08/30 — Normally we wouldn't go over the lineups, but this one is so different than it will be for any other game this year that it's worth it to review the starters. For the Jets defense, the line is Bobby Hamilton, Sione Pouha and Kimo von Oelhoffen, the LBs are Cody Spencer, rookie David Harris, Brad Kassell and David Bowens, and the secondary is rookie Darrelle Revis and Hank Poteat on the corners and Rashad Washington and Ray Ventrone at safety.
On Philadelphia's opening drive, Kassell makes a great pass drop to deflect A.J. Feeley's' seam pass to TE Brent Celek. But on the next play, third-and-7, WR Greg Lewis on a crossing pattern outruns Revis for a 20-yard completion.
Sione Pouha's second-down tackle is the centerpiece of a Green & White defensive stand, forcing the Eagles to settle for a David Akers 46-yard field goal try. Normally, that's no problem for Akers, but a low snap plus Drew Coleman's burst off the edge forces punter/holder Sav Rocca to pick up the snap and throw an incompletion. Jets hold.
For the Jets offense, Kellen Clemens starts at QB, with Danny Ware at RB, Brad Smith and Frisman Jackson at WRs, Joe Kowalewski alternating with Sean Ryan at TE, and a line from left to right of Adrian Jones, rookie Jacob Bender, Wade Smith, Adrien Clarke and Robert Turner.
The offense gets only one first down on a Clemens-to-Kowalewski dart, then Ben Graham punts. James Dearth's snap seems OK, a little to Graham's left, but goes through the punter's hands. Yet Graham saves it and gets off one of his drop punts with 4.8 hang time. Dearth is flagged for being ineligibly downfield, so the Birds start Drive No. 2 at their 22.
The Jets defense blows a great opportunity, third-and-25 fashioned on back-to-back sacks of Feeley by C.J. Mosley, when Feeley gets protection and launches a pass to a Jason Avant down the right sideline. Rashad Washington is late getting over and Avant falls out of bounds for a 31-yard gain.
The second defense's run stopping is not crisp on this drive as Hunt gets to the second level for 9 and 13 yards to the Jets 29.
Then Mosley does it again, bursting past C Nick Cole and taking Feeley down on his backside before he can let go of the pass. Fumble, recovered by Bowens. Eagles challenge that it's not a fumble but referee Gene Steratore says no dice, the ruling on the field stands.
And Mosley is officially on fire. He had a sack of Tim Hasselbeck with 3:40 remaining vs. the Giants, so his three sacks so far give him four sacks in a little more than a quarter's time. He's the main reason the Jets end this opening period scoreless with the Eagles rather than trailing.

The Hanes/Wadsworth experiements are done. Schlegel is toast. So is Kowalewski ... Pociask beat him out. I think Poteat is done. Just some guesses."

Nice recovery. That 3rd and 25 yd play remeinded me of the Eagles vs Packers playoff game. Just can't give those up."

I saw him pancake a couple of defensive linemen on separate plays. Again, this is not against first stringers, but it was still great work."
