File Under: Chad Pennington, Roger Goodell, Thomas Jones, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, injury report

09/05 — Patriots coach Bill Belichick told Jets reporters today when asked about Randy Moss' status for Sunday: "We'll follow the rules of the NFL injury report like we always do."

Which brings us to today's first I-report of the season for both the Jets and Patriots. You may have heard that Commissioner Goodell's NFL will be doing reports differently this year and that is indeed the case. For the previous several seasons, teams were required to put a status on an injured player (probable, questionable, doubtful, out) and indicate whether the player participated in any 11-on-11 drills.

This year the status category (except for "out") has been eliminated on Wednesdays and Thursdays and what remains is four classifications based only on the player's involvement in that day's practice. Here's how it shakes out for the Jets and Patriots today:

Full Participation in Practice

Jets: TE Joe Kowalewski (finger), QB Chad Pennington (pelvis), DL Dewayne Robertson (knee), WR Chansi Stuckey (knee), FB Stacy Tutt (foot).

Patriots: QB Tom Brady (right shoulder)

Limited Participation in Practice

Jets: CB Andre Dyson (foot), RB Thomas Jones (calf), CB Justin Miller (thigh), OL Brandon Moore (shoulder), S Eric Smith (thigh)

Patriots: S Rashad Baker (hand), TE Dave Thomas (foot), DL Mike Wright (knee)

The two other categories are "Did Not Participate in Practice" and, as mentioned above, "Out." Neither team had any players in either category.

"For Hollywood: generally, in a 3-4 you rush the three down lineman (2 DE's and 1 NT) and whoever else you want, mixing it up so the pass rush is unpredictable and you never know who's coming and who drops into coverage. Front four is a term used exclusively for the down lineman in a 4-3."

"What is wrong with chad pennington? I saw he was on the injury list. Will he be able to play against new england? I hope he will. The Jets need him. Can"t put enough emphasis on that. Just look what happened the last time he was hurt."

"I think the Jets defense is terrible. Brady or no Brady. They blitzed and got beat and when they did'nt blitz they they got beat. Chad Pennington had a decent year last season but I think his starting appearances should be reevaluated. I've been a Jet fan since Al Dorow & Joe Namath QB'D the Jets."
