry about it. Just keep on making up for it on all the other plays,' " Clarke said. "He had a great attitude about it."
Clarke needs a similar attitude about this week of practice because it will likely be him and Will Montgomery at LG again, and Sunday's assignment in Nashville, Tenn., will be trying to hold Titans DRT Albert Haynesworth at bay.
"He embarrasses people. He's a great player," Clarke said, shrugging off the prospect of sleepless nights ahead leading up to this game. "That's what comes with the territory. You just try to prepare yourself the best way that you can, just try and put your best foot forward and go from there."
Many Green & White fans are rooting for Adrien Clarke to do just that.
Speaking of Quarterbacks
Head coach Eric Mangini did not designate his starter for Tennessee, stating at his late-morning news conference of the decision: "It's really health-related. We have to see where Kellen is, what he can do in terms of practice throughout the course of the week and where he is at the end of the week with his ability to function effectively."
We'll have more after practice in a short while.

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 3:10pm EST"Here's the story with our entire offensive line sans Mangold... They Stink The End!! To quote my boy Tony Realli. Give Clemens more than a half a second and he will find somebody. Give Thomas Jones a hole and he will gain more than 19 yards instead of looking like hes on a treadmill when he hits the line of scrimmage. "

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 3:57pm EST"Randy, was it ever asked of K rhodes what him and belichek were talking about right after the game ,curious if bill is trying to lure rhodes away ,even after is comments about kerry in beginning of the season where he thought he was to high on best overall player list ,front office has got lock this guy up before he gets away "
Sad Lineman Said:
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 4:00pm EST"Let Clarke feel bad for about 5 min. He needs to channel what happened and use it as motivation to not let Haynesworth do it to whoever is at QB this weekend. Maybe something like this is what the O-line needed to motivate them a little bit. They need something to light a fire under them to do something!!!!"
Russell Said:
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 4:31pm EST"Hicks and A.Jones released, may I suggest DB Ventrone and DL Thomas from the New England practice squad. What ever happened to Matt McChesney, I liked him and I thought the Jets were converting him into an offensive guard. Little trade rumor: LB Vilma to Detroit for WR Roy Williams, depending both guys can pass physicals. Williams is a 6'3" receiver. One more guy to get NT Fitch off Ravens PS"
Frank Said:
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 5:26pm EST"Huh? He is not on the receiving end of the punishment. I really feel for both Chad and Kellen especially Kellen who seems to be getting drilled or under pressure every play. When he has time he makes great throws. This is not AC's fault but he is not a starting guard in the NFL. This is Mangini's fault and shows he can not evaluate talent. This O-line is the worst in the league."
TonyR Said:
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 5:49pm EST" I'm not sure what must have been worse for Clemens, some guy running at him unabated, nearly crushing his ribs and causing an int, or the guy who let it happen saying 'my bad.'"
Jetsfandan Said:
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 1:31am EST"Randy, do you think OL is a very high priority going into the offseason? I mean, if you ask me we absolutely need upgrades at LG and RT. Clarke is horrible, and Clement, despite his size, gets pushed around a lot. I think we pull a Buffalo and sign 2 key free agents when free agency begins. I would love to get Stacey Andrews, who we brought in last year as a RFA. He is a player. "
Row Said:
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 2:10am EST"No one is saying anything to Winston Justice who gave up 6 sacks to Osi. This was one play, and in my opinion is not newsworthy. I have been critical of the media for a reason. I am sure a bunch of questions will make things better. We have a poor O line, everyone knows that. What we can do is use our weapons. Someone ask a noteworthy question. Ask something about the league's worst offense! (IMO)"
Vaughn Said:
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 2:35am EST"Good move by Mangini, it's been clear all year that the line has needed help at guard, especially during that Dallas game with the line middle of the line just completely collapsing. Maybe this team will consider investing in a guard after seeing how valuable Kendall would have been this season. Unfortunately it took an unblocked DT landing on our QB to realize the value off an offensive line. "
Joe Willie Said:
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 2:28pm EST"Kareem McKenzie, Randy Thomas, Kevin Mawae, Pete Kendal are performing at a high level for other teams after being banished by this front office. Why? Look at our o-line now compared to these names. This is the true disgrace behind this team's utter failure. The FO wants good (quiet) soldiers instead of great players."
james sollazzo Said:
Thu, December 20, 2007 - 4:10pm EST"Hey randy, So much talk about the offensive line. Here are two names to remember when free agency kicks off in march. Stacy andrews and maurice williams. Both can play guard and tackle. Both are the sixth linemen for their respective teams so they will probably be unrestricted free agents. They can fill the holes we have at left guard and right tackle. What are you hearing about the o-line?"
