File Under: Radar, Jesse Pellot-Rosa, Sumo wrestler, soccer goalies, comments

05/21 — You may have noticed that we've finished all our testing of the Radar, which was up and running for the NFL Draft, and that now your comments are being posted beneath the blog you're commenting on.

It's an exciting time for all of us here at newyorkjets.com, to not only get your remarks but to make them available to your fellow fans.

I'll still put together a blog every once in a while on some of the most interesting comments we get. For instance, two remarks that I haven't posted involve the cross-training tendency that general manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Eric Mangini have shown in bringing players to minicamp.

Howard Tish, for example, suggested for that large 3-4 nose tackle, why not bring in a wrestler? But not just any heavyweight champions like Tommy Rowlands and Cole Konrad — a Sumo wrestler. Anyone have Akebono's cell number?

And an unsigned note suggested soccer goalies as possible DBs or WRs. "Great hands, used to catching in traffic, comparable build, quick off the line. What do you think?"

I don't know what to think. I wouldn't have brought in Rowlands, Konrad or basketball player Jesse Pellot-Rosa, not because they're not top-notch athletes but because they haven't played football in a while. But Eric and Mike think outside the box, so why not take a look at these intriguing guys?

Pellot-Rosa was even signed to a free agent contract after minicamp, in part because of his size/speed/hands combination and in part because he came to the Jets already with core Jet values.

"I've got one foot in the door right now, but I've just got to keep working hard," he told me at the Jets-Giants rookie bowling event this week. "I can't get satisfied. There's a long road ahead. I just have to stay focused."

Back to your comments. We want you to enjoy the opportunity to interact with me and your Green & White compatriots, but just keep in mind a few things as you're contacting us.

Please, no profanity, name-calling, harassing language, ad hominem attacks, personal advertisements or commercial solicitation, etc. If your comment contains any of the above, we won't be able to post any part of the comment.

And because we want you to express yourself without our intervention, why not read your comment over for spelling, punctuation, missing words and the like? After all, your (screen) name will be on the comment for eternity.

Finally, you are free to ask questions in your comments. If we can answer them, we will, but if we can't answer them, we won't.

"What's a hominem? Sounds hostile like flesh burrowing beetle. Are you sure we can't attack it like we do fire ants?"

"Great idea! Sumo wrestler for NT. Hey the Japanese have broken into American Baseball why not American Football. "The average size of sumo wrestlers in the top makuuchi division is 153 kilograms (337 lbs.) and 185 centimeters (6')". Also, they use great hand technique and work in a small area.:)"

"Herman Edwards is the worst coach of this century! I have watched many bad calls in last 35 years but no body can top Herman's calls in this game. He just gave away potential winning game to Raiders. You are NO good. You are FIRED! 11/25/2007"
