09/30 — The Jets again bog down just across midfield, and Ben Graham's second drop punt of the game doesn't look as good as the first, looking to be a short kick — and there's no wind to speak of in Orchard Park today. But it's so short that Roscoe Parrish can't run up and get to the ball, which takes a pro-Jets hop and roll before being downed at the Buffalo 3.
The defense is mixing things up, alternating 4-3 with 3-4 looks, blitzing, but the Bills are making plays. Parrish spins away from David Barrett for a 7-yard reception on third-and-3, then Marshawn Lynch flows through the right side of the Jets' line for an 11-yard run to the Buff 40.
And rookie QB Trent Edwards, showing veteran accuracy, threads a skinny post to Josh Reed past, again, Barrett for a first down at the Jets 30. But from there the Jets stiffen with a Shaun Ellis sack, a Darrelle Revis breakup on a deep comeback to Reed — Reed and the Buffalo fans weren't happy that no interference was called — and Anthony "A-Train" Thomas' juggled and dropped screen pass.
Brian Moorman's punt sets the Jets up at their 14 with 6:39 left in this scoreless battle. The Jets could really use an offensive spark to get this game off its leisurely pace, which, the longer it goes on, favors the home team.
The Jets have 15 yards of offense and are backed up at their 12, third-and-12. The answer: Pennington hands off to Thomas Jones, who does a remarkable job of cutting and darting through the line to the second level for exactly 12 yards and a first down.
But offensive adversity continues for the Green & White. TE Joe Kowalewski is nailed for clipping, pushing the Jets back to their 12 again. And Pennington can gain only 14 yards on three passes to Jerricho Cotchery (two completions, Jabari Greer PD on the deep out-route). Graham punts again, and although he hits it well (53 yards with 4.9 hang time), Parrish gets off a 12-yard return and the Bills start out at their 33.
The last time the Jets and Bills were scoreless at halftime was in 1974, and the only time they were scoreless at the half at Buffalo was 1966, before Ralph Wilson Stadium was a gleam in Ralph Wilson's eye.
Trent Edwards threatens to make all this moot with a 27-yard pass to Josh Reed to the Jets 38. But then Edwards makes a mistake by underthrowing Lee Evans in the end zone, with Andre Dyson making the athletic pick. Now the danger to the scoreless half is the Jets' two-minute drill — they have 1:45 to put points on the board.
A Pennington pass to Cotchery gets the first first down of the drive, then two hookups with Leon Washington gets the next. Timeout No. 1 with 57 seconds to go, then an inside handoff to Washington and a toss to No. 29 moves the ball to the Buffalo 47. Timeout No. 2 with 33 seconds left.
The momentum is slwoed by D'Brickashaw Ferguson's holding penalty against Aaron Schobel, but Laveranues Coles, quiet most of the half, gets another forceout call on a deep out at the Bills 39. Then a Cotchery catch and then a Marino special — a fake spike that only Pennington and Coles seemed to know about. Coles plucked the ball away from S Jim Leonhard at the 19 and the Jets called their third timeout. With one second left.
All of it is for naught, though, as Mike Nugent's streak of FG successes under 50 yards ends at 23 in a row (26 including the January playoff game) when his 37-yarder from the left hash hits the right upright and bounces away. It's scoreless.

Lovie Smith told the media how crappy they played this past Sunday, when is Mangini going to admit his team stinks and stop bringing up positives that they had during the game. A loss is a loss. He seemed more concerned about their practice week than the actual game. Get Parcells back and give him part ownership, then we'll see championship teams."

Tue, October 2, 2007 - 10:15am EDT"Crotchery said, that Pennington's accuracy is shocking? It's shocking he can't throw 25 yard passes. Any college quarterback can throw 5 and 7 yard passes with excellent accuracy Give me a break. It is time for Sutton and Tannebaum to get fired, and Clemens to start this Sunday on a regular basis. Pennington evidently is still having shoulder problems. He's finished! "
